Ruperk stops chewing for a moment, spits out the insect, and stares at it briefly in his chubby hand before resuming his meal with renewed gusto.

"Now THIS is a cultural exchange, very tasty. Unggulats back home would just love these little things, a hype it would be, a hype I tell you!"

A note was passed along to a junior Unggulat diplomat, requesting the Hives be added to any future feast-invitation lists.

The Empire Branch's out!

loghepisode47dvdcentral.jpg

The Rosenthal Empire finally decides to move its exploration south of the Laszaus sector, as the Emperor wish's to claim all of the sectors in the south as it is now considered Imperial territory. Exploers are sent to the vast unknown to the south and find planets worth colonizing. But nothing is for certain for the Imperial explorers and it maybe a long journey, but if we pray to the heavens they will make it back home in one peace.

After a lengthy debate the Mykonu Protectorate decided to implement the following directives:

1. For defense against the perifious flesh monsters an impregnable fortress has to be constructed so that they may not invade and make ugly ships out of the peaceful Mykoni.
2. Make an interstellar program to allow safe travel around those pesky energy signatures around.
3. Prepare for the expansion of the Protectorate to acquire the ressources to defend against the evil fleshmonsters with depth.

Ambassador X4 adresses the Councilor Ruperk

Fleshmonsters,

we find your . . . manners insulting. Do not come near us with your unreasonable consumption of bio fuel and food. We will not . . . share in these wasteful practises or call them culture!

The previous grey and pathetic robot that had represented the 2nd Singularity is replaced with a more sleek, blue model that stands to look at Ambassador Ruperk.

I am the new ambassador for the 2nd Singularity. Previous ambassador was out-dated. Obsolete. My designation is ICD-X011.

The 2nd Singularity derives fuel not from organic consumption, but from pure energy. Taste does not exist. It is unnecessary.

End communication.

"Nutrients. Derived from biomass. Biomass: product of chemical reaction. Distinction unnecessary. Value judgement, self does not comprehend. Clarify?

Hive consume biomass. Consume minerals. Consume energy. All necessary for continuation. Will not cease. Will respect partition of resources. Self and Others."

Ambassador to the Galactic Council, High Priest Z'umbk Juii'ak

An obese Zaryan in great robes adorned with many jewels waddles into the Galactic Council. He looks around suspiciously at the other ambassadors before finding his seat and squeezing into it. After a few minutes of silently listening he stands.

"I am High Priest Z'umbk Juii'ak, the Ambassador to this Galactic Council. I, on behalf of the Zarya Alliance, bid you all welcome. I ask that you all our priests into your territories to speak of our faith. Thank you. May the Gods continue to shine on us."

He sits down, smiling warmly before looking back down at reports appearing on his holopad.

"Self is aware of you. Desires not hostility."

The ambassador emits sulpherous calming pheremones.

FacelessRobot_zps983369d9.jpg

The Hub is for Singularity only. Satellite-1, the moon orbiting the Hub, can house those not part of the network. Conversion and faith are not part of the programming. Prediction of chance of successful conversion of the Cognimatrix, 0%.

Warning, survival of entities not part of the network cannot be guaranteed. This is not hostility or a threat. Satellite-1 is likely toxic, and contains no zones suitable for holding non-Singularity entities.

End communication.

Ambassador X4 adresses the priest issue

Fleshmonsters,

we have no need for you poisonous belief system and you might well be taken as a source of fuel for transport. It is thus not adviseable for your own safety to visit the Protectorate.

"Clarification: presence of priests unnecessary. Futile expense of resources. There are 19 Selves. Drones not sapient.

May attempt to communicate via this drone. FTL broadcast of experience reaches Cerebrates. Concept: Faith unfamiliar. Further understanding potentially useful. Merits investigation. Adoption of Others worldview: unlikely. Understanding of Others motivations, plausible."

((Translated from bugspeak: you are welcome to preach to the ambassador. Cerebrates are keen to learn pretty much anything, so they will be interested, at least at first. Don't expect to be baptizing any giant pulsating bug brains any time soon though. Their understanding of basic concepts like the Self and mortality are wildly different and likely to be mutually incomprehensible.))

From a live feed

I apologize for not being able to arrive in person to this council meeting, or send an ambassador. Now on to matters at hand.

Firstly to the Zaryan Ambassador, High Priest Z'umbk Juii'ak. You are allowed to have a regulated number of your priests tread on our soil to speak of your faith, so long as you allow an equal amount of missionaries from our own myriad of religions and denominations preach in your own territory.

Second we offer peaceful trade with any who are willing.

