Thus, most of the combatants ceased to duel
And turned their anger upon the architects of that cruel ritual.
None of them liked the idea that they were being used as nothing more than fuel…
They desired vengeance and fulfillment spiritual.
This situation was good for the temporal stranger -
Now, everyone who had been dueling was united by a common purpose…
The need to end the danger -
The danger to themselves and to their power - and so no one worked at cross-purposes…
The situation was, therefore, ideal for making powerful allies,
Which meant that enlightened Dristar began to achieve his goals almost by accident.
He didn’t even have to rely on lies,
Which might’ve made his new acquaintances more intransigent.
The ritual broke all at once,
But the power it took remained drained.
Therefore, many of the most powerful beings present went on hunts,
And enlightened Dristar joined them, allegedly to keep their anger contained.
In truth, he shared that rage
With those future allies,
And he saw in them an opportunity to escape his cage -
An opportunity that meant that he wouldn’t have to see how his realm dies.
As this new group searched, they made small talk,
But it didn’t truly mean anything.
All enlightened Dristar learned was that his companion could become a hawk
With a strange forewing.
This came back to sting them soon enough,
As their foe knew their quest and enjoyed living,
So they sent obstacles to make their path rough
And to divide them - make them unforgiving.
Naturally, this was also a complete coincidence that seemingly played right into Dristar’s hands,
Which made him suspicious.
Briefly, he wondered if one of his old allies had betrayed his alleged plans…
Noting that, if such a thing were to occur, his vengeance would be vicious.
