Standard behaviour for EU3 engine is to try the resolution from settings.txt first and if that doesn't work then try the desktop resolution. Maybe that doesn't work properly for high desktop resolutions.
No the problem was it tried to set the screen resolution to the desktop resolution when the two aren't compatible - on high DPI systems these aren't the same things for non-DPI aware programs.

When i zoom out the army sprites and fleets disappear rather quickly, that means at medium zoomlevel and there are no flags(like in EUIII) to show where my armies/fleets are.

Is this WAD or is it my gfx-card (nvidia Geforce 8800gts with latest drivers)?

What's your specs?

Since the game running slowly is being discussed, I'd like to insert myself into the discussion:

Macbook Pro (late 2008)
Core 2 Duo (2.4 GHz)
2 GB RAM
GeForce 9600M GT, 256 MB video memory
Win XP SP 3

All are above listed requirements except for the RAM, which meets requirements. However, the demo has displayed significant and at times annoying interface lag, and chugs along at a top speed of 1 day per second. This system runs EU3 perfectly fine; it's been a while since I tried HOI3, and I can't remember how that ran.

Several people have mentioned this; I think it's WAD (though I wish they would put flags or counters or something; it's annoying to have to zoom down to scan for enemy troops.

Haven't had time to play much yet but I can confirm it not working on 64-bit XP (works fine on 64-bit Windows 7 though). Also had a crash on exit on 32-bit XP.

Regarding performance it took about 5 minutes to run a year at top speed without autosaves on my Thinkpad X61 (2 GHz Core 2 Duo with Intel GMA X3100 1024x768 display). That's about the weakest system you'd want to try running the game on I think. Map scrolling was a bit sluggish but usable. As with HoI 3 though, performance would probably get worse later in the game.

I'm guessing you have some govermnent project or expense that uses small arms (army supplies for example) so it buys 2 when you get to trade with the market which are then given to your soldiers. to keep a stockpile you need to see how much is consumed each day and buy more than that.

Of the two of us - me and the computer - which is more competent and more fittingly designed to make that calculation?

IMHO the game ought to maintain a stockpile of two when directed to keep a stockpile of two <smiles politely>

HOI3 demo and EU H3T works without problems...

It's working hours now; patiently waiting for Paradox to come up with a solution... :eek:o

Actually not. Normally we start at 9, in 30 minutes. :)

We do have things to look at yes. The XP 64 crash is odd, since the game have undergone serious testing from a QA company using tons of configurations. I suspect that it might not crash on all XP 64 systems, but we'll try to find the issue.

We will also try to find the reasons for crashes not related to XP 64 of course.

For anyone with Windows 7 having trouble getting the thing to run in Windowed mode what you have to do is first run the game as an admin (by right clicking the icon for it and selecting "run as administrator") to let it generate the settings.txt file, then you need to run notepad also in admin mode and open the settings .txt and edit it as King described, but every time you want to play the game in windowed mode you need to run it as an admin.

I think it's the graphics card holding you back actually. At least 512 MB RAM is recommended, preferably more. You might get better performance if you try a lower resolution or windowed mode. Anti virus software can also get in the way, so if you have one of those, try to exclude the game directory from real-time scan.

Or install it outside of program files. Or just copy the demo folder to a place outside of program files, that works too.

I'm guessing you have some goverment project or expense that uses small arms (army supplies for example) so it buys 2 when you get to trade with the market which are then given to your soldiers. to keep a stockpile you need to see how much is consumed each day and buy more than that.

No no you didnt understand what i meant, i consume 0.7 and buy 2 so i have 1.3 in stockpile, but if a click at small arms again it says my buy order is set buy 0, even though it actually buys 2 as i previously set it.
