With would-be feudal vassals, the "Offer Vassalage" acceptance also factors in a -40 for high-tax contracts (which is itself not entirely helpful since you're much more likely to offer normal or low taxes), so I wonder if the x-showing logic is throwing in that -40 even though it doesn't factor in for clan vassals.
