Playing so far, and noticed the Automatons (Automa?) - The old maintenance droids that are basically struggling to keep things in order and developed sentience.
Why is this not a core race? Practically begging for it. Pure mechanical race would be good for the transition from pure biology (xenoplague) to the cyberneticists (paragon/assembly) - and would do for AoW what Synthetic Dawn did for Stellaris.
Synthesis focuses on networking people (borgish) it seems, and augmenting soldiers/hacking, so it wouldn't quite work. Secret tech could be something like Nanites, grey tempest type thing, focused on converting the world away from biomatter to hard synthetics. Either way, I'm sure whatever the devs would come up with would be pretty good.
