First off, it will be a matter of days at most that CORE for AoD will be available for the general public. For our fan base not a moment too soon, for those who are unfamiliar with a major mod like CORE an opportunity to see what we've done with the game ourselves. But that's not the main reason I'm posting here, let alone in the AoD main forum thread - usually an announcement like this tends to be something for the modding section.

But since wyK1NG- already let the cat out of the bag a wee bit sooner than I'd planned (I was hoping to break the news when CORE for AoD is formally released) I find it only fair to make a statement on behalf of the team.

I'm sure that most of you aren't aware of the fact that CORE already contributed heavily to AoD out of the box, in terms of model graphics (easily over half are ours, actually). Come to think of it, we weren't either at first... But we got that sorted out rather quickly, and granted permission for their use in the game, albeit a bit belated. During the discussions about the graphics issue we found that BL-Logic and ourselves weren't actually all that different, and there certainly was common ground in terms of respect, maturity and approach. So when wyK1NG- hinted at a partnership between BL-Logic and ourselves to make the game even better it did not take long to reach a decision (unanimously, I might add)...

So I'm glad to announce that CORE will actively contribute to further development of Arsenal of Democracy, and already have been behind the scenes these last couple of months. Our tech trees and our detailed event chains will remain part of CORE, but don't be surprised if some of our 'regular' stuff like events or graphics will be integrated in a future release of Arsenal of Democracy. Furthermore will actively share our thoughts and suggestions for further improvement of the game.
We're not aiming at transferring AoD into CORE, nor will fully focus on AoD alone (there will be a CORE for HoI3 as well, for one). Likewise, CORE won't be the only mod for AoD I'm sure, though BL-Logic kindly has offered to actively promote CORE as the 'official mod for AoD', in recognition of our contribution to the HoI series since day 1. But I'm sure that we will leave our mark here and there... ;)

On behalf of the whole CORE dev team,

Hagar

AoD just keeps getting better. :)

Will Core for AoD use the single ship approach that made Core2 a micromanagement hell?

Single ships will remain in at least for the first version CORE 0.49 for AoD. We will discuss wether to take them out later.

They will probably have to go out if we find no possibility for modding how many escorts a DD converts into. AoD has this feature and this plays havoc with single DDs, that can be converted into several escorts. It is one of the areas where the BL - CORE contacts come in.

T.

Actually we're not that different, at least BL-Logic and ourselves aren't... The main difference is our focus: whilst we focus on soft-coding, i.e. anything but messing with the EXE, they focus on totally messing with the EXE first and foremost.

Super!

I really do hope that Core and other mods will be an integrated part of the game, so the majority of gamers who never install a MOD will have the chance to play CORE and other mods.

Yes, if the main mods could be delivered right with AOD, or at least easily downloadable, it would make AOD very attractive. The strength of HOI2 vs HOI3 is actually the few years of successful modding work - AOD should make full use of this advantage.

To solve the DD problem, couldn't you just solve it by thinking of the destroyer unit as all the different escorts types below light cruiser, except for PT boats (as that's really different). Destroyers, destroyer escorts, frigates, corvettes are all quite similar in role and since they're grouped in flotillas the individual stats are less important. In this case destroyer units are the escorts used for battle, while the escorts are the same units only part of the convoy network.

Ain't gonna happen.

or at least easily downloadable

How can they be more easily downloadable than now? Click on the link, download, play. I don't see how you can make it easier.

The truth is that successful modding work is pretty much FINISHED now. Most of the major mods have delivered their last stable version for Arma and support has been discontinued ever since - I mean mod33, 34, Compendium... The only real exception to that is CORE.

All in all we have yet to see what the CORE - BLogic cooperation will bring exactly. So far it looks like the devs themselves have no idea what they should do with that cooperation idea. Although for promotional reasons, it's great, that's sure.

For those of us not familiar with CORE, could you explain it a little bit?

I'm more for anything that makes the game more realistic and extends playability.

Plus where would we get info on it/ download etc..?

Thanks!

Sure! From the HoI2 Wiki:
CORE is the Community Open Resource Exchange. CORE aims to make Hearts of Iron 2 a more historically accurate and involving game, through expanded and more detailed tech trees, corresponding units, tech teams and a large number of events, reflecting both historical actions and possibilities. Both Industrial Capacity („IC‟) and resources for the entire game have been revised to better reflect reality in the late 1930s. Other features include reserve divisions instead of militia (a reserve unit is less mobile, and has less heavy weapons - such as artillery. These units form the mainstay of the armies of the minor and semi-industrialized countries), rares scarcity, SS recruitment, 1:1 naval ship representation and negative resource production (representing civilian spoilage of energy and oil). The basic CORE installer includes generic graphics for techs, tech teams, leaders, ministers and generic models that have been updated to fit the latest release. There are also optional packages to download with an even greater amount of graphics available, such as country-specific model graphics and tech imagery.

So basically we aim to make the game as historical (or ahistorically plausible) as possible. And let you relive the intricate diplomatic web of the late 30s.

Downloading will be from our sub forum (which is up and running), though we're yet to release (this weekend at the latest). If you're looking for our Armageddon version, just check out my signature.

Well, porting the mod over from Armageddon proved to be relatively easy to be honest, at least in our case. A shame to put all that work we spent on it in the bin, just because HoI3 is out...

All in all we have yet to see what the CORE - BLogic cooperation will bring exactly. So far it looks like the devs themselves have no idea what they should do with that cooperation idea. Although for promotional reasons, it's great, that's sure.
Actually we do have a pretty good idea where to contribute, and how. Granted, so far the focus has been to get the mod up and running, and it takes some time to get a good feel for each other and how to cooperate. But with a mod which has already seen development for years BL-Logic has a headstart in porting events and such. Plus we have plenty of source material we can contribute, like my graphics archive (3.3GB and growing). Already we have seen the odd tweak or two to the game engine, on our behalf (and other modders alike)...

Always lovely to see that the best of the best join forces and make a better product out of it. A dream come true...

As a long time Core fan I feel happy too... Only recently been to AoD but liking it allready... Will even like it more with CORE (sure of that!!!)

I'm curious about the phrase "future releases of AoD"

Does this mean it will be a separate purchase?
I guess he meant patches. Some things done by modders have already been included in 1.03 and 1.04.
