I became hellenic a couple of times while playing in the byantine empire, but i found it very hard as an Italian character becouse the only holy site in italy is rome, the rest is part of the byzantines or muslims, can anyone recomdnd an italian count or duke character in the early start dates for me ? Also how to you get a cb for rome?

If I recall correctly the forging of claims is hindered. Best way is getting the duchy of latium and push a dejure claim.

In the Charlemagne start Italy is ruled by langobards, just Venice stands Italian. If you don't want to start Lombard and assimilate, it would be best to get a look at the "italian" vassals of the karlings in the Old Gods campaign.
