Shouldn't all the dead kings stuff be split between all his 2nd degree descendents, ie brothers/cousins whatever? Between the AI's current enthuiasm for leading its own armies and the weird way that gavelkind works, I don't think i've seen a karling spend more time than 5 years in the highest office, and never manage to reproduce while sitting in it.
