Chapter X: Battle of Cordoba II (777)
E10 Battle of Cordoba II
Near Cordoba, year 927 since the Fall of Carthage

."In shā 'Allāh, my Sultan, we will survive this"- said smiling one of his most loyal men as he stood by his side with sword and shield on his hands.

- We have served at your side from the begining my Sultan, we fought against the noblest enemies and we have achieved victory with you, if we must die that is in the name of Allah and the Ummayad dynasty! - said another

- ALLAH UH AKBAR! - said a third as he charged the king of the savages, Abd-Al-Rahman made the same cry and charged with the rest against the enemy.

The feathered king shouted something in a strange language, behind him stood a huge purple banner, the phoeni war drums began to play.

Whistles crossed the air and three of the Sultan's men fell to the ground hit by numerous arrows. At that moment the man in the golden armor jumped and burst the head of one of the companions of Abd-Al-Rahman giving a precise blow with his strange club, the Sultan took a few steps back to see what had happened to his man , at that very moment another of his men tried to drive his sword into the side of the enemy king's armor, who uttered a terrifying scream after receiving the direct hit, at the same moment he gave a strong blow to the shoulder of the last man of Abd Al-Rahman, who upon falling to the ground said a few words that the Sultan could not understand. I was completely alone in a sea of enemies.

He took a few steps back.

The feathered King was walking towards him, dragging the tip of his mace across the floor, the sound intimidated Abd-Al-Rahman, he had tried to be brave, he had fought like never before in his life, and he had lost. Suddenly, the enemy stopped.

- Take one of the horses of your men, and flee- After saying this he extended his arm and the crowd opened a path so that the Sultan could flee, the noise of the drums was now accompanied by strange battlecries shouted by the savages-. We will see another day, and then you will accept my conditions for your surrender.

Abd-Al-Rahman felt humiliated.

He did not want to fight.

He did not want to give up

But he took the opportunity granted by his enemy and fled.

After all, Abd Al-Rahman thought, it was not the first time he fled, the last time his family lost everything in the Abbasids revolution, now it was a battle against the savages and he had survived another certain death but he still had his Sultanate ... now he only had to recover his forces to attack back these pesky Phoeni, maybe he could even add these formidable warriors from beyond the sea to his ranks and convert them to Islam.

Atanibáal did not expect Afulay to fail to protect the flank, but had designed several contingency plans, he had quickly attacked his enemy since he needed them to think that this attack was done in an savage and disorganized way, the Sultan had to believe that there was a possibility to stop the charge of the numberour force of Phoeni that attacked his capital, for that reason he ordered programmed retreats of some of his forces, Atanibáal had to meet face to face with the man who directed the greatest regional power and break his morale. The flank of Afulay was a sustainable loss, the capture of Cordoba was the prize after all.

It was a custom among the Phoeni of the colonies to break the morale of their opponents, so the battle was won not only on the battlefield, but also in the spirit of the enemy leaders, this caused a greater impact on the intentions than these peoples had in the future to resume the conflict.

After defeating the bulk of the forces of Sultan Abd-Al-Rahman, he ordered the siege of Cordoba, a city that soon fell, now that place would be the base of operations of the Phoeni until the Ummayad accepted the terms of their defeat.

Atanibáal knew that if they delayed more than they should with this campaign the plague could reach the bulk of their forces and cause a major catastrophe, but this campaign should be carried out as planned

And so the heart is torn out of hte Umayyads.
