Since the new update came out on steam the game is un playable. The launcher opens then immediately crashes when i try to start new game or load old one. I tried to launch from the previous version but it didnt work. I disabled and unloaded all the mods, didnt work. I verified the files everything checked out. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game still doesn't work. Every other game I have installed currently on steam works. And when i install and play CK3 through xbox live app it works. But id rather play on steam since i own the game, have beebn enojying the GOT mod, and I have lots of hours in the game. Im attaching a image of the error message and the error log i downloaded from the launcher.

How did you disable mods? I just create a new playset without any in order to absolutely ensure that they are disabled. It might not disable mods otherwise.

I've been having the Same issue, but instead it doesnt pop up with an "error" instead after hitting Play it just crashes. Then it'll try (weird) to open again every 3 min, and at that point i cant stop it from trying to open. So my steam is constantly showing "So and so opened Ck3".

mine was going to the load screen and then crashing without an error message at first then after trying a few things it started crashing without getting to the load screen and just stays at the loader giving me the error message

Run ck3.exe directly from file explorer, to bypass the launcher. Do you see any Windows error then?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Aha! that is usually an antivirus app getting in the way. What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3-binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3-launcher folder)
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2023.6/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT ck3.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Then the game should run from Steam/our launcher, and enable all the DLCs.

just windows defender which ive always had and never stopped the game working over the last year. But I did what you said and now the launcher is giving me a steam runtime communication error, but the game launched and the mods were on. But it crashed again before the game loaded.

I don't know what is wrong on this machine to cause all these problems to you, it's not normal.

You didn't make ck3.exe run as Windows Admin did you? If so, undo that.

And what about steam.exe , is that running as Admin?

Alright, this had initially solved it. But, I'm running with the same issue where it'll continually open/close every 5 min without staying open for more than a couple seconds. Then an hour later it'll start loading into the Game Menu (not Launcher). I have uninstalled the game, delved into files and deleted most things then reverified and reinstalled. I'm not sure anymore Kings.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

What if you make a new Windows user on this machine and log int it with that? ANy better?
