There are two different models of ideologic systems that are possible with democratic states
Either, we should have the formalities (constitutional monarchy, republic, federal republic, etc...), or concentrate on the ideologic spectra of different kind of government.
We could say that Catholic represents reformed socialism, and that protestantism represents a more rightist form of policy. Then a country that changes government can change ideology, and get better relations with it's ideological brothers in other parts of the world.
