Like a sea storm on the red horizon. She prepares by routing as many bandits in her fiefdom as possible. Next she starts getting a closer connection through simple trade encounters with her kin Agaistín Ó Luain, Baron of Leon.

More importantly though she begins her hunt to save herself from the Wraith Curse. While at Soumore for the council she examines the grand library connected to the Cathedral of the Maiden, built over the supposed resting place of Clawra, the main figure that lead to the Clawrasy religion's founding. Here Fianna stumbles upon a book worn down by age with a passage of old tribes before the unification. As not everyone united under Cahoul the Victorious during the invasion, as his were not the first humans to settle, despite what popular myth holds.

In the small library of its fifty some books she finds a tome based around a Faerun concept. The Fae believed magical lines of power flowed through the world like blood in a vein or artery. The Fae often congregated and built atop intersection points. This book while made by man details many things of these odd fonts of energy.

The land is a buzz with the supposed raids by the Baron Leclerc. Many nobles prepare themselves ,fearing to be the next target. The Comtese on the other hand decides to use diplomacy instead. Springing off her findings at Apokrystein she follows believed Ley Line paths to a small exclave of Fae. The vast majority are brownies, boggarts, and pixies in this group. Lady Esenaysh manages to leave with the Fae less cold to her. With the recent culling attempts by Leclerc and 540 years of animosity between the Fae and Men of Doumore it is hard to make alliances, yet it was a strong step in the right direction.

Lord du Lenoria also brings his forces across the shallow crossing of the river Salvo that Rowin guards to offer protection for Dwrlais.

Arthur du Lenoria uses his spare time to research into his family lineage. He knows he has Fae ancestry, but it is far more distant and diluted than that of people like Prince Aurigian. More people = more taxe revenue. More revenue = more gold. More gold = me not beheading you for incompetence. The Steward Milton of course works very hard to ensure Count Tolhus is pleased. Joséphine is pleased by her unborn child's acceptance as king. This is soured though by the fact some are blaming her for an attack on Aoric. She astutely states though that the force that attacked it, based off the few surviving citizens of Aoric, was made mostly of Men-at-Arms while she herself only has a missile units in her arsenal. Most importantly though is that Aoric is too far away for an army from Blackton to reach in that time. In truth she would have trouble reaching Aoric from Blackton inside a season even with just a questing party. She was in Blackton however. On her journey to and back from her fief she studies into the Divine Chalice more thoroughly. She manages to find that the last one to hold the chalice was a Guillium af Salvo.

I'll post something on Religions seeing how a few people keep sending orders dealing with the Clawrasy religion.

The Cardinal, head of religion, is picked through election from all the clerics in the realm. A full on democratic system which takes a long time. One can only be Cardinal if having served as a Bishop though.

Archbishops are raised by two means, one merit for ther work or if the Cardinal at the time is corrupt and just raising sycophantic puppets. They are promoted from the Bishop ranks by the Cardinal.

Bishops follow the same trend as the archbishop except they are promoted by a vote from the other archbishops, to fill the role as there must always be 3 Archbishops. To become a bishop one must win a vote held by their fellow bishops.

Each clerical structure is meant to have a Priest whose appointment is controlled by their liege bishop. Depending on the operation of the structure the Priest will have one or two deacons who are training to be priests; nuns if a nunnery; monks if monastery; and friars whose jobs are journeymen priests, traveling around to proselytize.

There are five Bishoprics, 1 for each Duchy. The Archbishopric are divided around population and geography.
VqxbNzD.jpg

There are numerous religious orders and sects but these are the most well known.

Order of the Cross of Caerny
232 - Present
Based around Troston, but with the main headquarters in Gunmarr Pass, this is a militant order. It was originally raised by a group of knights to act as a secular force to protect pilgrims from the Western Kingdoms, coming to visit sights of the human invasion and conquest of the First Home, Doumore as we call it. In 345 Hochmeister Otwin of Viscay brought many of his fervent beliefs and practices. No longer just helping secular pilgrimages he went to offering protection to friars going out into the cruel western lands to spread the word of Clawrasy. He also put the order on the track of providing clemency to those who fled oppression under the heathen Fae Kings. Now the Order works closely with the Oeust Archbiishopric

Sisters of the Blessed Anchorage
370 - Present
This is a Nunnery order who works to assist families of lost sailors. The Sisters are much beloved, and their headquarters is based in Ogac, with satelite nunneries in Viscay, Othal, Dair, Caerglen, and Jorwick.

