What kind of things do you do to increase your own power using the Emperor's position. I don't care so much in electing my heirs indefinitely (also my heir is useless, to my shame), I'm more interested in increasing in power within the empire, using what is probably a very short-term position to do so.

There are many kingdom level titles that are available for me to create but how would I keep them? If I create them as emperor, are they going to be primogeniture kind of titles that will go to my heir or remain elective and pass on to the next emperor? If it's the later, is there a way to keep them somehow? I'm thinking I could create them and award them to my heir (normally, not as viceroalties of course). Would that work? Would they become elective within their de jure regions?

I'm playing on ironman so I can't just do it and see what happens.

Turns out when those titles are created they remain electoral, as expected, but when I give them to my heir they become gavelkind. Not ideal but it's better than nothing.

When elected to higher tier without inheritance do what people in real life did. Improve your demeshe. Hoard gold, revoke most yummy parts from vassals, marry your children to Queens which are available.

Revoking all the vassals' title and make byz become a tribal Empire and changing the religion to Shia, to invasion Sunni & Catholic realm, that's best way to save Greek, Croatian and Armenia world, After you are truly security, change the religion back to Orthodox mend the schism, destroy the fake religion locate at Roma and destroy all Caliph.
Or your Christian brother will invade you by the 4 th crusade and take 2 jihad from the Muslim brothers.
You are the Emperor of Greek, you should take care, protect and save the Greek ( And Roman )people!