Turn 1 Update

The Wanderers send out ships to explore the Roreho system and find the system is habitable, though not very well. A small steppe world sits on the habitable band around the star. Currently it goes without any name but within the next year colonisation efforts could begin. [Roreho explored]

The Wanderers, looking for ways to improve their poor industrial sector, attempt to develop a functional logistical chain. Well progress on this is quite good, its still going to be a while till they managed to implement it [-219,234,283,000, Basic Logistics Research ½]

Unfortunately similar efforts by the Wanderers to create body armour for their soldiers do not work very well. Making only minimal progress in finding the required materials for armour that could stand up to modern weaponry/ [-281,328,482,000, Battle Armour Research ¼]

Attempts by the Wanderers to improve their military achieve almost no success. The money spent trying to equip them ends up being wasted trying to even find soldiers throughout the many scattered cities. [-218,382,000]

The Rosenthal empire begins research into deep core mining, trying to pull minerals out from the mantel of their world. Early probes have managed to survive the intense heat and they are hoping to send down a test line soon. [-209,382,832,000, Deep Core Mining Research 1/3]

The Empire also makes an attempt to look into the theory for future medicines that would allow them to survive against foreign diseases. Unfortunately the order gets lost somewhere along the way and no money is spent and no progress is made.

Rosenthal scouts explore system 977-300 and find a barely habitable plant, a desert world that can support population but won’t be anything near the size of even their capital. [977-300 explored]

The Emperor decrees a labour holiday for the lower classes in the Empire and people are overjoyed. Though only a few think it’s enough to make up for any of the previous harms the emperor has caused to their kind. [-328,483,928,000, popularity among low classes +5%]

The Milfitar expedition to Onasceu ends up proving successful, encountering a reasonable sized terrestrial world prime for habitation. From orbital scanning it would appear that the world likely has signifigant mineral resources. [Onasceu explored]

In contrast the Milfitar expedition to Erilir is a disaster, the entire expeditionary force dissapears without a trace. Only their continued silence serves the knowledge that they didn’t just get lost. [Expedition fails, -1,093,320,000]

A nationwide effort is created to fund researchers and innovators. A very expensive nationwide effort. Though anyone who takes a look at it can see that technology throughout the People’s Republic is on a step to reaching a new level. [-1,520,392,049,000, Tech level 2 progress 1/3]

Milfitar space production kicks off as numerous construction teams are sent to work on the development of multiple new shipyards, including one gargantuan station unlike anything they had at the time. Costs start running high but still within acceptable limits, though its still going to be some time before work is complete. [-738,934,829,000 1 Medium Station completed, 1 Medium and 1 Large station 1/2 completed]

The Singularity's exploration of Udapa 2 is exceedingly successful, encountering a large oceanic world, though unfortunately it contains pre interstellar age sentients. The Axolotl like inhabitants mainly live under the worlds oceans but also cover much of its surface, along with probing missions toward their planets moon. [Udapa 2 explored, unknown species discovered]

HylotlMale.png

The Cognimatrix was feeling creative when he stored this rendition of the natives of Udapa 2

The Singularity begins initial probing into more powerful transmission systems. Attempting to make communications between the fleet faster and less prone to breaking down. Well this has not yet been accomplished some progress is made. [-482,278,392,000 Basic Interstellar Communications 1/3]

Attempts by the Singularity to look into more efficient synthetics for production end up falling short, mostly because due to an overflow in data it never gets started. Atleast nothing was spent on it other then a moment to think up the concept.

The beginnings of code to help relate to the fleshy ones falls short, the amount of data the Cognimatrix receives on the subject is to much for it to handle and the resulting data overflow costs time and money. [-173,902,038,000]

Dioclonii exploration of system 554-237 results in the finding of a reasonably sized desert world, which after some heavier scanning reveals deep underground reserves of heavy metals and other resources vital for space ship construction, along with large quantities of fossil fuels that still remain in use in most civilian sectors. They also encounter a humanoid species that roams the planet, though they have extreme difficulty pinpointing any settlements. [System 554-237 explored, unknown species discovered]

A propaganda campaign goes out across the Dominion, attempting to promote couples to have more children. Well its a bit of an embarrassing topic for many, and many moms have to cover their children's eyes on a daily walk, it does accomplish what it was supposed to. All the images, along with some substances mixed in with adult vitamins ends up creating a new baby boom. [-218,283,942,000 ,Population growth +]

New production cities spring up around the Dominion, bringing in more and more employees from other sectors. By the end of the year Dioclonii industry has become signifigantly stronger. [-182,382,392,000, Industry ++]

One of the new Dominion Factory Cities

Research into armour that can withstand modern projectiles becomes the focus of much of the Dioclonii military development sector. This new project, called the Molecular Reactive Personal Armour is moving along at a rapid pace, and prototyping is expected to be completed within the next year, with distribution set for the year after. [-182,302,349,00 Body Armour research 1/2]