League of the Holy Fire
145 - Present
One of the oldest orders still existing it was founded suring a period of attempted wars and crusades to expand human dominance in the numerous lands west of Gunmarr's Pass. This one however never left Doumore. Count Childric of Yrenil figured it would be much easier, and cheaper, to attack Fae that still lived here in Doumore. Many Fae lived openly in Doumore as their ancestors not long ago helped Cahoul the Victorious in his conquest, in return for being sparred. Childric and his followers didn't agree with this and went about several pograms and other massacres. Initially denounced by the church popular opinion forced the Church to welcome them in. Now with the prestige and financial backing of the Clawrasy hierarchy the Order of the Holy Fire went about hunting other things. Most famously are their many inquisitorial attempts to slay vampires, cultists, witches, and all other blasphemous creatures.

Order of the Victorious Quill
325 - Present
A monastic order scattered throughout Doumore. Their main objective is to write any and all books they can find, so long as agents of their Bishop agrees the books are worth writing down that is. If you are wealthy enough to own a book, chances are it has the feather quill seal of these monks on it.

Sisters of the Ill
340 - Present
This is one of the other nun orders, as each one does a different task. As the name suggests they offer help to the ill, and are often seen following desease break outs and armies, which often fall prey to dysentery.

Brothers of Baruhn
339 - Present
a monastic order centered around finding the latest medical and alchemical techniques. Meant to help study and advance secular knowledge, with church morality to ensure no one tries to play god.

A courier arrives at the capital after Leopold travelled back to his duchy, informing the council that he abstains in the decision to choose a regent.

I would like to offer my sincerest thanks and congratulate you on your fine work, if other builders had even half your ability I would be most happy. It is unfortunate I must write to you with news of a delay to your shipment of fine foodstuffs.

Put simply, many of my traders are reluctant to travel to your lands over fears of dark magics and necromancy being practised there. Normally I would attribute these concerns to mere scaremongering but I have heard of other necromancers practising their foul arts more openly in recent times.

I feel loathed to even ask but is there anything you can say to allay my fears?

You are most welcome, and hopefully the buildings will serve you well. In regards to your fears I shall allay them.

I am indeed a necromancer. Though I don't kidnap children in the night and have rotting flesh from dark magic. I simply enjoy engineering and find the human body a most fascinating construct. Necromancy happens to be the best means of studying this biological marvel; even though it is rather unseemly and unpopular. You should not worry yourself with the superstitious chatter of peasants. I hope my hobby does not damper our budding business relations.

A letter arrives for the Duke of Dale:

Dearest Duke,

Recently one of my vassals, the Baron of Aoric, was attacked viciously, and hundreds of his people slain for little identifiable reason. His population was shredded, the majority of his subjects having been killed, and his lands essentially rendered useless for the next years. Thought the Comtesse of Blackton's Banners were sighted at the massacre, I think we both know that she could not move such a force so far south so quickly, especially without your knowledge, and I know that none of my vassals were responsible for such a senseless slaughter. The Baron of Aoric has claimed that he was personally wounded by the Count of Raida, and I believe him. I will be moving a sizeable force to the Count's border in the coming season, not to threaten him, but to ensure that should he dare step foot in my Duchy again he shall pay for it. I plead you investigate this matter personally and call the monster to task for his actions.

Respectfully,
The Duke of Ogac

As the Noble Council reconvened, Count Charles entered and spoke with uncharacteristic conviction and a tinge of anger.

"I have been informed that my vassal, the Baron of Aoric, was attack this past season, and despicable men inflicted a slaughter upon his holdings. Nearly two thirds of the population was massacred, all of the warriors killed, and the Baron put on death's door from his wounds. Such a cowardly and vicious attack cannot be allowed to go unanswered. I have been informed that the soldiers involved in the attack carried the banner of Blackton."

