Here I go again. My plan is to try for the fabled insane 3 mountains achievement (obtain WC with RyuKyu) and to do it in style, with a one tag and all provinces cored by Ryukyu (like my Savoy 1.7 one tag).

Also, i will use no exploits like mission abuse, monarch point creation by abusing buildings and idea group untraining, or turning myself into a protectorate to avoid coalitions. You got my word i won't, since i am very strict in obtaining the goals i set myself.

I define exploiting as using a mechanic in a way it was NOT designed for (so NOT WAD), to get unfair bonuses/advantages you otherwise you shouldn't be able to get.

Using diplomat trick, seizing a colony at 950+ population and toying with coalition mechanic aren't considered exploits to me. But thats up for debate ofcourse.

Also, the goal is to flip Ryukyu to catholic, and use the PU mechanic to help Ryukyu out. I will also divide this run into chapters, because my intention is to make screenshots from the beginning.

Impossible idea? We'll see.

As you can see on the dates of the screenshots after clicking on them: i make chapters the day i feel like i reached a point to end a chapter. This ain't gonna be an AAR that adds chapters now and then while the real game is already ended for weeks... It 'll be realtime, and i appreciate tips.

Chapter 1: Opening moves

I did NOT use the mission exploit DDRJAKE showed: I attack with +4 prestige ;)

Use your diplomats at start to improve relations with ayutthaya and khmer. On the first of each month recall your diplomats, and send them back to those two countries on the same day. Rinse repeat that till max, then improve relations with lan xang and dai viet. Before you start your first war, you should have enough relation with all 4 NOT to trigger coalition after first war declaration (no cb) and/or after first peace deal.

(my) standard opening move is getting military access from ayutthaya and Khmer. Champa fleet can't attack my 4 cogs then while i offload troops to ayutthaya. If you offload them THERE, champa usually sends 2 cogs with 2k troops to invade okinawa. You then only have to kill 2k or 3k with no leader in champa capital. Send your cog fleet back to okinawa and pray you reach it before champa fleet offloads troops into okinawa. If they do, restart and offload your troops shorter by, with the risk of champa not sending their general and army on the cogs. The fight versus champa will be lot harder if there are 4-5k troops in their capital.

Alternatively, you can chose a nation around Malacca as first war target. Study ledger and alliance patterns and decide who is weakest

Lan Xang is getting steamrolled by Lan Na and Ayutthaya. The battle plan is to occupy champa, and to take the animist province near Khmer and Dai Viet for myself, and to vassalise champa. Once i peaced out with champa, i started fabricating a claim on Lan Xang and Khmer. By vassalising Champa i also got reconquest cb on dai viet.

After one claim finished, i sold the animist province BACK to champa, and declared on Lan Xang, while they were still being steamrolled :p

Ayutthaya peaced out with Lan Xang and took a load of land. Lan Na is still at war with Lan Xang. I sieged capital with 2k troops, and placed 1k troops in a province lan na was travelling to.

Thats right, lan na sieged the provinces for ME. Dumb Ai. The leftover 1k troops walked across the remains of lan xang to cancel troop building in lan xang.
This way, i fully occupied Lan Xang and Lan na just had one province in lan xang sieged (that actually worked to my favour).

I vassalised LAN Xang, took one province for myself for making claims of. Since Lan Na was still at war with Lan Xang when i vassalised them, i got dragged into war with Lan na. Rest assured, that was my plan all along :D

One problem with that move was that Khmer allied Lan Na now, and Lan Na called them in. I bought out Khmer with offering them a province of Champa. I now had reconquest cb on Khmer, thats worth the offer ;)

Lan Na lost, since Pegu sieged back there provinces (pegu was with me in war vs lan na, because the war i got dragged into was Lan Na versus Pegu who had Lang Xang as ally. Pegu dishonored call when lan xang was attacked by me, and they re-allied after).

Lan Xang got all the provinces from Lan na except their capital.

I let all vassals rest a bit, and i did a very bold move o_O

Ayutthaya got weakened by fighting Lan Xang Rebels and i took the momentum to attack them

Dai Viet joined in. They outnumbered me two to one almost. Just to be clear, i did this because its really important to cascade agressiveness for the first 50 years when playing an OPM (like Ryukyu). Your position in 1500 usually tells a lot about whether or not a wc will work.

And yes, i didn't bother making allies. What did happen was Khmer starting a coalition versus Ayutthaya for their land grab from Lan Xang.

