Your doing a rescue mission, saving the artist from the planets religious police. you've cleared out the opposing force and you rock up to the bunker that the religious police are holding the blasphemous artist. Using the load speakers on your mech (I assume they have load speakers) you call for the release of the artist. And you hear a distant yell.
"No"
"What" you demand
Now using a megaphone, "What part of no don't you understand. Do I need to talk slower, GEEET STUUFFED.
Taken back a little, you reply. "Hay turkey brain don't you see the Battle Mech I'm in? if you don't send him out I will level the place."
"Yea that's going to work you MUPET, you what him alive don't you and levelling the place is your master plan? Piss off you moron, we have reinforcements coming within a day, and we are siting pretty in this bunker for at least a year, how long can you wait?"

If only you had a unit of marines on your ship? You could have escorted their APC to the bunker and they could put a bullet in the mouthy toad's head. Oh yea and rescue the artist that we've been paid to do. Gee what else could they have done? They could have fought off those pirates that boarded our ship and extorted us. They could have saved Gus and Mary when that death squad came after Gus when we where drinking in that dive bar. Dam, you could expand your business model.

INFANTRY makes Combined Arms even better. (But to be sure, Mechs and Armor are an entry on the Continuum of the Combined Arms.

Currently, BATTLETECH is a Big and Stompy Mech game.

I have come to appreciate that it is a conscious and for some members of a Development Studio, difficult decision to go from Big and Stompy to Bloody and Squishy... for some, just the connotation that their Mechs just stepped on and crushed to death an Infantryman would be... off-putting, to put it mildly.

Now for me I don’t mind in the lest. Hey, there are Tankers in the Scorpion I just DFA’ed right? What makes a Infantryman’s Death so much more objectionable than a Tankers? This is a WARGAME aight?

What really brought this into sharp relief for me was the release of URBAN WARFARE and Mitch’s double-downing on assurances that the entire city had been abandon. In other words that it was completely unpopulated, that no one was in any of those buildings, that no civilians would be harmed if we... “cleared a few Lanes of Fire.”

I hope at least some form of abstracted-Infantry are included in BATTLETECH 2.

Time and Mitch, will tell. : )

Prussian Havoc, I was thinking that the "Marines" would be separate stage in the game, the APC gets to the bunker and when you've cleared the opposing force, press the "Deploy Marines" Button, Loading screen and you have the marines clear the bunker in a turn based game. I would be looking at Fallout : Tactics for the scale of the characters and the weapon ranges. I would not have a turn limit but the amount of reinforcements the mechs would have to face would depend on how long that phase took, eg. 20 turns reinforcements show up, 40 turns heavy reinforcements show up.

You could all so have a marine action as random events, like fighting off pirates that board your ship.

“Marines?”

Is there a beach about? : )

Sure, Marines, Infantry... my Combined Arms OCD will be placated as long as there is a bit of abstracted “Foot” or “Mechanized” or “Jump” Troops in BATTLETECH 2. : ))
