Thanks. XP systems are vastly over-represented among those who have problems. We're setting up an XP system here on Monday, and we'll hopefully get to grips with the issue then.

Got the same freeze issue here.
Happens especially when there is lots of missiles in the air.

8 gig Ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M

I'm having the same problem. My computer configuration is the following:

Win XP SP3
Intel E5700 3.0Ghz
2Gb RAM

I tried the demo from STEAM and the game froze on me several times. Bought the game on steam thinking the patches would have solved the problem....same freeze situation happens randomly within just a few (0 to 5 minutes).
Latest drivers everywhere. running on one year old high range hardware. windows 7. turned off all background apps etc...

XP SP 3 has always been in the stated system requirements. It was omitted on the game's website by an error (copy & paste from some other Pdx game site, obviously).
