Deadmeat's UK AoD Adventure

Goal - 'to survive the Nazi scourge and with honor achieve victory in this war..'

Simple AAr, more to explore AoD to people interested than a story.

Prelude:

Germany has declared war on Poland, we are now at war with Germany. Poland cannot be saved however we have an expeditionary force awaiting transport to France to assist our brothers....

Naval bombers are patrolling the east coast of the UK, the home fleet patrols of the north coast of Germany, blockading the German fleet in the North Sea. Destroyers are patrolling the Western Approaches to protect our vital convoys from any U-boat attacks as were seen in WW1. The Channel fleet lays in wait for any German ships attempting to take the easy route through the channel to the Atlantic. Our Whitley strategic bombers have dropped the first bombs on the Ruhr, suffering moderate casualties.

It begins....

The Phony War

The British Expeditionary Force under General Dill has landed in Calais and transports to Lille awaiting operations on the western front, they are prioritized for supplies as they will be the most likely to see combat in the near future....

North Africa looks desolate and undefended, soldiers are taken away from the defense of the homeland and are en route to Alexandria to reinforce the Front in case of attack from the Italian Fascists.

In a small skirmish of the coast of Spain British Swordfish Submarines engage Germany submarines of equal force, both sides limp off with some heavy damage but no casualties...

French fleet disengaged nearly immediately, admirable.

September 17, 1939, Poland is Annexed by Germany.

Bomber squadrons report that bombs are falling with reasonable accuracy, the German air force apparently unable to send enough interceptors to form a considerable defense. Most casualties are caused by shrapnel from flak guns. Major General Harris is pleased.

October 8th, New Vickers MKVI light tanks arrive in France, we DARE the hun to attack us now!

Elsewhere... off the coast of Spain convoys are being torpedoed at an unsustainable rate, we have too few ships to dispatch at the moment, and our submarines are in dry dock repairing from the previous skirmish...

October 17th, our bombers were ambushed by German Interceptors on the return from bombing Cologne, only 50% of the bomber crew made it home. We will have to rethink our strategy.

October 18th, Bomber command commences a 'Night bombing' strategy in order to avoid German Interceptors.

Bombers limp home from a raid on Cologne

November 11th, a destroyer fleet is broken off from the Home fleet and dispatched to the west coast of Spain to hunt these damned U-boats!
Current British merchant shipping losses are 37 ships.
During a skirmish defending a convoy, one Swordfish class submarine was rammed and critically damaged and subsequently scuttled, there were no casualties however.

November 18th, the USSR declare war on Finland. We are otherwise occupied.

December 7, 1939, the home fleet redeploys between Scalpa Flow and Iceland in order to incercept German submarines with the help of naval aircraft.... the German subs have free autonomy to sink convoys at the moment...

The German airforce is taking a beating flying into French territory to bomb targets, loosing over 500 fighters and bombers, conversely British bomber command has lost a mere 150 bombers. Things are looking good for the allies in the air....

To be continued

Wow! Amazing!

How did the Germans lost so many planes? :wacko:

Norway

Britain prepares to assist in the defense of Norway, The BEF is loaded into ships at Calais and is en route to Norway.

26 Jan 1940, A15 crusader tanks arrive at the BEF HQ, these will come in handy soon.

March 22, there is a marked decline in U-boat successes in the previous months, possibly due to our increased anti sub activity.

April 19th, night strategic bombardment of northern Germany recommences. German air force once again unable to prevent bombing, albeit of lesser value targets on the north coast of Germany.

April 29th, HMS Illustrious, a Carrier, is completed.

More to come....

Looks like the Sir Arthur Harris Challenge will be a real challenge this time! :cool:

Heh, it may end up so, Im hoping Germany attacks Norway, so i can intervene and gain an ally. But i fear that ship has sailed, and I'm gonna be alone once France gets mashed :(

very good. dont have it yet myself, hope to get it this weekend. im surpised your covoy losses were so high

The battle for France

May 2nd, 1940, Germany declares war on Benelux and IMMEDIATELY initiates an offensive. The BEF is landed in Calais.
Wellington bombers are redeployed to Lille, fighters begin combat patrols over the channel and the Pas de Calais, the BEF awaits the hun in Lille.

The Belgian and Dutch forces are in full retreat to the might of the Germans.

May 10th, Luxempourg falls.

May 17th, the Wellingtons take heavy casualties assisting the Franco-Belgian defense of Antwerp and are withdrawn to England.

May 26, another setback for bomber command, an early morning interception after dropping payload leads to another devastating casualty report for General Harris. Bomber operations temporarily postponed.

May 27th, Churchill is appointed Prime Minister. Our bulldog against the Nazis. The day before the first small air skirmish over the channel was won by the RAF. The day after, the first French city falls. Rheims.

June 3rd, HMS Illustrious takes several torpedo hits en route to Portsmouth, She is heavily damaged but afloat.

June 6th, Amiens falls to the Germans, the BEF and several French units are in a 'Bulge' about to be cut off.

June 8th, after heavy fighting in Lille, clearly outmatched by the German force, the BEF retreats to Calais.
We lost 3600 men, the Germans lost twice that number, a stubborn fight.
The Germans are now dogfighting over the Channel, desperate defense by the RAF ensues.

10th June, the Germans take Le Havre, the BEF and remaining Belgian forces are cut off, we will retreat into the sea.

June 11th, Paris falls.

June 17th, the transport fleet moves in to take the BEF back to Portsmouth, to the Royal Navy's absolute horror, torpedoes smash into the transports!! incredible damage is done to the transports, but the channel fleet drives the submarines off just in time for the brits to fall back onto the boats and make it safely back to England. A close run thing indeed.

France is de-facto abandoned, we cannot provide them any more assistance. We wish them luck and look to our own defenses.

To be continued...

Rule Britannia! Subscribed! :D
Too bad that you can't save France.

Current casualty listings.

United Kingdom

Manpower = 31
Aircraft = 129 fighters, 555 bombers
Tanks = 18

Germany

Manpower = 144
Aircraft = 2 fighter, 3 bombers
Tanks = 165

*i previously misread the German air casualties, which were in decimals!

France

Manpower = 340
Aircraft = 234 fighters, 139 Bombers
Tanks = 574

France has obviously taken the brunt, German air superiority though!! thats unexpected. Though the Germans advanced so fast there was little need for air power!
