Alright, my goal here is to be able to have a bloodline that passes down traits ie genius, brave, lunatic etc. I'm just having a ton of trouble figuring out how to do it. I've managed to essentially create my own custom bloodline through file editing, but nothing I do seems to be working. I'm wondering if this is even possible (it seems like it should be), and if it is do you have any idea how to do it.

What do you mean by "file editing"? This would probably be better asked in the modding forum. Check out the CK2 wiki for modding too; it's a great place to get started and look at for reference.

If you want your bloodline to make a trait more likely (similar to the Child of Destiny bloodline), you're going to have to edit one of the event files for gaining/losing personality traits to check for your bloodline like how it does, and if you want it guaranteed, you'll want some sort of on_action event that checks for your bloodline (be it on birth, on a yearly pulse, or etc) and adds a trait.
