((A reminder that players must bear in mind the location of their fleet when signing contracts - fleets get one move per turn, and must be within moving distance of a contract's area of operation in order to sign. Also, you must now keep an eye on your fuel level. Every operation your fleet performs in a foreign sector uses up a unit of fuel. This can quickly be remedied by purchasing a unit of fuel from a regime or company within the foreign sector - or you can mine it yourself over the course of a full turn. Each unit of fuel costs 5mcr. when purchasing fuel, make sure you state who you are buying it from, ie...

Atheneum Directorate purchases a unit of fuel from I.C.E.

for regimes, a purchase of fuel will increase demand of fuel being refined from Tylium and increase their GDP by 5mcr. For companies, this will put the purchase price in their credits account.
Stats will be finished tonight, but just to give you an idea, all players start out with 0mcr, with the ability to go into deficit. If you didn't make any credits last turn, you will have a 0mcr GDP or account balance.

When exploring Darkspace, players will be burn up fuel and have to refine tylium for a full turn in order to move again - purchasing an outpost for 15mcr, will allow you to stay fueled in that sector of space, as well as any other fleets require to purchase fuel from you in that sector, so long as you can hold the outpost. Only one outpost may exist in a Darkspace sector. If you feel your outpost is in danger, and your fleet is nowhere near to defend, post a contract, a player or NPC will aid in the defense.))

Atheneum Directorate Security Contract

Companies are hereby offered a lucrative contract with a 15mcr sign on bonus, with a bounty paid on all Queens exterminated. Signees will be required to take part in a major offensive on Sparta, Atheneum, under the command of Rear Admiral Nicholas Salaris. All materials necessary for offensive operations will be provided by the companies themselves, and the Atheneum Directorate takes no responsibility for damages or loss of life.

HydraQuarter; Latest News

morgan-freeman.jpg

Hello, this is David Black and this is HydraQuarter News, the latest and most important news source on the Hydra System and it's inhabitants.

Earlier today, George Steel, Headman of Colonial Flotilla #11266578AB-3S, which many have come to call the Blob announced that the entire nation is changing it's de jure name. Here is an excerpt of his speech regarding the entire episode:

... the name "the Blob" though understandable with regards of the nature of the formation of the Colonial Flotilla. However it is not a professional name, nor one that is deserving of it's citizens. Therefore we shall officially take the name of the Dominion of Shawnigan. Thank you.

It has become known that many simply disregard this name, and continue to use the name of "the Blob" to describe the new regime of Shawnigan. That said, it is also becoming increasingly common for miners and traders to refer to Shawnigan as "Blobia". Reports have it that Headman Steel is unimpressed with the name.

However that is not our only news from Planet Shawnigan. Two more reports are incoming. The first being is an announced agreement between the various independent settlements of Shawnigan and the Dominion of Shawnigan which has resulted in the integration of the planet under one united flag that will be headed by the Dominion.

As well, the Dominion has publicly refused to sign the Valour Accord. An excerpt of his press briefing on the subject is as follows:

The Dominion is in no way capable of assisting the Atheneum Directorate at this time. We are a civilian planet and a civilian administration that has only just recently united our planet. While we agree with the removal of the bug menace, we cannot in good faith sign an agreement we cannot uphold. I hope the Atheneum Directorate will forgive us in this matter. We will willing take any and all refugees fleeing the area as a port of call....

That is all for now, this is David Black, for all your Hydra System News, Good day.

Extranet Report

-The Blob officially renamed itself to the Dominion of Shawnigan which everyone is free to ignore
-The Dominion of Shawnigan officially signs agreements with the other settlements on Shawnigan to unite the planet under the Dominion
-The Dominion declines to sign the Valour Accords, but willing to take in refugees

((Note: Anyone can use David Black and HydraQuarter news to explain any news in the Hydra System.))

((Just want to clarify the difference between Fleet and Colony/Base orders...

Your fleet is your main tool for exploring, expanding, exterminating enemies and exploiting resources in the Fringe. Beyond that, your fleet is used in carrying out player and NPC contracts.

As for your colony/base, orders are a little more flexible and catered more to your IC. The scope of your colonial/base order is limited to your immediate star system. Order colonial or base personnel to hunt pirates, conduct trade, go on recruitment drives, or collect bounties. Your base orders will earn you credits to your account or GDP at a steadier pace then your fleet can, and will be your main source of income. But I encourage you all to have fun with it. What do you want to IC about? Perhaps a former officer has gone rogue? Or a spy has infiltrated your ranks and stolen valuable tech? Want to build a massive refinery, or an orbital space station? Whatever you want to write about, why not make it a base/colony order?))

FNN Special Report

EDI

"A Kelmore Combine mining ship, The Blind Justice, operating in the Diomedes Star System was struck with disaster last rotation, when a solar flare wreaked havoc on the ship's systems and sparked a fire in the mining ship's 'hotlabs'. An unknown mercenary company is said to be responsible for rescue operations that saved the lives of the ship's crew.

Kelmore Combine, the mining interest that first settled the Fringe, mainly operates out of the Chimera System. Kelmore Officials have denied operating in Diomedes and insist that the Blind Justice went rogue. A spokesperson from the Atheneum Directorate expressed concern that the Combine seems to be expanding their operation beyond Chrimera, maintaining that the Kelmore Combine is an illegal mining operation and warned that any Kelmore operations within Atheneum Star System would be viewed as a breach of the Atheneum Peace Treaty, and an act of war.

With FNN, I am EDI, wishing you a good day.

