Bleeding them out is something Makif can ill afford. Bleeding them out means focusing a big chunk of his pittance of an IC on land warfare, when he should be churning out flattops, cruisers, and an airforce.

Getting bogged down in China means he can not strike Indochina/Singapore/India the month he declares war, and that is baaad.

Also, try to concentrate on their INF divisions. Wear them down, bomb them out, circle them in, whatever you must do. China has rather few INF (compared to the sea of MIL), and once you break those, its much, much easier.

I will complete the production of current infantry-motorized divisions in the production list but won't add any more land divisions to the list. I delayed the construction my carriers to produce more land divisions, but I have to re-start the construction to make them ready before December,1941. My plan was to construct at least 2 more carriers by that time but heavy resistance in China made this impossible. According to current situation, I will have 8 carriers by december 1941. I also need to build more fighters, more naval bombers more destroyers more cruisers in short more of everything.

Once I was planning to build 3 armor divisions but I have already left this plan.

my humble 100 IC ( in fact a little bit less than 100) is not match for 520 IC of USA. They are building a lot of warships right now while I am still trying to beat Chinese.

Hopefully the loss of industrial capacity will prevent the Chinese from reinforcing their divisions. Eventually, you'll bleed them out.

yes, my beginning in 1939 increased my faith in victory in 1940. Chinese hordes are suffering from lack of IC ( and hence reinforcement) and more importantly their TC situation is extremely bad due to the size of their massive army. They are reorganizing very slowly. I think that I will be able to crush them without the need of massive encirclements.

Imperial Conference, Tokyo

PM Senjuro : His Majesty and all dear attendants, we are closing towards victory in China. Our soldiers in China are sacrificing their lives for the glory of our Emreror and Japan. Since the beginning of our fight in 1937, we were always sure of our victory, we never lost our faith, not even for a moment. Now in 1939, our glorious armies are advancing deep in China in the name of our Emperor. But there are responsibilities that fight put on us at home. We lost many brave soldiers in this fight and we used all our reserves to either reinforce our divisions or to form completely new divisions. The task in China is huge and requires more sacrifices from our people. We run out of our reserves, without soldiers to fight, we can't continue to fight. Our people believed in victory and is ready to do whatever needed to achieve this aim. So, I propose the enactment of general mobilization all along Japan. We need to call more of our people to serve for the glory of our country. All able-bodied men who are thought as working at un-necessary jobs should be available for drafting.

Emperor Hirohito : Prime Minister, but wouldn't general mobilization increase unrest among our subjects ?

PM Senjuro : Yes, His Majesty, but this is something our people have to bear if we want victory of Empire of Japan. I as Prime Minister of Empire of Japan see no other way to win the war in China.

Emperor Hirohito : Well Prime Minister, then I approve your proposal. Our nation should show its ability to go through hardships for the greater good of our Empire.

Shocking news reached to the world from Moscow. Germany and Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact in Moscow today. Prior to the signing of agreement, Allied and Soviet diplomats were trying to reach an alliance against Germany. It seems that Germany offered more to Stalin.

m5Tna.jpg

I doubt that they will surrender in 1939, but it should be possible to beat them by 1940, unless the mountainous terrains prevents you from advancing further.

yes, I can't beat them this year. If I can defeat them by 1940, that would be good. I want to spend 1941 by arranging my troops for operations in the Phillipines, Singapore, Dutch Indies and Pacific Islands. If the war in China continues into 1941, this will seriously disrupt my plans.

Go Japan, kick some ass!

Good job with the encirclement. When I first saw the situation at Ji'an, I thought "I hope he attempts a great southern encirclement using the salient as a springboard." And you did exactly what I would have done ;)

Now, 30 divisions is a lot. The Chinese will have to redeploy troops to strengthen the front in the South, which should allow you to steadily advance towards the remaining industrial regions of China and finish it once and for all.

That's about 30 divisions. The Chinese don't have the means to replace such losses. They are not dead yet, though, so you need to capture more provinces.

Their org went down to zero, it will take few more days to annihilate them. But even with this victory, Chinese still have over 200 divisions.

Go Japan, kick some ass!

yes, but I want to kick some real ass:) I get bored extremely slow (but realistic) advance in China. I want to send US Navy to the bottom of the Pacific:)

As I stated before I didn't have plans to launch offensive in the South. You may have realized that I had very small force left in the South. But after I got Ji'an I thought that I may run towards the sea from there. Terrain was also much more suitable ( full of valleys) compared to the Chinese positions in the South-East ( mostly mountains). As a result, my motorized divisions proved their worth by arriving at Lufeng before retreating Chinese.

Since the beginning of 1939, I captured 11 IC of China. This will worsen their supply-TC and reinforcement situation. The war will be over in 1940.

Situation of the Economy

Major coal shortage caused many factories to stop their production last week. Coal stockpile was completely depleted. The situation continued for a week seriously disrupting our production.Following this development, PM Kiichiro cancelled our trade agreement with Soviet Union according to which we give them coal to obtain iron ore. Now, our coal stockpile began to rise again. PM Kiichiro assigned Armaments Ministers Shoda Kazue to make new trade agreements with possible iron ore exporters. This incident showed Japan's need to obtain resource-rich areas in the Asia.

Battle of Liuzhou

m32f2.jpg

January, 1940

Imperial Conference, Tokyo

PM Kiichiro : His Majesty, Dear Ministers and Generals of Empire of Japan. The aim of this conference is to evaluate our struggle in China and to talk about our strategy in the new year. Chief of Staff General Sugiyama will explain us the current situation in the war and our aims in 1940.

General Sugiyama : Thanks Prime Minister. We achieved our strategic aim of capturing Chinese industry in the Central China in 1939. Other than this, we also managed to make Chinese Southern Front collapse by cutting them through Chenzhou-Shaoguan-Lufeng line. This offensive costed Chinese more than 300.000 soldiers and enabled us to make further advances in the South. This, in turn, made advance in the Central Front easier. We are sure that loss of substantial amount of factories will further weaken the Chinese Army. Chinese Army already lacks equipment and suffers from poor supply transportation. That is the brief summary of our 1939 operations.

Emperor Hirohito : General, Could we end the war this year ?

General Sugiyama : Yes His Majesty, Chinese provisional capital Chongqing is only 200 km away from our territory. Our plan in 1940 is to march towards Chongqing and thus putting an end to Chinese resistance. We also plan to advance in the South and to threaten Chongqing from the South.

dr510.jpg

PM Kiichiro : His Majesty, after the fall of Chonqging, we don't think that Chiang Kai-Shek will be able to continue his control over NRA. Then we can make peace with more moderate Chinese leaders. We know that there are many Chinese politicians who wants to make peace with us. Our victories has already undermined prestige of Chiang Kai-Shek a lot, all we have to do is to inflict one final blow.

Emperor Hirohito : Good Prime Minister, I have full faith on you. European War revealed Soviet aggression. British and Americans are also major threat to our Empire. I don't want to be caught by Soviets or British while bogged down deep in China. We have to end the war in China and to prepare against possible engagements with these powers.

PM Kiichiro : Your highness reflected our viewpoint on the European War perfectly. I personally promise that the war will be over this year in our favour. We fought 3 years of bloody and costly war in China but our gain in this war will go much beyond our sacrifices. Friendly and Japanese controlled-China will certainly solve our raw material problems. We could obtain all our needed resources from the vast Chinese mainland. This will hugely reduce our dependance on Soviets and Americans in terms of trade. Japan controlling China would certainly be the most powerful country in Asia.

Insurgents took control of Shantou. Marine divisions were sent to quell the rebellion.
