So just beat Poland as Germany. Noticed that France took over 40k casualties but we never fought at all! I loaded them in a save and looked and there is no record of any combat. We did have some air attacks in one region, with them attacking. But no way that equals 40k. At the very start of the war it started at 10k.

Unless this is their ship/convoy losses? They did loss a bunch of convoy ships.

The submarines account for 1800 manpower, at 200 each. Convoys don't cost manpower if I'm not mistaken. Maybe skirmishes on the Italian border, or attrition in their colonies?

Loaded as France watched closely. Yep convoys with troops downed by subs. Mystery solved!

But I know air loses now count as casualties, do ships now do as well, separate from troops/divisions lost on convoys?

I'm pretty sure they do? It'd be strange if a sunken ship doesn't result in any casualties.

Agree, I know in older versions ships and air losses did not count but I think air does now. As I watched the casualties increases it did seem to go up in smaller number when ships were sunk (unless those were planes elsewhere), so maybe they count now as well. Or at least they should.

I believe that sunk ships contribute to the casualty pool.

That is the effect of "shark infested waters" introduced in "Man The Guns" IIRC.
