Hello friends!

It's been a while, but even during the summer break, we've been making some progress!

Today sees the release of Experimental Release 88, which brings the following improvements:
  • History changes - Sespech in the 15th century, titular duchy of Scornubel, Shargrailar the Dark, Surcross after the Spellplague, new NPCs in Waterdeep and Huzuz
  • Four new mamluk companies
  • New names in various human cultures
  • Optimisations - factions
  • Fixes - half-giant and half-ogre child portraits, demon lord bloodline, obsolete empires, and more
  • Tweaks - better loc for various things including bloodthirsty gods traits
We're also looking to recruit experienced event modders to help us as we look towards fleshing out the setting. If you're interested, come and join us on our Discord, and let's talk! (Link will expire in 30 days.)

As ever, enjoy the Realms with us!

Can you try the first page of this thread, there is a link there too.

I love the sacrifice aspect, too much maybe, but Toril is a world of physical godhood, thus sacrificing seems natural. Still going with my snow elven kingdom, and my story is, there were two kingdoms: that of Üyyal and Îsid and my Half-Celestial Snow Elf Äuguirgammon has recreated the two as one. In the Ice Spire upon the great lake was Îsid, and the mountains of Dareth were Üyyal. I reformed the Yuir faith to collapse at some point, and renamed the priesthood as the Cult of Äuguirgammon and Sabê (his daughter-wife). The faith rn is all about blood on the ice (so Pink Halls, the Pink Chantry is my colosseum) and I have plans to one day overtake those pesky Sossal & all of the Ice Lake with my cities so to make my own trade zones!
This has been awesome. My last game before I had to restart lasted 300 years, and this time, I'm not jumping to Empire until the faith feels right. Thank ya'll for the awesome experience! There is so little in the ways of lore on most of what I play, and its fun to have the room to make my own, AND have a game throughout!

Is the Spelljammer port worth building? The building stats don't appear to be worth 3000, by my read, but if there are sPeCiAl EvEnTs then I'm all in.

I don't think I've seen any events? but it's cool so i always do it

Those ports were kinda the first thing of a small system to represent planar travel. Some further progress was put on hold though by a dev last year because it wasn't working out for them. AFAIK, the ports will eventually let interesting characters come to your realm/court.

Right - both the Spelljammer Port and the Planar Portal are intended to occasionally bring wanderers of the appropriate cultures to your court. This had been intended as a direct enhancement of the existing racial diversity system, but as I continue to revise that system, my thought is more that a separate event for outworld travellers arriving might be better.

I want to occasionally have space pirates or space adventures or planar bandits or whatever occasionally negative modifier my port province and have to hire adventures or send in the army to kick them out or something?

It's time for another experimental release. And this one's a big one! Experimental Release 89h20 is now up on GitHub, and while the release notes are below, the main news is that this is a big update for people who like non-human OPMs, and the Baldur's Gate series. We have lots of playable BG characters, including Abdel and Sarevok during their appearances in BG1. We have many fixes for our existing BG3 characters, and more added. I'll be doing a separate post just to update our 'playable video game characters' list to reflect this release. And there are about a dozen new OPM realms, many of them duchies, with non-human holders. Because of the extensive map changes, this release breaks saves. Please be aware - the next experimental release will probably also break saves, this time due to trait changes.

So without further ado, the change log!

