Can I inherit the ERE as a republic without it ending the game? Would it turn the ERE republican?

I think perhaps you could become elected, but you can't inherit normally — someone else from your family will get to be the heir, e.g. your younger brother or son instead.

But, doges can still press their claims or even be installed as feudal kings or emperors by victorious rebel factions inside feudal kingdoms. For example once upon a time my doge of Pisa was made king of France that way.

So yes. I didn't say how I would "inherit it," but you answered the question. Thanks.
