Part XII - The Importance of Beeing Rare

1939 followed a somewhat depressing year. In 1938 we had seen our Bengali friends lose their Freedom, while we sat powerless to help them. We had started a war of agression, for bases we needed to prevent another "Bengal", and to protect ourselfs, but still one that had left a stain in our peacefull intentions. Moreover, that war had lasted longer then anyone had hoped, costing so much in lives and material, we could not even imagine how much it would cost to extend Freedom to the rest of the World.

1939 would have to be very diferent then. And the Propaganda Office had just the tool to start it with:

These 3 new Chainbreaker class Battleships had been completed during the war with Portugal still, but their commissioning had been postponed to 1939 so as to provide the masses with another bost in moral, one hoped to be at least at the same rate as the commissioning of the Chainbreaker.

Photos of the ships were distributed in all schools and factories, such as this one from the RNS Republican.

And films like this one could be seen on Union Headquarters and cinemas, showing the building and early navigation and fire tests of the new objects of pride for the British Worker.
FILM

And with a spirit of renweal, the 3 joined the new light cruisers Penelope and Aurora and the flagship Chainbreaker in the new Worker's Pride Fleet.

More good news came with the first Defense Forces reaching the new Forward Bases of Revolution, providing some peace of mind for those more worried about a quick German or Australian take-over of these territories.

January beeing good for beginings, another naval project starts with the ordering of two new light carriers, a necessity proven by the short fights with the portuguese navy, and the planes to fit the larger carriers under the last phases of construction.

In the diplomatic front, the government presents the industrial progresses of Portugal and Mozambique as great successes of Syndicalist labour organization, explaining how the production in these two nations had increased so much we were gladly sending them some of our own metal, energy and rares, for they were spending them in a far larger amount then ever before! Army and Naval military experts are also sent to help our new friends, who are happy to welcome our supervision and help in their defense, with the stationing of our oldest battleships and some infantry divisions in their territory.

All this ends up having the fortunate side-effect of increasing the Masses foundness of international solidarity, seen as a sacrifice that brings great rewards of friendship (+1 interventionism)

But as things apear to improve in Britain again, in June they go downhill for our French and Sicilian friends, as their industrial production plumets to rather worrisome levels!

After we offer them some of our rares, their resource flow makes the problem self-evident:

With no way to solve this, after enquiring the most-wise-and-progressive-forums with no solution... we cheat and give them a shitload of rares. The revolution won't fail for trading incompetence...

Gloom would not last long, however, as on July the 9th, amidst great celebration the commissioning of the RNS Hammer takes place! The so-far called Class 7 is thus officialy renamed to active Class Hammer.

While this is one of the Union's greatest moments, behind the cherfull faces of the Government and Navy officials, a silent war takes place. Another Class Hammer battleship is due ready in September, but the same yards that completed the Hammer won't have another one ready until February 1941 (perhabs sonner, as we finish the Assembly Line technics), and great as this class is, not all belive it is the weapon Britain needs right now.

More specificly, a considerable number of navy officers openly propose that one of the Class Hammer building sequences is alltogether canceled, and the many resources these ships need are diverted to another goal - sumarine warfare! These officers point out how many Capital Ships we know Germany has, and how it will be impossible for us to match those numbers. They point out that the new prototype of A-Boat submarine would be able to avoid major naval confrontations alltogether, while wreacking the conection between Germany and their allies and colonies world-round.

So far, a final decision has not been taken. What say thee, ho revolutionary readAARs?

Part secondo intermezzo

Settle down class, settle down - BE QUIET!
Yes, now gather around Pioneers. Turn the chairs to the screen, exactly.

Today we'll be having a class dedicated to Curiosities of the World, so that you'll learn how deformed are the opressors of foreign countries. Now, for you to see these maps and photos better, I'll be using this large lantern here - could you shut down the light please Joe? Thank you.

First we'll take a look at Pope - or the Italian Federation how they call themselfs.

Notice the absurdity in how the Pope pretends to be someone else and takes up an alter-persona as Cardinal Innitzer to direct the opression of the masses.
Also look at "Mother Pasqualina", doesn't she look mean? She's well-known for beeing a corrupt kleptocrat. You see how religion opresses and lies?
Very well.

Now let's look at White Russia, another nation where religon is used to crush the Working Class, with the aid of monarchy. Notice how everyone lives worse because of it, producing less even though they exploit the largest class.

And sepeaking of monarchies, let's look at the ridiculous goverment of the fake state called Don-Kubar Union. Do you belive they actualy have a throne where a crown stands? And they bow to it! Isn't that silly, children?

Moving on, we take a look at the Americans. Doesn't their Vice President look mean? And he is! But look at their Minister of Security. He looks like he's dressed for Silly Dressing Day, but he actualy goes dressed like that every day! These populists are so strange, aren't they litle Pioneers? But they are also bad people. We must stand up agaist them.

And now, since we still have some time, I'll show you maps prepared for the older classes. Don't worry if you don't understand these.

Yamamoto as Chief of the Air Force.

Ata... hm... Mustapha Kemal as Chief of the Army.

Mighty Mustaches in Georgia

I have talked with comrades from my factory - we all think that submarine production is quite risky undertaking at the moment - our Republican Navy specialises in battleships and it would take years before we can train enough good seamen and officers for submarine warfare. Even with the best equipement available, lack of experience would make us very vulnerable. So, our final opinion is: we sholud focus on great cannons mounted on enormous warships that can destroy not only another ships, but also fortifications and enemy coastal artillery. Moreover, some of us think that aircraft carriers should be second element of our sea power.