Fervish whispering breaks out at the blame being apparently laid at the feet of the mother of the unborn monarch.

"Yet I am certain that this is nothing more than a trick by the actual perpetrators. For Blackton is much too far for a force to reach Aoric in a season. More importantly, Baron Lothar has adamantly stated that the leader of the attack was no other than the Count of Raida. Raida borders Aoric, and would be far more suited to launch an attack against Aoric.

This vicious attack occurred without provocation, and I demand that the Count of Raida face justice for his vile actions.

As for the matter of the Regency, I maintain my position that the Queen Dowager is the only proper choice for the regency."

I appreciate your honesty and while undeath is prohibited within my lands I see no harm in the scholarly pursuits of a renowned engineer of your calibre. I shall do my best to persuade my people that their fears are unjust yet in the interest of concluding our arrangement it may be easier for you to send your own men back with this messenger to collect the food. I understand the inconvenience this may cause and so I am willing to increase the amount by a further 1,000 units of food to a total of 2,000 units to safeguard our continued trade relation.

That is a most generous offer and one I find hard to refuse. Especially with the winter months fast approaching. I shall have my men gather the goods, and due let me know if you ever need further assistance in the future.

Arthur stared at the book the Comtesse had entrusted him with. Of course he have had the good head for having a false cover over it, so to anyone that happened to be looking, he was reading a treaty about different types of rocks and stone. Damn it was interesting. Really interesting. Much more than his bandit chase, as it seems his own fears about delinquency in Dwrlais were not funded: no relevant incident, but no chess either, as the Baron was busy in the great council. Something to be admired on his neighbour: being able to concentrate in such elevated duties in such dire circumstances.

Speaking about direness: he decided to close the book for a moment and return it in its unconspiscious place on the library. Then he robbed some time for a letter to the far domains of Baron Terzic:

"My dear sir: I wish to make you know that, if it's within my power to help you in any manner... it is my deepest desire to be informed about it. Sadly, your lands are for me a very, very far away fief, whose story and needs are a mistery for me. Knowing that you are its capable ruler, Im quite sure you'll succeed in your battle against famine: an enemy not worst, if crueler, than any other you have battled before.
Furthermore, I want you to know that, despite my fame, I undertand that important matters are, by definition far more important than otium. So I still await for your next move, but do so with patience"

Age: 20

Attributes:
Charming – You are very eloquent and people are drawn to you. (Rolls that involve persuading people +1)
Wanderer – You either have no fief to call your own, or simply are not known for being there. You constantly travel the realm and beyond. (Double travel speed. Fiefs give 25% less income)
Duelist – Master of the blade, your greatest joy is battling people in duels. (Rolls for duels gain +2)

Items:
Dwarf Forged Sword – The water marks on the blade show it was folded numerous times and is incredibly strong. (Skill +3)
Bio:
Born in the small village of Stonetree seven miles north of Uath, Liv is the only child of Magnus Skaerind, once known as the Red Wolf, who abandoned the life recanted in a dozen songs for a quiet, anonymous existence as a farmer, presumed by all to have finally fallen in his hundredth battle (famously described in the song The Red Wolf’s Poacher, a complete fabrication largely accepted as truth). As far as the village was concerned Liv had always been different: her hair was as white as new-fallen snow in a land where such a thing was considered close to the occult. Though her father did not spite her for it, her mother treated her as something of an embarrassment. As such Liv might have led a lonely and bitter childhood if not for the fact that she was boisterous and combative by nature, often picking fights with those fool enough to taunt her appearance. Boys learnt not the mess with the ‘White Demon’ lest they desired bruises, broken bones and public humiliation. Despite her status as a social outcast – or perhaps in spite of it – Liv had a bright and cheerful personality, and those who did not partake in her persecution usually thought highly of her. One such person was Erik Morhar, the butcher’s boy, who was her around her age. They became fast friends shortly after becoming acquainted.

