Playing as Spain

I just started a game as Spain for the first time and it is a bit harder than I expected. The leaders suck! I outnumbered a British fleet 6 to 1 and still lost the battle along with 3 ships.

Does anyone have have any experiences using Spain where they had success with certain strategies?

Is taking Gibraltar worth pursuing or is the fort too strong even from land?

You will most likely not be able to sink any amount of British Ships. What I do is usually set up a spiderweb of ships in every sea zone and move my transports where there are no British. Then attack and land.
Usually works. Try to land 100-150k troops in Britian.

Try using the 1792V5 mod - while balancing a ton of other aspects of the game, the naval game really is great in comparison to vanilla.