So, what i did, was joining that coalition and declare reconquest with lan xang CB on Ayutthaya, and KHmer joined in, because it became coalition war.

Thats right, starting coalition wars can be beneficial :p Still, it was a mad move really. but also an opportunity i couldn't resist. But oh boy that war was fun to plan and execute

My gamble paid off its first success. I stack wiped the main Ayutthaya army, mainly thanks to the khmer army. Note that my emperor became a 1-4-1-2 general, that helped a lot. Also, got a very good shock roll at the beginning (like an 8-1 roll or so).

An "all or nothing" battle ensued a month later. Dai Viet army was isolated and i attacked them with the lan xang army, and the khmer army. The battle was reinforced by Ayutthaya 1k troops that finished being made in various provinces. I just couldn't pass the opportunity to fight the army of dai viet without a lot of Ayutthaya help. Another good shock roll decided the battle early on already.
My morale went really low since all the armies were still recovering from the last battle, but i WON. Yi-haw :D

Time to get even bolder o_O

I was considering to buy dai viet out of the war but i decided against it. After the previous battle i chased the dai viet army with 1k(lan xang attached) and 1k (khmer attached) and wiped their army out, chasing it across dai viet a few times. Ayutthaya was late to show for that last battle, and i wiped Dai Viet right before Ayutthaya reinforced the battle. They attacked nevertheless(dumb ai), and i stack wiped them 15k to 5k... No good shock roll needed for that :)

Ayutthaya licked their wounds for a long while then, and their (new) army sieged a few of the lan xang provinces. That gave me time to siege a few of dai viet provinces myself. Lan Xang got rebels, and i tricked Ayutthaya to walk through that rebel province by placing 2k at the other side
They took the bait, and stupidly attacked the rebels

The screenshot shows my planned retaliation after Ayutthaya army lost morale and troops thanks to the rebels.

The peasants weakened their army enough for me to get a stack wipe. Yi-haw again. This was the coup-de-grace to Ayutthaya. They never recovered from that

Dai Viet gave Champa its high base tax core back, along with another province, in a seperate peace deal.

After some tiresome sieging and tracking armies being built and sending 1k troops here and there to stop it, the main armies finished sieging up Ayutthaya capital and some high base tax provinces, which allowed me to do a 100% peace deal on Ayutthaya. It gave all the land back to Lan Xang, and gave a claimed province to Lan Xang aswell. I cancelled the vassalasation of all Ayutthaya vassals.

This was the hardest micromanaging war i had to do in a loooong while. But it paid off so nicely :D

Maybe this screenshot explains why i never allied Khmer, and did coalition war with them. I had NO truce with Khmer, so i plain outright attacked them right after they helped me with the war versus Ayutthaya and Dai Viet. That was a real dirty move, but one has to take opportunities when they arise. Lan Na joined with Khmer.

The war was laughably easy. Khmer was exhausted after previous war, and my vassal army grew bigger and bigger. I annexed the capital of Lan Na and made claim off it for Pegu, and fed 100% worth of Khmer provinces to Champa.

Pegu declared war on Ayutthaya after i weakened them. I declared on Pegu myself from the claim made from Lan Na Capital. Ava joined in.

Ayutthaya occupied one Pegu province, i took capital and rest. I briefly toyed with the idea of vassalising Pegu while they were still at war with them, to be dragged into a war with Ayutthaya again. But i decided against it, since Ming and Arakan would join coalition after i made peace with Pegu.
So, i vassalised the remains of Pegu.

IMPORTANT TIP: Always check what nations will go in a coalition before you make a peace deal, thanks to that peace deal! I predicted Taunguu, Arakan and Ming would form a coalition, and thats exactly what happened.

Ming declared coalition war, backed by Taunguu and Arakan. Bring it on Ming!!!

By this time i had 100 army tradition, and spent 200 military power rolling a very Lucky 3-6-2-2 general. I trashed ming with him

Long story short: i provoked coalition war to get ticking warscore from battles won. And i won all battles, by mopping up siege stacks of ming. Arakan and Taunguu got occupied, and i let 1k stacks loot ming for years on end.

At the end of that war: Taunguu, one province from arakan (got fed to Pegu) and 500 gold was my prize, for a total gain of almost 1400 ducats. Consider Ming as your bank to rob in any Ryukyu run... I didn't take anything from Ming, to avoid them joining a coalition again after truce ends. Can't be TOO greedy.