Like many in Jorwick Liv emphasized strongly with the martial values of her warlike culture, holding a fondness for songs and tales of battles fought and warriors long dead. When she discovered her father’s true identity at age ten she begged him to teach her how to fight … which he emphatically refused, claiming to have seen and spilled too much blood in his lifetime to ever teach his beloved child the arts of death and war. Angry and hurt, near every night for the next six years Liv would take her father’s dwarf-forged sword from its hiding place to practice silently in the field of mayflowers outside, yearning for the days when she would no longer have to play pretend and her name would rest on the lips of a thousand singers and poets across the kingdom. In time Erik became her companion in these nightly excursions and together they sought to improve their skills with the clumsy perseverance of youth and ambition. By day Liv shirked her chores and chafed under the presence of her mother, but by night she dreamed – in more ways than one.

When Liv was fifteen her parents sat her down and informed her that she was to be married. As she had no brothers who could help out Magnus in the fields, her mother told her, it was necessary to marry her off as soon as possible in order to reduce the strain on the household income. Besides, the baker’s son was a handsome, strapping young lad and, fortunately, more than willing to overlook her ‘defect’. It would be a good match; one she would grow to appreciate in time. Predictably Liv refused, professing her desire to become a warrior, to which her father replied that such was a foolish dream, the flitting fancy of a young girl without a thought in her pretty head. When she revealed her late-night sparring sessions as vindication, he grew angry and forbid her from continuing it any longer. The following argument was born from years of resentment and shattered the uneasy calm of the last few years, severing the tie between Liv and her parents, one aloof and one unloving. Liv left before dawn the next day with nothing but the clothes on her back, some food stolen from the kitchen and her father’s sword – he wouldn’t need it anyway, she reasoned, not without spite. Erik accompanied her, taking a fancy to the life of adventure she promised him and despising the dull future that surely awaited.

Over the next five years the two of them traveled far and wide in search of glory and adventure, but to their dismay such things proved far more elusive than anticipated. Turning to gambling, dueling and an assortment of odd jobs just to make ends meet, the two exist in a perpetual state of wandering poverty. Nevertheless, Liv has become a more proficient swordfighter since setting out from her village and remains determined in her quest for immortality in the minds of men. Whether such a thing is more foolhardy than ambitious remains to be seen.

A message is sent to the council of nobles announcing that as the Duke of Ogac already laid aside his vote, and has more pressing issues at home such as combatting starvation and surveying Aoric, he will not be returning to the Council. The message confirms that about 300 villagers in Aoric were slain indiscriminately, almost 2/3 of the Barony's population. It agrees with the statement that Count Raida is to blame.

Message to Duke Pierre Frudan of Ogac
Honorable Duke,

Whilst I pray for the lives of the dead, I don't see the need to throw such wild accusations as we only have one man words on it. Even though this man is a baron and most honorable, he could have had a mental breakdown seeing so many of his subjects murdered by a wile evil. I am not saying the good baron of Aoric is lying, but that he might have seen things in bad dreams and believed them as true.
But you are correct in that no non-Dalish army has marched through my lands and if they have, heads are going to roll as someone needs to pay the price for marching into my lands with an army.
I am most concerned that one of my vassals might be involved in this massacre of innocents and I will personally see to this matter. That you wish to move a "sizeable" army near my borders do concern me, but I hope that you are true to your words. Whilst I will look into the matter I am sure that my vassal is not part of this monstrous deed and I hope we soon can put this matter to rest.

To Baron Arthur Du Lenoria

I apologize for the lack of response; I have, as you pointed out, been preoccupied with a lack of food. In terms of what we can offer each other I am unsure. Ghaile is rather mountainous, so perhaps you are in need of resources, while I need food. Currently I earn an estimated 1550 Resources a season with only a paltry 268 food. While this is a much better improvement than the starvation previously suffered we only will have 288 during the harsh winter months. Perhaps you could spare some food in exchange for some of our resources? The current stockpile is 2820. In a time where so many seem to be preparing for war it is vital to do such inter ducal treaties, to show unity in the nation.

Now with that droll business out of the way I believe my move is knight's pawn to b3.

