I downloaded it from here:

https://www.moddb.com/mods/lux-invicta-ck2/downloads/lux-invicta

Which has a more recent version than I can find on this site, for some reason.

The zip file has the .mod file contained with the other files all in one folder, so you have to create a folder in your /documents/paradox/ck2/mod folder called "Lux_Invicta" and within that place all files in the .zip file, except the lux_invicta.mod file, which stays in /documents/paradox/ck2/mod, right ?

I've never seen a mod for ck2 do this.

Am I doing something wrong ? The game just launches into what seems like vanilla CK2.

I'm also using the latest CK2 patch, as nowhere can I see on moddb what version the latest patch of lux invicta is compatible with.

Edit:

I had to open the .mod file and edit the line

path = "mod/Lux Invicta"

to

path = "mod/Lux_Invicta"

adding an underscore to ensure it matches the main mod folder.

Hope you got it working... this is because I never learned how to package up a mod real nice :)
