graphics keep crashing

until recently i was playing both warband and with fire and sword with no issues, then about 6 weeks ago the graphics started crashing/smearing for anything up to half an hour, sometimes for only 30 seconds. i have windows vista, directx 10 and a nvidia 9400gt.
as i said a recent issue but one that ruins any gameplay enjoyment

At that time, did you update your graphic drivers? Maybe the current version is a bit buggy with these games. If so, install the previous version and see if that helps.

no, i updated my drivers after the graphics started crashing. they still crash.

Could you post a dxdiag of your system?

• Open your Start menu
• Type "dxdiag" in the search field (without quotes).
• Open the dxdiag program.
• A window called "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" should pop up now.
• At the bottom right-hand side, click on "Save all information".
• Save it to a place where you can find it easily, for example your desktop.
• Open the file and copy and paste the text between [NOPARSE]
  [/NOPARSE] tags.

Are you encountering this only with Mount & blade or also with other games?

Download and install GPU-Z or Speedfan. Let me know the temperatures before you start playing the game and after +/- 15 to 30 minutes playing Mount & blade.