I cordially invite you to this year's sacred time festival. The festivities shall take place in the last two weeks of the year when our realm and that of the gods are closest (OOC this is a cultural belief in Kusma and not necessarily canon to the world). There shall be much feasting involved, friendly competitions and most importantly time for personal communion with the gods. I hope you are all able to make it to this auspicious event.

Kind regards,
Count Elmal of House Orlanth

Such a warm light.
It was like the morning dew, like the soft and refreshing breeze coming after the rain.
It was something that filled the very soul with a sentiment brimming with joy. It was something beyond words. It was supreme.

She looked at the creatures surrounding her, curious and expectant but also happy and lively.
Somehow her armor was gone along with her clothes. She casted away any fears, fascinated by what surrounded her and extended her hands, trying to cuddle the light. Like a mother caring for her dearest child.
It was then when she took notice of the changes.

Her hands seemed as frail and sleek as always, but they were younger and their pulse was firm. No shaking and no coughing assailed her every move. Young and beautiful as she was in her past. She felt the softness of her long and golden hair, long gone since her husband's death.
Her most beloved Earl, so chivalrous and honourable always believed in the common good. Their family always followed the wisdom of their ancestors, seeking signs across plains and skies. The fly of the falcon, the jogging of the horse, the crackle of the flames...

They endeavoured for centuries to appease the commoners, to show them how this world and the other will always be intertwined. For centuries they refused.
The curch of men and their God blinded them to the truth of the world's nature, the nobles keeping them illiterated and ignorant, subservient to a system that enslave their will and starve them.

Suddenly, the light began to withdraw, like the last image casted by a dream... fading moments before waking up to reality. And with it, the creatures returned to the forest.

It has all been for nothing.
Atyrau was dead and her unborn child left this world the same day. Her body was scarred and weakened.
The Esenaysh have failed not only to themselves, but to their people and this realm. But the world itself have failed to them too.
Mankind was flawed, deeply and hopelessly imperfect. It revels in its own misery, waging war and spreading disease everywhere it reaches.

Magic could have fed the people of the realm. Magic could have protected the realm from the invaders across the sea. Magic could have prevented Atyrau's death. Magic could have saved her child. Magic could have...

... Magic shall reign again.

Comtesse Chiril Enkhtuyaa Esenaysh, got up from the ground with great effort. Her hair was gone once more, the shakiness and the fever her constant companions.
She looked one last time to the emptiness of the forest glade and then she took the path to her castle.

The Count of Dair was in the study he had placed aside in the Royal Palace for his personal use during the Council of Nobles. He was sitting at a well made oaken desk, papers of varying origins having piled up at his left and right. He was waiting for Count Aven Morvand to knock on the door, but until this would occur, he had work to do.

A knock sounded on the door, the sound of metal on wood. The guard outside his study opened the door and the Count of Urus was let in. The Count of Dair stood up.

Wilhelm: “Count Aven, I thank you to have made the time to see me.”

Aven: “I thank you for your invitation.” As a curious person, Aven took a quick look around the study “This study of yours is most gorgeous.”

Wilhelm: “Your appreciation should go to the previous King, Celariel IV. He was the one who made this study available to me while we were discussing a deal a few months ago.” A sad smile appeared on his lips “But please, take a seat” The Count of Dair motioned towards a seating area, composed of two beautiful seats and a sofa around a small table.

Aven walked to the seating area, and sat down in the big sofa. Aven tried to think of a topic to speak about “The Council was most interesting, right? It is a shame that you didn’t become the new King.”

Wilhelm: “Such is the realm of fickle politics.” he rubbed his eyes to make the tiredness go away “My outburst with the guards, while I had hoped it would calm the Council, seems to have cost me a good amount of support. And Caeris...” The Count seemed at a loss for words for a few instants “I don’t know what to think about her anymore...”

Aven: “You are talking of the Princess? I think the accusations are just plain stupid. Why would our good Princess ever be a cultist?”

Wilhelm: “I don’t know, but she’s always held a strong desire. I remember her gazes at the throne back when we were younger, she used to climb unto it whenever she could. I thought it was merely a childish wish to get closer to her father, a way of connection. Those accusations… They make me think, and although I wish it didn’t, many pieces fit.”