McNeil looks through the Extranet feed, browsing some of the news stories for the day. Suddenly, a news alert pops up about the war against the bugs in the Athenium Directorate.

Looks like its taking a turn for the worse, he thought.

The footage of the giant bug, though, made the situation even worse than at first glance. It seems that the Athenium Directorate is facing a more powerful foe than McNeil thought the bugs were at first glance.

"It seems that the Athenium Directorate is falling apart at the ... seams. No pun intended," Patterson said.

"Sorry for straying off topic," Ramsay interrupted, "but do you know what this company needs?"

"What? Is it a 20 foot tall bug?" McNeil asked.

"Wow!" Ramsay exclaimed sarcastically. "How did you know that?"

"Because I knew that was going to be your answer. Anyway, do we have anything of interest?"

"Well, there is the New Fringe Shipping contract that recently surfaced," answered Patterson.

"Really? That sounds like something we should be able to do."

"It sounds risky, though."

"Are we going to have to get some stuff into the Athenium sector?"

"Yup."

"Well, that will be target practice for the fighter pilots. They should stop complaining about having nothing to do now."

"So," Ramsay asked McNeil, "is it a date?"

"Yup. Hook me up with the people in charge of the thing. You can also get the rest of the people here. We're going to have to coordinate this thing."

As Ramsay left to get the others, he thought about his son Jason. He was the only experienced pilot left flying the fighters the Kestrel Company had on hand. All of the other pilots are some recruits who've logged some hours in flight and in the sims, but have never been in a real fight. As Jason hasn't seen any action ever since coming to the Fringe, he passes the time by telling tales of his fights in the Kestrel War. Jason claims that he's shot down 20 enemies, but McNeil thinks Jason is telling a fib; company records state that Jason only had 10 recorded enemies shot down during the Kestrel War. As a parent concerned for his child, McNeil had always thought that Jason would get blown up before he was 25. Now, at 28, Jason surprised McNeil. He managed to survive and become a double ace. In fact, people have even called Jason "the Indestructible" for his supposed tale of being shot down in combat, but miraculously surviving.

McNeil hopes that Jason trained the recruits well enough; the Tess Doerner could well become another wreckage in the Fringe without good some good fighter pilots to help defend it.

Faction Name: Titan Company
Leader Name(s): Marcus 'Junior' Titus
Flotilla/Ship: The Reconciliation, Corvette
Colony/Company Mandate: Military
Alignment: Neutral

Bio: Once an operative for the Deathshead Legion, Marcus Titus, founder of Titan Company, was betrayed while on a contract and left for dead in the Outer Rim. Vowing revenge against the Legion officer who betrayed him, Marcus built his own mercenary company based on a moon of Esteuchon, just before the Moscow Crisis. A militarized company modeled after the strict military hierarchy of the Legion, Marcus considered himself the toughest soldier in the Colonies and was committed to proving himself to his rival companies.

Marcus became consumed by his quest for revenge, leaving behind his family on Esteuchon Minor, Marcus travelled the Rims, looking to sate his hunger for vengeance. His quest took his life.

Years later, Marcus Junior left Esteuchon to follow his father's footsteps as a mercenary. As civilization crumbled, Junior traveled back to Esteuchon Minor, intent on saving his family and escaping to the Fringe. By the time he arrived, it was too late. With nothing left, Junior, and what is left of Titan Company made a straight burn for the Shipping Lane, and escaped to the Fringe...

Captain Marcus Junior Titus
Though he holds little fondness for his father, Junior has been told his whole life he is a spitting image of the man, both in looks and character. Anyone who mentions this fact to Marcus, however, end up with a severe concussion. Though he appears uncaring and cold on the surface, he does hold a certain degree of care and affection for his crew, in his own way.

Commander Dom Mauritez
Second in command of Titan Company. Cautious in the field, and often the voice of reason in the company. Emotionally stable with a rare ability to remain calm under intense pressure

Lt. Commander Ace White
Prides himself on being the best pilot in the colonies. Ego's aside, he is a fine pilot, though beyond arrogant. Fearless at the helm, almost to a detriment, with a soft spot for the ladies.

500px-Cog_dizzy.jpg

Lt. Dizzy Everet
A former USG Marine who escaped incarceration as civilization collapsed. Shacked up with the company to keep fed. His expertise with heavy armaments earned him a well respected place among the Titans.

The Grunts
The expendable frontline troops of the company. Very few of them survived to make the jump to the Fringe, the few that did make it, died in a failed mutiny attempt along the year long burn. Until the ranks of these grunts are replenished, there is little Titan Company can do.

The Heren State
State Apparatus for Public Information

As determined by the Grand Council of the Heren State, in accordance with the tenants of public interest, the necessity for program to resettle and reorganize Heren society upon this planet must be pursued. Thus, as decided upon jointly by Commissioner Lehrman and Commandant Zolotov, in the hopes of a return to normalcy and an improved national identity, Greenstar Alpha shall henceforth be known as Heren, in memory of our departed homeland.

In other news, Commissioner Lehrman recently released the following statement in regards to those private contractors also residing upon Heren:

"During these trying times, we as a race must band together for mutual protection, lest we fail in our survival. However, the Heren State must take all measures to ensure that all its citizens are kept safe from exterior factors that could prove to weaken the communal chain, a weak link that endanger us all. As such, I must insist that representatives of those private contractors be sent to myself for clarification towards intent and common protocol."

Although the Commandant as yet to provide offficial word on this request, notable General Staffer Commodore Syurk mentioned that, "...it is a logical and righteous precaution to ensure the Heren State's perpetuity."