Sukhotai (Ayutthaya former vassal) got out of truce with me and made coalition, joined by Dai Viet. I attacked Sukhotai and Dai Viet got called into war, without dai viet being able to call their own allies. Easy war ;)

Both Sukhotai and Dai Viet got reduced to OPM in that peace deal, and i fed my vassals even more. Ayutthaya truce was gone, so right after peacing out i attacked them. Dai Viet joined in AGAIN

It proved to be their downfall.

I fed the capital of dai viet to champa, and gave my vassals Champa, Lan Xang and Pegu all their claims in Ayutthaya. They make load of claims, since i set them as rival.

Remember, vassals only make load of claims if you set a nation close to them as rival.

Thats southeast Asia secured completly almost, within 40 years :D

Meanwhile, i took exploration idea group, and sent an explorer round cape good hope to explore the mediterrenean, north sea and baltic sea. During that process, i got a good 6-3-4 heir for my already good king (the Original emperor died relatively fast in 1467 or so, and a 3-6-1 heir became king).

Hope you liked this first chapter :)

B-but the game of thrones is clearly an exploit!!!11!

Seriously though, good luck atwix. Your Foix run was real fun to watch develop, so here's to hoping this follows in that trend.

A man. A plan. Three mountains. Ryukyu. Ok, it's not as catchy as the original...

You do realize that if you do this in 1.11 PUs will probably be nerfed, right? :)

Depending on how they do it, that's no bad thing. The PU mechanics are unclear without doing a fair bit of online research, implausible in that they bare very little resemblance to how dynastic politics worked, and disproportionately powerful.

How did you keep up manpower in the Ayutthaya war? This seems terrible taxing on manpower and finances - and you still had enough of both to immediately take on Khmer afterwards? Usually early game I severly lack men and money :(

But you're off to an amazing start. Good luck.

I doubt they will ever change the PU mechanic, since its complex enough already. I wonder if current Paradox team even understands their own PU mechanic completely :D

Seriously though, i still gotta get in a position to start game of thrones. My current plan is to integrate Pegu, start colonizing from there to africa, using exploration cb on ashanti and maybe kongo, and to vassalise of ceuta or some european nation with no allies.

Input with ideas on how to westernize faster then that are welcome. I think going for a colony in america might be faster... But you can't colonise america without dip tech 7 and full exploration unlocked, i reckon.

I might be trashed badly before i even westernize.. We'll see i guess.

Based on the previous situations with rebels and disasters, it's probably something they want to make clearer and perhaps more fun. PUs are arcane right now. I, for one, haven't even bothered to really learn about them in 1000 hours of playing, including a WC.

I don't think that PUs are a priority right now, but I doubt that the current state is the final one from the devs point of view. Of course, this is just my opinion and a "guesstimate" :)

This looks amazing! The commentary was certainly enjoyable. Still, world conquests get so tedious. I hope you're ready so soon after Foix.

Why not do this in video (youtube) format? I'd watch it...

guess i'm old skool. And sometimes images say more then an hour of boring gameplay on you tube..

You are right though. Youtube would be nice. But i got no intentions to become a live streamer.

To be honest, i TRIED to get interest in other games. That worked for a week or two.

EU4 is seriously addictive and just drove me back into its greedy hands. And i didn't even complain, since i just couldn't stop planning next campaigns during those two weeks.

Images are good way - you can just watch them to see a progress, not to use much time watching everything OP does.
Good luck! :)

Khmer and Lan Xang almost had full manpower at start of the first Ayutthaya war. Ayutthaya on the other had had 0 manpower and maybe army of 9k left. Also i try to avoid letting my own troops fight.

Following.

Also, i think you can colonize NA from its west side at tech lvl 3 (furthest siberian province -> aleut -> NA mainland), i'm quite certain that's how i did it in my Malacca game. Although i might have had the 20% range advisor at some point, so i'd check the exact distances anyway. In any case, i believe going through africa into SA or Europe is actually a little bit quicker and it lets you stay fighting your way instead making lots of colonies.

I second the question about manpower (and add a money question on top). I did try a Ryukyu start and these two issues basically made me hold for 3-5 years between each war, which in a WC is not really acceptable.

i never fought with my own troops almost, just 1k stacks with vassal armies attached. Hence low reinforcement costs. I also asked war reparations. Ryukyu can field about 4k troops at start. I Always attacked when enemy was weakened.

Trust me, i did no tricks to get ducats. Apart from looting Ming and robbing their money in a peace deal..

Looting and the ducats gained from occupying (hence looting) provinces paid for most of my expenses.

Regarding the westernizing: yeah i figure going through africa might be quicker.
