So i'm playing Spain and trying to turn the fading power into the most powerful state in europe and by 1861 i have 10 factories and at least half of them are profitable, with the big money coming from liquor

From my understanding of industry, literacy, low tarrifs, good RGO output from technology and a strong sphere of influence market (or being #1 rank) are all key to industry.

But my question is how do you absolutely maximise a strong early industry to become a powerhouse, as early as possible?

The one key to creating a healthy industrial base early on is to either promote or demote pops into Craftsmen. That can mean taxing your middle class heavily to demote Artisans to Craftsmen (while using the Administrative, Educational, and Military sliders to control those pops relative to the Artisans), or else either boosting or cutting your poor taxes to laterally displace farmers and laborers into Craftsmen. Eventually, you'll need to promote some of your poorer classes into Clerks.
