The Reign of Philipp Wilhelm I von Wittelsbach
Eastern Discontent, Western Blues
God's will would have to wait, for the Hapsburgs were, rather understandably, not feeling too happy with Philipp at this time.
Meanwhile, in the east, some rumblings of discontent.
With the last war, Styria and Tirol had been liberated from the Austrian yoke, and placed under the widening protective umbrella of the HRE. Across Europe, the respect for the institution was at an all-time high.
Having carefully considered the option for some time, Philipp decided that the time was now ripe to risk some of that authority to reform the workings of the HRE. An Imperial Diet was convened.
As the Diet deliberated, Bavaria found herself drawn into yet another war, this time beyond the boundaries of the HRE.
As Bavarian forces readied themselves for the long march to the eastern end of Europe, an echo sounded in the west.
Meanwhile, the deliberations of the Imperial Diet had come to an end. Careful preparation by Philipp and his diplomatic corps had paid off handsomely.
With success achieved spectacularly in diplomacy, Bavaria now awaited word from the forces sent forth to engage the Turkish armies that had driven deep into Europe in the past few decades. Even before Bavarian forces had reached the battlefield, though, it became clear that the rumbles of discontent in the east had become increasingly significant.
With Hungarian patriots already ravaging Turkish forts, Bavarian forces were directed to suppress the Bosnian vassals of the Ottomans. General Satzenhofen continued to exhibit his competence on the battlefield, albeit with the odds very much in his favour here.
From other corners of Europe, miscellaneous reports were filed...
while even further east, a great empire continued its expansion.
Satzenhofen had successfully suppressed the Bosnian forces, and General Moshamm soon also came into contact with the Ottoman forces. The Turkish army led by Barbaros found themselves outnumbered, and soon outmaneouvered as well.
Adding insult to injury, the Ottomans found themselves being attacked by an unexpected adversary.
The brotherhood between Muslim countries was, it seemed, no stronger than that between the Christian countries.
Closer to home, the Bavarian economy continued its march towards greater efficiency...
as the Hapsburgs managed to soothe their injured pride somewhat.
Pressure builds on the Ottomans...
as the echoes from the west increase in volume.
Two great powers, one each in the east and west of Europe, find themselves facing into the abyss.
Beyond Europe, other great empires continue to make their presence felt.
With rebels now running rampant in Ottoman territory, Philipp decides to recall most of the Bavarian presence in the east. At home, reforms continue apace...
though not always without incident.
The logic of God's will almost immediately becomes clear...
and the next target is marked.
The Ottomans continue to die from a thousand cuts.
With Hungary leading the alliance, Bavaria's Turkish adventure is over for now. As Bavarian armies march towards their next objective, a crisis develops:
What lies in store for Adalbert?
