A recent update ruined the Charlemagne play-through by making Saxony highly susceptible to immediate Norse conquest.

That's about it. I haven't been playing CK2 much in the past year or so, and I just remembered why. One of the recent updates basically ruined the Charlemagne scenario, which is my favorite, by making the Saxons vulnerable to nearly immediate Norse conquest -- something I never notice until I realize around year 785 that I'm not going to get the Saxon Wars event sequence because Saxony is an independent Norse kingdom.

I know there are a million other ways to play CK2, and I enjoy them, but Charlemagne is basically the signature scenario. What gives?

Not a tech support issue so moved to main forum. If the community agrees it's likely to be a bug, post in Bug Reports please

I don't see Saxony always getting taken over by Norse-cultured invaders in my games. What usually happens is Charlie never gets the Saxony events 'cause he dies early or loses a faction war.

I mean, Saxony does start as an independent Norse religion kingdom, and I don't think the rulers would somehow change to Norse culture so early on, and even if they did, I doubt it would prevent the Saxon Wars event from happening. So I think the OP is mistaken.

He specifically says conquest, not that they culture shift. Conquest does prevent the Charlemagne events with regards to Saxony. The religion is called Germanic in vanilla, not Norse anymore.

Cosmos read my post correctly. Nine games out of 10, the Saxons get invaded by Denmark in the first month or two of the game, while I'm busy (as Charlemagne) with something else, and by the time the Karloman events are over, or shortly thereafter, Saxony is a Norse *culture* kingdom, and the Saxony Wars event doesn't fire.

You can savescum your way out of it, but it requires a lot of patience, because it happens almost every time.
