It is no understatement that, in history, the Colonial powers were built on the back of Spice Trade.

The presence of Spice also gives great significance to the Spice Islands and Straits of Malacca.

I am quite disappointed to learn that there is no spice in South East Asia, - instead there is grain...
 
If you want Gold and Spice, play EU III.. In Vic 2 you get Tropical Trees, coffee, tea and Opium.

I think maybe this game is more focused on Industrial goods, not so much spices..
 
While the Spice Trade was a big deal in earlier times, but by 1836 it was rapidly declining in importance, and hit the point of near-irrelevance pretty soon into the game.