Bookmarks and Timeline:
  • The Bhaalspawn Crisis start date is now 2 Eleint 1368 instead of 1 Hammer in the same year. Additionally, both Sarevok Anchev and Abdel Adrian are playable as Dukes of Baldur's Gate in that date, and throughout the month of Eleint.
  • There are a quite few Baldur's Gate 3 spoilers scattered around, but most of them occur on or after the Toril Restored major bookmark.
  • The final possible start date is now 1 Hammer 1499. Note that starting after the 'Honor Among Thieves' bookmark may reveal spoilers for the movie.
  • The fall of Elturgard now happens in 1492, not 1494.
Map:
  • New provinces: Qarlondrar, Harheldur, Ahruukar, Raskuldin, Khaelud, Fireforges, Graskynar, Utuerth, Skurrukh, Moonrise, Cloak Bay, Wood of Sharp Teeth, Lake Weng, Amstelar, Wild Hills, and Green Shadows
  • Sage's Bay formally renamed to Crab Reach, and The Ruins to Selskar Vale
Titles:
  • New de jure duchy of Cloakwood, as well as lots of OPM de jure duchies for new dwarf realms
  • New titular duchies of Emerald Grove and Night Church
  • Various historic names updated
  • Female Grand Dukes of Baldur's Gate are now addressed correctly
History:
  • Full title histories for new titles, including the Night Church back to the time of Gorothir
  • Lots of new characters, including some more Baldur's Gate series ones, a notorious Calishite crime-lord, and a very special inhabitant of pre-Time-of-Troubles Waterdeep
Art:
  • New desktop icon for the mod
  • New icon for the 1479 major bookmark
  • New sympathy icons
  • Several elven clothing sets re-fitted to work better on humans and half-elves
Lore:
  • Culture descriptions for some cultures and groups; more to follow
  • FR Wiki links for the Snowsword dynasty
Flavour:
  • Illithids encountered when adventuring will now be psions
Optimisation:
  • Many factions
  • Many ambitions
  • All nicknames, both vanilla and mod-specific
  • All minor titles
Bugfixes:
  • Flind culture now has dynasties and retinues
  • Shargrailar the Dark now gets a better nickname as intended
  • A secret dragon's gender changes now take effect
  • Dwarf/half-dwarf reproduction now works as expected
  • Orcish religion now reluctantly allows matrilineal marriages
  • Yuir patrons decision should now only list valid choices
  • Far Realm fanatics will no longer be distracted by Asmadai rituals, even in theory
  • Many historical characters are now born and die at the right times
  • Many others
Have a wonderful time, and let us know how you get on!

ETA: Please use the hotfixed version, now linked above.

And as promised, an update to the playable CRPG characters post! All of this is going to be under a spoiler block, because there's some big reveals for Baldur's Gate 3 in here. All characters mentioned are from the Baldur's Gate series except where noted.
  • In addition to his playable appearance from 1457, Abdel Adrian is now playable as a Duke of Baldur's Gate throughout the month of Eleint 1368.
  • Sarevok Anchev is also playable as a Duke of Baldur's Gate in Eleint 1368.
  • Faldorn holds the duchy of the Shadow Druids from 1 Flamerule 1385 to 1 Hammer 1410.
  • Ketheric Thorm holds Moonrise from 1 Ches 1370 to 1 Flamerule 1391, and again from 1 Alturiak to 26 Nightal 1492.
  • Balthazar the necromancer holds Moonrise from 1 Flamerule 1391 to 1 Alturiak 1492.
  • Halsin holds Peldvale and the duchy of the Emerald Grove from 1 Hammer 1410 onwards.
  • Enver Gortash is playable as a Duke of Baldur's Gate from 1 Hammer 1490 to 1 Alturiak 1493, and he changes in various ways during his tenure.
  • Wyll Ravengard is the player heir of his father, Ulder Ravengard, who is Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate from 1 Mirtul 1485, except when deposed for a bit in 1492.
  • Reya Mantlemorn from Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms holds Skuldusk from 1 Alturiak 1492, and Elturel and the duchy of Elturgard from 1 Kythorn 1492.
  • Minthara Baenre holds Arylon from 1 Flamerule 1492 to 1 Hammer 1493.
  • Dame Aylin holds Moonrise from 26 Nightal 1492 onwards.
  • Kagha holds the duchy of the Shadow Druids from 1 Hammer 1495 onwards.
  • Viconia deVir isn't playable, but does hold the titular duchy of the Night Church from 30 Eleint 1484 onwards.
Enjoy!

Hotfix alert! We needed to make a fix, because Entar Silvershield being dead messed everything in Baldur's Gate up... here is the changelog:

  • Added Belt as interim Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate while Entar Silvershield is dead
  • Also added Belt as bookmark character
  • Also exonerated Abdel Adrian of the murder of Skie Silvershield
Just grab the hotfix, or load on Steam, and you'll be good to go.

I think he did it
As I understand it, this depends on player choices in the BG series that have no canon resolution. Abdel is already our most murderous character, with a kill list about twice as long as Szass Tam's. So I thought I would give him a (small) break while I was rooting around in the Silvershield family history.

This is a small and probably dorkballs suggestion, but one of the things about Faerun is you have all these noble lines and such floating around, and I was remembering in the GoT CKII mod that there was a mechanic that let you join a character you made in the character creator to what all established family. Is something like that possible here?

that feature took alot of work and was buggy, if you want this is easy to do by editing the save game.