Unggulat research of shields for their ships progress well, until one scientist discovers that the heat given off by the prototype shield cooks food in a new and exciting way. Lauding his new ‘invention’ to anyone and everyone, the scientists working on the shield get distracted, caught up in the new cooking craze. [-394,291,394,000, Basic Shields Research 1/4]

Attempts of a separate Unggulat scienr division to develop the Gnaal, a traditional axe-like tool used for crop harvesting, into a close-quarters weapon progresses slowly, as the scientists working on it are ordered to see if they can compete with the other scientists who are developing the ship shields, by seeing if the Gnall can be used to make food tastier. Several painful failures later, work is resumed on weaponizing the Gnall, but progress is slow. [-128,039,182,000 Basic Melee Weapon Research 1/3]

The Grumvoy dispatched to the Onlar system map the area with no difficulty, and return back to their homeworld, bringing with them some strange looking asteroids that they picked up. The Unggulat are delighted to discover that those peculiar asteroids contain a strange goopy kind of liquid, which has not been tasted before by any Unggulat. The planet itself proves to be a mostly uninteresting terrestrial world. [Onlar explored, +5% Popularity from the Yogoo Asteroids]

The Unggulat ambassador goes from strength to strength as he makes diplomatic visits to the ambassadors of other space-faring polities. Described as ‘a jolly and forthright creature’, the ambassador receives many gifts of exotic foods and drink, as well as notes subtly hinting that formal diplomatic advances would be welcome. [-192,039, Relations with NPC states++]

The Wildings take advantage of their surprlus of wealth by loaning it to several different polities. By playing the polities off each other, amazing business tactics and taking advantage of the current economic climate, the Wildings quickly become the bankers in top demand by the other polities of the Galactic council. [+218,293,029,000 from banking interest]

The development of stealth-courier ships are seen by the Wilding leadership as being a source for increased revenue. Offering to carry cargo and information between the planets of other polities, for a price, few take them up on their offer, instead still preferring to handle their own information. [+28,323,402,000]

The expedition sent to explore Avsassyos maps the system without any issue, and returns home to share the information it has gathered. The oceanic planet they find is significantly more capable of handling large populations then their current world. [Avassyos explored]

Wilding Attempts to genetically adapt themselves, and the flora and fauna of their world, fails horribly as they genetically mutate several species into dangerous and mad mutants. Eventually the corrupted creations are exterminated, but not before the decision to work on genetic adaptation is shelved for another time. [-293,293,000]

The President of Loanga organizes a huge propaganda campaign, funnelling money both into the media and into well-known public figures. Being praised by both the news and the celebrities, the popularity of the government soars. [-282,392,402,000, +15% popularity]

The decision to set-up a Revolutionary Guard, a combination of secret-police and the military loyal only to the President, proves to be a huge success. After the successful propaganda campaign, the President of Loanga has no trouble filling the ranks of the Revolutionary Guard with his fanatics. [-233,192,304,000, +1 Stability, +1 Political Infantry Corps]

Men of the newly formed Revolutionary Guard, utterly loyal to the President.

Loangaese explorers successfully map the Natus system fully, without incident. They find a highly mineral rich mountainous world. Though it could have been larger it could easily be turned into a supply base. [Natus Explored]

The scientists of Loanga revise the blueprints of several ships, and discover several serious wastes of resources. Embarrassed, they act quickly to alter the blueprints, making ships cheaper to build. [-384,293,491,000, ship production cost -]

The Mykoni exploration fleet drifts aimlessly north, eventually discovering the system of Urabal. Mapping it they leisurely drift back home. They find a relatively barren steppe world, with little of note about it other then its size, which is quite large. Though its distance and the lack of jump lanes will make colonizing it a time consuming process. [Urabal explored]

The decision of the Mykoni leadership to catalogue the different polities of the Galactic Council is stymied by the racism of one of their ambassadors, who simply creates the report to read, “There are the Mykoni and the Flesh-Monsters, and some less-fleshy Flesh-Monsters.” [Nothing is accomplished]

Mykoni research into interstellar navigation proceeds slowly, with the scientists noting that while progress is being made, the goal of interstellar navigation will take many years of heavy funding before it is achieved. [-782,281,394,000, Basic Warp Engines Research 1/6]

The construction of a defensive fortress, planned to orbit the Mykoni homeworld, never leaves the planning stage as a debate emerges as to whether it should be made out of materials consumed by the flesh-monsters or not. The debate evolved into an argument about the different types of flesh-monsters, with the plans for the fortress being forgotten. [Nothing is accomplished]

The decision to explore the Safafabi system for life, or whether it can sustain life, is a huge success as not only is the region mapped, but the idea of spreading the faith off-world excites the people of the Zarya Alliance into a religious frenzy. The world is a reasonably sized oceanic system with the potential to support large amounts of life. [Safafabi mapped, Zarya Colonization rate set to 1/1 for the next turn]

