Ok due tommorrow i will be starting the aar, ive started a few before that got canceled due to loss of files :p (pc reformatted) and in eu2 not hoi, im also not an extremly good writer, but we improve through practice!

The Great Patriotic WAAR:
1936-48 vanilla HoI
Hard Difficaulty
No cheating or reloading!

Aftermath:

In the aftermath of world war one the russian empire was characturised for its 'great retreat', from this the world looks apon the soviet military, as a massive force which lacks the leadership and technology to be effective.
Now we have rid ourselves of the evil Czar's and installed a ideology that values all man as if it were the same organism, in communism is our salvation, our weapon against our enemies who are many.

Careful note must be taken to remember our enemies, when the revolution happened the western govenments of the united kingdom and france sent armies against us aiding our enemies the white's.
Germany has once again grown strong but is no threat to us for the moment, the resurgent poland has emerged from the chaos what was world war one, a poland which belongs to us i might add.

In the east a new threat rises in the form of japan, already spreading their influence into manchuria, their naval expertise is far superior to ours, but they are a weak ideological force, they believe in nothing and quarrel amongst themselves.

The purges have begun, they weaken our leadership but they strengthen our stability and only the ideological communists can lead our nation to victory in all facits of society and the world.

Measures to be taken, 1939:

Our army is large, but not large enough to suffieciently guard our western border, first priority is the creation of approximatly 15 new infantry divisions.

Our second priority is technological, we must catch up in land technologys to our potential enemies in the west.

The final priority shall be to utalise our current technological capabilities and produce as many tanks and planes as possible for this year.

A cold winter in murmansk

1. tank division HQ, Murmansk:

"Vasilji come in here out of the snow!" "yes comrade Argunov", Yuri Argunov was in full officer dress standing in the communications tent, a young lt general who had trained in siberian winter conditions, and for his work he was sent to murmansk, the most northern extremity of the Soviet Union.
"now Vasilji being my second in command and also a new arrival there are a few things i must bring to your attention" yuri took a map from the table beside him and held it so vasilji could see it, "our main concern is keeping our FT-17 tanks out of the snow, they are good machines and they do us proud but i fear soon they will be obsolete" "how many tanks do you have in your possetion yuri?" vasilji inquired, "115, 5 are out of commission until july and 1 we have yet to find the problem with!".
"Vasilji, another problem we have, the STAVKA are breathing down our necks and these political officers, though necissary, question our every move, and so i propose you an i make sure everything goes to plan, 200 miles west of us are the fins, im sure comrade stalin has plans to free our soviet populations there, and we must be ready, let the training begin vasilji!"

Looks cool! Despite the severe lack of manpower in the HOI 1 AAR section... I will be watching!

Operation Blizzard

The new T-26 Tanks.

It is now 1940, and in the past 4 years the military buildup of the soviet union has comprised of many new infantry divisions exploiting the manpower advantages we have.
War has come in the union, the germans recklessly invaded poland and we stepped in to defend them but to no purpose, they were quickly overun and we have suffered minor defeats on our own soil!
Finland have joined the axis and 'Operation Blizzard' (above) is to begin immediatly, during the harsh winter of 1940 this will be tough, but the fins are no match for the might of the soviet union.

"These new T-26 tanks are far superior vasilji, and today we will put them into practice against the fins" Yuri ushered into his command tent a young NCO and gave him the orders for the attack.

8:00
December 19th 1940

The main problem with the assault was the marshland, the tanks would get bogged down and fins would come in close range and disable/destroy them.
However the first 2 days of the fighting the majority of the soviet airforce was supporting the attack, every time the fins tried to take the offensive and retake some of the marshlands they would be beaten back by ground attack planes and medium bombers.

But eventualy un the 3rd day the fins broke through in a suprise attack and the soviet tanks withdrew back to base camp licking their wounds.
Operation Blizzard was a faliure.

Operation 'December Storm'

1100 January 4th 1941

Soviet_civilians_in_a_ruined_Smolensk.jpg

'The first phase of December Storm will be the retaking of smolensk, when achieved a massive massault across the Dniepr westwards is required to secure a bridgehead for phase 2, phase 2 will entail retaking our occupied lands and making preperations for the liberation of Poland.
Phase 2 may be a long and ardous task, but we will preveil once across the Dniepr we will be able to strike the germans in their flanks and put them on their heels back to berlin.'

- K.G. Zhukov speaking to High Command about 'Operation December Storm'

0900 hours on the 4th of january, 1941 soviet planes en route to bombard smolensk are intercepted by a unusualy large force of germany interceptors 300 miles north of smolensk, the soviets put up a quick fight but the bombers are sitting ducks so high command gives the order to retreat. the battle would now commence in 2 hours with no preliminary bombardment by air, a massive artillery barrage began at 1045 from 3 sides of smolensk on the entrenched german forces doing little to weaken their position and adversly it made the enemy aware of the impending attack.

At 1100 hours like clockwork the first divisions arrived, were quickly bogged down by hevily entrenched german forces, though numericaly inferior they inflicted alot of casultys in the first few hours, but the tide turned when Zhukov and his 4 amored divisions arrived, the germans caught unaware that such a force was in the proximity of smolensk, but unwavered they tried to withstand the assault.
By 1300 hours the german line had been broken by the massed armor and field Marshal Von Runsted ordered a withdrawl to a secondary line extending through the city of Smolensk itself.

On the morning of 5th january the germans had managed to form a semi entrenched line more or less within the operation goals of the withdrawl.
The 5th and 6th had a stalemate, the german forces put up a substantial fight although considerably outnumbered in men and tanks the city's cover gavethem the stopping power to hold the soviets temporarily.

On the 6th the german high command no realised they were stuck in an enveloping attack, the soviets in the north under field marshal Tobhulkin crossed the river Dniepr and engaged the flank of the entrenching german forces, this suprise manoever caught Runstedt on his heels, he ordered the remaining forces in the north to withdraw inside the city.

After a bloody day of soviet assaults weakening the german positions and also getting a foothold into the city Runstedt gave the order for the army to make a fighting withdrawl across the dniepr on the morning of the 7th and by the 8th the soviets were inside the city and mopping up last pockets of resistance that they had overun and 0800 9th of january 1941 Zhukov sends a memorandum to STAVKA stating, the battle of Smolensk between the 4th and 9th of january 1941 has ended in a complete Soviet victory.

'The bloody 7th'
- Soviet forces assaulting the city of Smolensk, January 7th 1941.

Statistics:

German estimated 60% of force dead/wounded/missing
105,000 men - 35,000 dead, 64,000 wounded

Soviet estimated 20% of force dead/wounded/missing

Playing as Russia is always fun, lots and lots of toys to play with! Manpower rocks. Good luck with this one.