Aven: “So, you think she might be a cultist?” It was uncomfortable for Aven to talk about cultists.

Wilhelm “I’m not sure that she would be a cultist, sure she’s had an interest in the occult and would ask me and her siblings weird questions, but nothing too bad. It’s the accusations of murder that scare me, because I can’t find a good explanation, and yet I can’t bear to imagine her doing such an act.”

Aven: “We cannot be sure that the accusations are true at all. I am sure my Duke just made them up.”

Wilhelm: “If your Duke made those accusations without proof, he could be sentenced to a hefty fine. False information in a time when the Realm should focus on the truth would be a dangerous thing to do. And I know he himself had no special interest in this election, my informants have searched this. These accusations would not benefit him, and that leaves two options: He wishes that the Realm tears itself apart by attacking the Royal Family with such accusations, or his accusations are true. I hope it is the former...”

Aven: “So you think he might be right? That your cousin is actually a cultist and even worse, a kinslayer? That would be horrible...”

Wilhelm: “If those accusations are true… even her position as a Royal Princess wouldn’t save her. She’d be executed… I don’t know what to think about her anymore. I’ll have to wait until your Duke’s accusations are either confirmed, or proved false. I sincerely wish, and pray to Cahoul, that she isn’t guilty.”

Aven: “I wish too that the accusations are false… Is there going to be a trial on this case? I mean how else could we prove that she is not a kinslayer?”

Wilhelm: “Those accusations are too severe to be dropped. There is no doubt that an investigation will be mounted, followed by a trial on the assembled evidence. As someone who has spent years with her, I’ll be questioned, and so will Prince Aurigian, my mother, and the Queen Dowager. Hells, the whole court will be questioned!”

Aven: “We can only hope that we can prove my Duke’s accusations to be false...“ Aven was quiet for a couple of seconds “Maybe we should forget these accusations for a while? Maybe like, get drinks?”

Wilhelm lifted his head from his hands “Yes, that would be for the best.” He drew out a small bell from one of his pockets and rang it. A servant entered soon afterwards. “Jakob, I’d like you to bring me one of the wines we brought on our way here, and my guest would have?”

Aven thought for some time “I could also take that wine, thank you.”

Wilhelm nodded to his servant who, after a bow, exited the room “He will bring the bottle shortly. Now, if you’ll permit it, I am curious about your county. I have heard some… interesting rumours on the religious inclinations of some of your people.”

Aven: “What rumors have you heard, may I ask?”

Wilhelm: “I have heard that some of your people assemble in the woods, and worship a secret deity, and some rumours point towards your own family as the ringleaders of that faith.”

Aven became paler “Yeah… I have also heard of those gatherings, but you can be sure my family has nothing to do with them...”

Wilhelm’s face turned to an expression of regret “A shame, I had hoped to hear about more beliefs. You should understand that while I am no religious deviant from Clawrasy, I hold a scholarly interest in the various beliefs of Doumore.”

Aven: “I could tell you couple of things I have heard of the little religion that exists in the woods of my County... I think the most important thing to know is that they believe in this Goddess called Dia. She is the protector of the world and she was born from a sapling. They say after that she was born, she created the world, piece by piece…”

Wilhelm: “Ahh, another nature based belief. I find them most instructive in our own relationship with the world. And this… Dia, was born from a sapling, so that must mean a deeper connection with the trees, maybe a deviance of Yggdrasil, the World Tree as the old Jorwickers believed? hmm… Oh, excuse me, I lost myself in my thoughts.” The door opened and the servant had brought a bottle of wine and two glasses. “Thank you Jakob. Shall we drink?” He lifted a glass of wine up.

Aven also lifted his glass and drank a little “So, could you tell me little about your County? I know almost nothing of it or its culture and people.”

