Commanding Drones

Hey everyone. I just purchased the game. I've got a few hours in now. Just wondering what happens to the drones from the rockets if I assign them to another controller? I guess firstly, if I don't assign them to say the drone hub will they pack up and leave with the rocket or do they stay behind? And then assign them to a new commander.

If they are assigned to a rocket that leaves they will be reassigned to another rocket or hub. i think it picks the nearest choice but i am not certain
