As we know, AOD has changed the rendering engine from 1.11.
If I understand correctly, was the mouse cursor changed from a software cursor to a hardware cursor? I just feel it is very smooth compared with the previous AOD versions and DH which are still using DirectDraw. Feel great!
 
No change to the cursor, but when Lennart went from DirectX to SDL2 that might have had some part in the smooth cursor.

From SDL's site:
"Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform development library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, and graphics hardware via OpenGL and Direct3D"​

I can confirm something has changed, but in what version I couldn't tell.
In 1.08 you can edit the "cursor_(in)active.bmp" files to your liking, in 1.12 it has no effect.
Another thing regarding the interface: in 1.08 the message boxes were still partly transparent, not in 1.12.