Wilhelm drank a little from his glass “Dair was established on one of the first landing points humanity made when Cahoul led the invasion and conquered Doumore. But the people who first established the settlement later left for the Dale, as such that the current inhabitants of Dair are from the 3rd wave of humans who came to Doumore. Despite this, we von Blutvrie proudly maintained our identity as being from the first wave, having fought alongside Cahoul against the Fae Kingdom. Dair itself was badly ravaged by the recent invasion. The farms were trampled, the orchards cut, and a couple of docks were shattered. We saved most of the cattle luckily, but it cost us many men. The people themselves are still quite hunched, some are unsure if we’ve seen the last of the invaders, and I am part of that minority.”

Aven: “The invaders… Your County has had bad luck with them. Luckily they didn’t reach my County, but many of my men had to go fight against them… I hope they don’t ever come back.”

Wilhelm drank a bit more from his glass “I hope so too, but they came from a nation that could spare such an invasion force and send it to our shores. I wouldn’t doubt it that they could do so again. Our objective would be to find their origin, and rebuild the nation. If they are to come back, we must be ready.”

“Yup” Aven drank little bit more of his wine ”Sadly many of the towns are still poor and cannot develop that quickly. For example my vassal’s town had so bad shortage of resources and food that I had to give him a lot of resources so he could build a simple farm so the town wouldn’t starve to death. Hard times…” Aven finished his drink.

Wilhelm: “Naturally, this isn’t some project for within this year. No, this is a plan for the following century. We find ourselves at a crossroads, one where we have the option to accept that our Realm is nowhere close to be able to push back another invasion, or to ignore it and pretend it never occurred and go back to the game of politics. If we concentrate our efforts. Within a century, Doumore will be able to repel such an invasion with ease, or even expand for the first time since the end of the Crusades. My network of informants and their reports have led me to this conclusion. What we no longer need are interior squabbles. Should we be united to face the future, Doumore could begin a new Age, a period where we could advance our knowledge and improve the Realm. Since the Crusades ended centuries ago, Doumore has barely changed, our communications with outside realms have dried up, and we have isolated ourselves from the world. All of this must change, soon, or the next crisis will leave us shattered.”

Aven pours himself more wine “Wise words. You have really thought about the future of our Kingdom. You would have been good King for sure.”

Wilhelm shook his head “No, in order to unify the Realm and prevent interior squabbles would require a ruler with an iron hand. The nobles would have to be forced to see the situation, it would require oppression. In a way, I am glad that I was not elected. I will not be remembered for having been a ruler who tried to impose order in order to direct the Realm in a direction many would not want.”

Aven: “Many of our Kingdom’s nobility don’t really see the situation. I’m sure they would start rebelling right away if we got a King tried to make radical reforms for the Kingdom’s best. They just want to rule their land, and doesn’t really care about the whole Kingdom as whole.” Aven drank more of his wine.

Wilhelm took another sip of his glass “But that complacency is what is tearing this Realm apart. The World does not wait for anyone, and we must strive to exceed the other realms lest a superior nation lands on our shores and tears us apart. We were lucky the invaders weren’t superior to us, and that luck will not last if we do not make an effort to advance.”

Aven already finished his second glass, and took more wine “But how can we advance with the development of our Kingdom when most of the nobles are, as we have already stated, self-complacent.”

Wilhelm made a smirk and took another sip of his glass “That is where we must lead by example. The nobles are obsessed with wanting to not be inferior to the other nobles. Should we start to lead a great development, the others will follow in our steps, propelled forward by their own stubbornness and pride.”

Aven: “For my county to quickly develop, I’d need way more resources than I have. We cannot really develop our counties a lot…” Aven drank the third glass rather quickly, but he still took new glass. “Also I am sure that other nobles are making their own improvements to their counties already, so we wouldn’t be that superior even after many years.”

Wilhelm: “That is why this is a project for the following century. What we will be laying today will be the first stones of the foundations. Within a decade, the foundations will be placed if we have planned it correctly. Civil War is already brewing with the raiding of that barony in Ogac. The eyes of the Realm will be on their neighbours, serving their rivalries and fighting each other. I intend to stay out of those conflicts directly. Those battles will bring devastation to their territories, which means that they will later need to spend their forces to rebuild them. While they will be warring, we will be building.”