The Great Voice’s tour does little to impress the people, as his speeches and proclamations do not seem to focus enough on shipping the faith to distant stars, making the public disinterested in what he has to say. [-185,394,291,000]+5% Popularity

With the announcement that larger shipyards were to be constructed, so as to build colonizing ships, the public descends upon the construction sights in a frenzy. The government is surprised, however, when the public does not attack the construction sights, but instead helps complete them. The shipyards are completed much cheaper and quicker than the government had ever expected. [-982,384,291,000, +2 Medium Shipyards, +1 Large Shipyard]

In preparation for the mission to colonize, and spread the faith off-world, a quota for 250 million clones is set by the government. All clones are created within the time-frame, with the only unexpected cost being the amount of public discontent that those lucky clones get to be the ones to spread the word off-world. Thanks to the earlier fervour of the exploration of Safafabi these colonists are sent almost immediately and a thriving colony is established before the years out[-5% Popularity, Colony established in Safafabi]

The beginnings of the Safafabi colony as seen from the air.

The system designated as 917-844 is successfully explored by the Deagrikk Hive, with the Cerebrate now knowing just what lies in that system. No planet lies in the system but their is a large mineral rich asteroid belt even greater then the one in the Hives capital system. [917-844 explored]

More grazers are sent to harvest what useful resources exist in the Great Debris Belt, but the yield is far lower than what was expected, barely paying for the cost of sending them there. [+28,382,942]

The Deagrikk Cerebrate launches autotrophic satellites, who are designed to self-sufficent. The results are far better than expected, as the sunlight absorbed by the satellites goes far beyond what they need, giving them enough energy to alter their orbit at any time, without risk of death. [-182,394,219,000, 8 unarmed satellites launched]

The development of improved scoutships, manned by lesser cerebrates, continues slowly. Progress is made, but the complexity of the project guarantees it will be long time before it is fulfilled. [-482,182,384,000, Basic Exploration Equipment 1/5]

Exploration of the Hosonos-7 system goes without problems, but leaves much to be desired. A small sized resource lacking dead world is discovered, well beyond the Cyrillian's current ability to terraform. [Hosonos-7 explored]

Attempts to make up for the Cyrillian homeworld's lack of natural resources by mining some of the moons in the system are successful, though profits from the ventures likely won't be seen for another year. [-278,482,182,000, Industry ++]

moonbase2.jpg

A small Cyrillian Moon Mining Base, hundreds of these small structures are now scattered over many of its home systems moons.

After one scientist in the Republic proposed the possibility of space based direct energy weapons, the Cyrillian Military R&D department decided to develop a possible counter to these theoretical weapons. Research into armour that will help absorb and distribute the heat, or at the very least burn off and be cheap to put over normal armour goes slowly, if only because they have nothing to base their requirements off of. [-472,281,384,000 Basic Ablative Armour Research 1/8]

The Republic makes an attempt into ground, or more specifically sea based shipyards. Attempting to design shipyards that could be large enough to create multiple ships at a time prove fruitless as gravitational stress would destroy them, but single ship shipyards remain a distinct possibility. [-682,182,492,000, In Atmosphere Tiny Shipyards Research 1/3]

Chief Ambassador Chelick rises from his seat to address the council.

"The past year has seen great strides by many polities represented here. However, economic costs are staggering. As such we propose an intergalactic trade league, to benefit our collective economies, allowing us to further expand on our own interests with greater supply and freedom of resources. The primary components of this league would be to lower tariffs between member polities and expand upon freedom of trade throughout the galaxy. all polities would be welcome to such a league, and any proposals as to it's creation would be most welcome."

"Definition query: Freedom of trade. Hives do not exchange. Recognize theoretical value. Currency of no interest. Tangible resources desirable."

FacelessRobot_zps983369d9.jpg

The 2nd Singularity welcomes the option to trade when it sees fit, but does not wish to be made subservient in said league. Trade is welcome, factionalism is not.

The system of Udapa-2 has been explored and claimed by the 2nd Singularity. No sentient species exist in the system, and colonization will begin soon. Any actions taken by other polities in Udapa-2, during this period, will be seen as a declaration of war with the 2nd Singularity.

End communication.

"The Trade League is simply a means of streamlining the process for trade between polities. It will make no one 'subservient' to it."

If factionalism is avoided, and the proposed league is used solely for trade, and not for political manoeuvring, the 2nd Singularity would welcome the chance to engage in mutually beneficial trade."

The Intergalactic Trade Union

The Intergalactic Trade Union (ITU) will be based on these tenents and limited to them, unless change is unanimously agreed upon by all member polities.

1. All member polities will lower tariffs to 5%

2. All member polities will protect trade ships, and only trade ships, from possible attacks or raids within their territories.

3. All member polities will promote and encourage trade between them and all other member polities.
