I have been a long-time advocate for BATTLETECH Multi-player and take this new BATTLETECH Multi-player Subform an excellent sign that Paradox and HBS continue to value the future of BATTLETECH Multi-player gaming as well.

So to that end, what Ideas, Suggestions and Comments can we bring forward and discuss that just may spark further interest in BATTLETECH Multi-player, growing our Community and paving the way for more gamers to discover, enjoy and make the most of BATTLETECH Multi-player opportunities.

For me, I would like to see HBS and Paradox explore and develop the Solaris VII aspects of BATTLETECH Multi-player. Arena maps, different Match Victory Conditions, etc.

How about you?

Where would you like to see HBS and Paradox take BATTLETECH Multi-player?

The big one for me would be some sort of season rankings, something to work towards. At the moment I can grind random matchs all I like but there is no accomplishment or drive for me to do so.

Also stats page, Win/Loss, Kills, number of Mechs killed/total Cbill value, total C-bill value lost that sort of thing, just a running total.

possibly some sort of plaque or trophy in the captains cabin to mark tournament victorys. at least for the important hbs sanctioned turnaments that I would love to see hbs administer.

Just a few quick thoughts and comments on what already said:

1- Surrender option (as @Pewpew! said, the agree button isn't here), to avoid either people disconnecting once they feel like they've already lost (and therefore not counting towards a game played/won/lost) or having to grind the last few rounds even you know there is no way you can win (final minutes quite boring). That, or the option to eject, which will be the same.

2- Servers stability. I'm not an expert, so no idea why they're not working very well, but having to try 5 times to connect with a player and being disconnected after 30 minutes of game, not fun...

3- Ranking and stats (@Anaro Sunfire ). They can encourage some people, but if the high rankings get bonuses or so, this can also disencourage a lot of people to play anymore. I'm unsure about this point.

4- Coop mode, either 2v2 players (not sure about how doable technically this is), or 2 players against AI OpFor (again, not sure about technical doability). The second option could have a few levels of difficulty, either in tonnage, Cbills or number of 'Mechs (like, if players have 29M Cbills, AI will have 40M Cbills at easy, 90M at hard, work needed on numbers, though).

Edited: scratched the first point, eject is now an option after the 1.1 patch :) (yeah, ok, instead of pressing only once "surrender" you have to press "eject" as many times as 'Mechs you still have, but c'mon, it is possible to surrender and it shouldn't take long to eject 1 or 2 pilots)

Well not much on the tech side, as I haven't played enough to notice issues.

And not sure if these have been suggested before
  • I'd like to see multi battle options. For example(but not limited to)Each player picks 3 lances of mechs from a large value, and pits them against three other lances, then the score from all is taken into account.
  • Victory points/ mission type skirmishes. So not just smash each other missions, but transport, escort, assasinate and similar type missions with appropriate weighting.
  • Challenge missions. 1 mech v lance, and other variations, where the goal isn't necessarily to win.
  • More than 4 mechs aside :)
  • TANKS and other resources as an option to take.

The called shot ability is kinda cheesy in mp, as you can be winning a match and then a mech can use a called shot to core out one of your mechs right through the ct armor. Kinda low priority but not needed for a fun mp experience.

I'm not sure on this one.

I quite like Fury as it's something else you have to keep an eye on and be wary of. I feel like I've lost more games from winning positions by my OpFor using it than I've won myself from its effect, but that's probably just conformation bias on my part.

One thing I would like to know is the exact formula used to work out how Fury is generated. It seems almost random how quickly it increases. I've especially noticed this on the Solaris 1v1, where I've had quite a few Fury related conversations in game, where one of us has got it much earlier than the other when our mechs have had a similar level of damage done to them.

As for what I'd like to see, a random map selector in the lobby would be really nice and probably not too resource intensive to fit in.

EDIT: Reading this back it's not clear as to what I mean. What I would like is an option to select one of the current maps randomly, not a random map generator.

What about a dungeon master mode? Where you can select precisely what will be deployed on both sides, on which map (maybe even where)... Would be cool to also be able to determine mech damage etc. to be able to fight with mechs, which couldn't be repaired in time :)

I’d like a 1v1v1v1 set up.

Four players, one mech each.

All four enter, only one mech exits.

Bring any mech you like. Maybe you bring an atlas. And maybe the other three agree to take you out first before dealing with each other.

This game mode needs a specific map. An arena with four walls and screaming fans. No cover, no terrain effects. Just pure gladiatorial carnage

Generally having the option for more players than two would be interesting!

And how about on one map those four walls collapse in on you all more every round.

A 'random' map selection at setup would be awesome. Not knowing which map, perhaps more importantly which biome, adds another layer of complexity to lance building. Going Firestarter heavy might be unwise if there's a chance you'll end up on a polar map, for example.
In addition to that I wish the game picked at random which player got which starting deployment area, instead of the host always starting at location 1 and the 2nd player always getting location 2.