Aven: “That sounds good. War doesn’t help as at all. We better stay out of all possible crises. And if somebody is to attack me, I have big group of men-at-arms to defend my land!” Aven drank his fourth glass.

Wilhelm: “I wouldn’t agree that war is a straight negative. It is quite bad for the one that is attacked, but depending on the objectives of the attacker, warring can be quite profitable. But yes, having a substantial garrison to deter such assaults will be necessary, should others try to attack us.” He took another sip of his glass, finally ending it.

Aven: “Sadly the men-at-arms have high maintenance. My county needs more food than I produce. Luckily I have the resources to build some orchards or something. And oh yeah, I have my new Steward who will help me with the buildings.” Aven was getting little bit out of the topic, but he once again, took a new glass of wine.

Wilhelm poured himself a second glass “Worry not, I am expanding my own production of food. Soon enough, I will be able to supply you with food for a cheap price. But men-at-arms have their uses, in fact, they are deadly on the battlefield.” The Count of Dair looked at his guest, who had indulged himself in drink during their conversation “Tell me, how are you feeling at the moment?”

Aven: “How am I feeling? Good, thanks.” He drank more of his wine “I have enjoyed our conversation. But why do you ask?”

The Count of Dair smiled “Oh, for no reason, it simply pleases me that my guest is enjoying the wine I provided,” he took a sip of his glass “After all, your own territories, while they must be interesting, do not produce grapes.”

Aven: “Yeah, they do not produce any grapes, or wine… Having some wine production would actually be nice to have, but I am not sure if grapes would grow in my County’s area.” Aven did again finish his glass of wine, and once again he took a new one.

The Count of Dair smirked at his guest “Tell me, Dear Count, you haven’t told me about your relationship with the Cult of Dia.” he took a second sip of his second glass.

Aven: “Relationship with the Cult of Dia? I have good relations with the cult.” Aven stopped. What was he talking? He might reveal his secret, but he felt kinda strange. Maybe he could trust Wilhelm enough to tell. “You know, as I am the leader of the cult.” Aven took more of the wine.

The Count of Dair smiled at Aven Morvand “Thank you for clarifying this point, my friend. Now I’m sure you wish to speak for longer, but I have a few other matters that require my attention. Are you still in good enough shape to regain your chambers?”

Aven: “I think I am. It was nice to talk to you my friend.” Aven finished his last glass and stood up.

The Count of Dair led him to the door “Oh please, it was my pleasure to have you here. We shall see us again in the morrow at the Council.”

Aven: “Yup!” Aven hugged Wilhelm and then went towards his chambers…

The Count of Dair looked at his guest as he went down the hall, satisfied of his evening. Jakob entered the room “Please seal the bottle again, I’ll finish my glass but won’t have more. Could you also bring me dinner, I have a feeling that I will have to relay some instructions to the intelligence network.” The servant bowed, took the bottle, and left the study, leaving the Count of Dair back to his work, a smirk on his face.

Dear Baron:
I now can tell a cargo of food from my stockpiles shall be sent to your fief in short order to ensure supplies till the agricultural situation can be improved. As long as I see it, we peers of the realm, are bound to help each other in benefit of ourselves and our peoples. And it is our responsability to do so according to the laws of nobility and politics, instead of petty trade. For we are not traders, but leaders of men, and our gods demand from us the solution of the people's problems. I know you are a man of honour, and for me will be enough reward to know I've helped you against such threat.

That said, I hope you don't feel threatened, but... King's Bishop (E-7) to H-4

Dear Baron Du Lenoria

I thank you for your passionate words. If it is pleasing to you I would like to send men with 1000 resources to your fiefdom this winter (([I know my last letters said it wasn't yet but technically it is as last turn covered Autumn. We'll just assume it's still early winter so no snow yet XD.])). In exchange for 1000 food. This will not be a permanent trade deal, simply a one time exchange. Practice if you like, to see how are fiefdoms can manage such logistical strains. Let me know if you have nay counter offer. ((The NPC will spend the acumen order on it)).

((Lol just realized I miss counted how far the knight can move XD This is what I originally meant to do.))
