Dangers of an un-landed son

I'm playing as the Emperor of Leon in Holy Fury for the first time. Got my first bloodline (philosopher, which is pretty good).

I noticed that my un-landed son is now a baron in the HRE. What? Did the sneaky Emperor of the HRE give land to my son so he could claim my throne or kingdoms? (I do that lall the time ). My son's wife did come from HRE land and has a claim on one of the baronies there.

Is the AI that sneaky, or did I miss something?

I generally do not like to land my sons since I can't control who they marry, etc. It seems to cause problems.

I don't think the AI is that clever - he probably just inherited it naturally. I suppose if you are playing multiplayer landing your sons/brothers may be a good idea to stop such issues

Isn't there now a checkbox which allows you to control their marriages (*), even if landed?

(*) I presume it doesn't limit/control concubinage

I always intend to spread my dynasty ... but, I also have this compulsion to rescue/collect dying dynasties (especially if they have a unique CoA).

No, for optimization purposes the ai hands out excess baronies to courtiers rather than creating new characters to hold it, your son was simply in his court and his number came up for land.
