It would be great if Paradox added another frontline option for armies called defense in depth or something, where the frontline ai puts troops not only on the border, but on provinces behind the border as well, so as to create a deeper line.

This could be unlocked by desperate defense and the mass assault doctrines, where you can have divisions defend multiple provinces in and not have to micro that much. It is a good counter tactic to encirclements.

I'm not sure how big each army size would be under a general, maybe have a 24 army sized general have the normal frontline while having another 24 army sized army partake in defense in depth.

Before anyone mentions the garrison order, it is close to this but that doesn't take into account:
1. The frontline
2. Garrison orders only guard cities or airports, not every single province in a state.
