Now, I had set myself a goal: Get the "Good old times" achievement by incorporating Flanders and Brabant back into de jure Frisia. Now, despite some setbacks that worked rather well: As Flanders, I broke free from France, joined the HRE and conquered my way to Frisia.

Of course, I inevitably lost some counties to inheritances and had to re-conquer them, but all in all it worked: I had Frisia, I had Brabant and Flanders, and I sat back and watched the de jure drift start.

Then, something completely unexpected happened: About 7 years before Brabant had drifted into Frisia, the emperor suddenly declared some kind of war against Byzantium. I did not truly mind, that was far away and suddenly, bam, my realm was purple.

The emperor had pressed my claim against Byzantium (a weak claim I got when somebody closer in line to the throne died) and suddenly, Frisia was no longer my primary title. I had no idea the AI would do such a thing, but probably the emperor thought I deserved a treat for helping him against the Aztecs.

And try as I might, I did not get a faction running that wanted to put somebody else on the throne, reverting me to Frisia. And with that, I ran out of time to finish this achievement. Sigh.

I think next time, I will make sure not to marry into any great houses.