Oh - and we have watched the film - it's very inspirating, but lack of music makes it less enjoyable. Some patriotic melodies, i.e. our national anthem would be a great addition to such productions.

Army/Air Force

While my comrades and I support the expansion of the Navy we have concerns over the state of the Army and Air Forces. While the Navy can intercept, bombard and land troop they cannot occupy territory and are vulnerable to aircraft. Carriers and subs seem a good option but how about some Army modernization first.

I've been talking to my comerades soldiers in the barracks, sure, the navy and the airforce are needed for tactical situations, specially for disembarks, but the ones who rised against the royalist scum were us, the people's army, we need more comerades soldiers, more tanks and more big, and big artillery cannons, that's sure thing.

I wonder why that man that is a legend amongst the georgians, "Koba", is not on their government, that at the moment, are a glorious syindicalist republic, but they are still "on the closet"

Indeed, this Innitzer (or "Pope" Julius IV, for that matter) has an evil face, sure that he has more than a religious relationship with that mother Pasqualine, for sure. :D

Also, that Huey Long looks silly with that flat white hat, who thinks that he's?
The "Pope"?

I salute the comrades at the dockyards, but I have a question if allowed: why did we not call the class Vanguard Class, as it is the vanguard of the Republican Navy?

Your opinion shall be taken into consideration comrades, we thank you for it.
As for the carriers, what else could they be? Primary? Hahaha, that would be the day. Planes are usefull and all, but nothing will ever chalange the simple direct power of a huge cannon onboard a huge armored ship!

Well then, another question for the U(nion)-man Sarmatia is in order ;)

I'm afraid I am at fault with you comrades, for I have neglected the updates on our most Revolutionary Army. Ever since January 1936 there has been a constant triple series of infantry in production, changed to 1939 infantry when it became availiable. We also produced 4 divisions of armored forces so far.
And we still lack leaders. But your opinions are also noted - and perhabs you'll agree another HQ would be usefull, to garantee safety at home when and if we see ourselfs involved in Canada or Germany?

Well you see comrades - the Hammer isn't the Vanguard. The later was ordered in 1941, beeing closer in game to a 1941 BBV then to a 1938 BBVII (SHBB).
So the model I'm using for the Hammer Class is that of the never-built Lion Class, wich was essencialy a larger KG5 (Chainbreaker). The picture I showed was a photoshoped photo to display the size of a Lion Class, wich I found on the net.

There's no picture of White Russia by the way.

But I'm pretty sure it sucks even without any pictures.

Part XIII - Steady as She Goes!

A compromise is reached. When the second Hammer Class is finished in September, the one ordered after it will not be built, resources diverted instead to upgrading the army and airforce in a first moment, and later to equip both of these with weapons to make use of the mighty Navy.
That translates imidiatly into new research priorities

With the Azorean base in our service, we can now send scouts to Canadian shores again... here's what they find.
Good news these are - but we'll need to improve our decryption methods if we're to understand exactly what forces we'll have to deal with on disenbark. Work on that area begings shortly after.

Proving September 1939 can only be a glorious month, our three now Carriers are ready to be commissioned.

Here's a picture of the RNS Internationale testing landings, using aircraft from the RNS Rebecca, since the new ones weren't ready yet.

Later in the same month, the RNS Red Torch is finaly commitioned. Here it is standing next to it's brother RNS Hammer.

The new arrivals prompted a re-organization of the Republican Navy.
Two Battleship fleets were created, one around each of the new Hammer Class, one large Carrier fleet would gather all the non-support carriers, and one reserve fleet would gather all the ships that were neither too old to be exluded nor modern enough to be of good use within our newer models.

In November, the aicraft for Illustrious Class and two new support carriers are finished. Named RNS Sentinel and RNS Guardian they are assigned to the Hammer and Red Torch fleets.

We enter 1940 increasingly ready for war against Canada, hoping this is the year we finaly end the Royalist menace once and for all.

...Canada might have to wait.

Unfortunatly the events surrounding the whole afair have a couple of problems I haven't been able to solve yet, so we'll have to wait until the KR team can respond to their thread. :eek:o

There's not much to say about them anyhow. Except that they have a czar again, wich in itself... says it all

Comrade, my advice is to wait. War between Germany and the Communes is not our matter for now. We should send our troops to France, however, if the war goes as bad as Indian one. And congratulate the Republic Navy on completion of these new battleships and aircraft carriers. All workers of Britain should celebrate this glorious moments. *fireworks*

Too bad. I doubt France alone can handle Germany and all her allies. Britain weighing in would improve the odds, but the conflict would still take quite a while and truly become a second Great War. If the Entente powers stay out of it, hopefully the Syndicalists will emerge powerful enough to finish off Canada and company.

While Germany is certainly the most dangerous threat, I think it would be best merely to support France there and not get too deeply entangled yourself. Eventually you may have to march across to Ukraine to finish off the German alliance in Europe, unless a third power like Austria or Russia decide to take advantage of German troubles. For Britain, I think you'd be better served by knocking out the secondary theatres, like taking out Mittelafrika and seizing Suez while doing what you can to support French advances in Europe.

i didn't know there was a problem surrounding the war, besides the dissent hit if you join through events.

i agree with everyone else. support france, but focus on taking out german client nations in africa etc. but you will have to help hold the line in europe

1. Beautiful ships! And English Syndaicalist ship names are awesome.

2. Yes, Canada might have to wait indeed.

When I see these ships my subconcious mind makes me hum "Rule Britannia" but maybe that is too royalistic. I might have to go to a reducation camp someday if this keeps up.
