When the World Stopped Making Sense
Hey ladies and gentlemen! Prepare to be awed and amazed, with the awesomeness and ambitiousness of my new mod, one never done before by mortal hands, one alone in the sea of mods about making Bilbo Baggins High Poncho of Mordor, or migrating the Byzantine empire into Scandinavia...) This mod presents a world unseen by mortal eyes, one of migratory hordes, endless raiders, the fall of Rome and those who made good off of it.

When the World Stopped Making Sense 1.01
written by His Divine Excellency, King of Kings, Emperor of All Men, Lord of the Near and Nigh Enlil, Mesopotamian God of Storms

Welcome:
"Charles Fairhair," alxeu,

You are a Beta Tester, a brave adventurer, sent out to discover bugs, inadequacies and mistakes in the game. You are one of a chosen Elite, my Praetorians, Excubitors, Scholae Palatinae, Varangians. I did not select you people (You did not find this mod by chance) for YES-men, who fawn over me and say how perfect it is. (Not that I would complain...) I need you people to be blunt, caustic, and overly aware of every little problem. (But not mean, be tasteful people) Some of you are experienced modders yourselves, some of you are just smart people, some of you can word the mod errors into clever puns. But this is our hour, the gilded moment of our triumph. It is this day we win, or die trying. There will be hardships, there may be historical inaccuracies so bad some may die. There may be none. Some of us will gaze into the thousand mawed monster that is Armorica, and lose your minds forever. You might be mourned. There will be casualties and loss, but we will emerge stronger than ever before, we will release the best mod this forum has ever seen, and one day, a dev might even post in this badboy. For us band of brothers (and sisters???), us happy, lucky few. On this feast day of Crispian...

The Bestiary

"Catholics are OP" Martin Luther, Circa 1520

Bugs: Bugs, Glitches, and other negative Nelsons get reported in the bug forum. Don't just say there is one, find that corrupted apple that is ruining the crop, and tell me how to purge it, and if you can't find a solution, or it is too difficult to fix, we label it WAD and never look at it again

Missing Stuff: Did I forget something that should be in? Tell me in the Suggestions thread! Something missing can be as damaging as any bug. And it is common scientific knowledge that bugs are gross and icky.

Inaccuracies: There will be some. Tell me what I should do to make it better.

The Armory

"Remember your three assets, confidence, creativity, and courage. Also, numbers, you're going to want some of those" Micheal Swaim, circa 2004

This Forum: This bastion of hope and dreams will be your main source of reporting bugs. With great power, comes great coolness...

PM's: PM me if you want to directly tell me something super important. Only for emergencies, but not for, like a fire or something. Use 911, I refuse to put out a fire or stop a home invasion.

Modding Quick Questions Forum: Those guys are like, bros

Each Other: PM each other, I personally don't care if you fill IsadorBG's mailbox up, just not mine.

The Main Mod Page: Feel free to start up a discussion about the game that does not involve if Theodoric was Emperor.

Books: I don't know, there could be stuff in them.

911: I'm sure the police would love to come over and help you find that missing bracket in the landed titles.

Piracy
"Aargh Matey!" President Abraham "Blackbeard" Lincoln, Gettysburg Address

Don't steal stuff from this mod until it is released, and then you can use whatever you want if you give credit, as long as it is not going into another 480 mod.

The Link
"No, I thought of Tyre too, but in context of providing a hint to people I thought that line would make people think of Vandal Carthage instantly." Last Known Words of the Messiah Shaytana, circa 456 B.C.

(See the next post)

Changelog:
Fixed the Major Blank event crash
fixed Romano-British Localization
Fixed some onaction files.

In Conclusion
"I have this dream of mine..." Ragnarr Loðbrók, French accountant

My faithful champions, my holy legions, I thank you all for being patient. This is still a beta, and there will be bugs, but I'm sure that you would rather play and help now that wait more months for a "more complete" version. Have fun you guys, and I hope to continue to improve this mod with the help of the dev team, who are a wonderful people who have made so much of this possible.

This mod looks fantastic. It looks pre-alpha but you should definitely release it sometime.

Oh, well enough, the Rhine gold would disappear in the morning anyway. I'm tempted to do my own Nibelungen AAR, if you'll publish the mod.
On to a minor nitpicking - I don't thing stats give Gundobad justice. The man created Lex Burgondorum, codified law, so presumably he was one of the most civilized between Germanic tribal kings, he also was patrician, prefect of Rome and Chief of Domestics in the remnants of Western Empire, he even appointed one of the last emperors in the West - Glicerius.
By the way, is there some pretenders with claim on the Western empire in your mod? Can they adventure to become Restitutor Occidentalis?

This is amazing. I want your mod as well.

Of, Gundoad now had much better traits,

The Arians would probably create something similar to a Crusade. The Vandals at times would claim that they were inading kingdoms in the name of a Massive Holy War for Arianism, so the basis for a large scale holy war exists in history.

A Berber, Donatist North Africa is likely, the Berbers will eventually rise up against the Vandals big time, and then they become these pathetic rulers ruling Malta, Mallorca, Sardinia, and Corsica raiding constantly to get enough money to attack someone for real.

And there's a chance that the Great Schism will not be between Catholics and Orthodox, but Catholics and Iconoclasts, depending on a few events that will fire for the Emperor.

Dear God, I can't imagine the alternate histories that will spring from this mod, with all these events and having the point of divergence in 480.
This will be glorious I say!

A number of things. What is this 'Italian' culture doing in Italy? Italian doesn't splinter from Latin until much later. Another thing is how come Damascus isn't under the control of the ERE but under the Ghassanids? In your mod, other parts of Syria is also under Persian control instead of being under the rule of Rome.

Inspired by darthfanta's statement about the Italian culture, you should consider intergrating the mod that handles the Sicilian culture as well. It can become italian - sicilian, norman - sicilian, greek - sicilian and arabian - sicilian if I remember correctly.

Since videonfan started talking about Sicily, I add five cents on matter of Sardinia. It shouldn't be Vandal cultured, Vandal rule on Sardinia were very fragile, and totally confined in coastal regions, inner Sardinia, Barbadgia, were out of anyone's control for centuries, even Rome at its height hold only nominal control of the area. It also shouldn't be Aryan, Sardinian prince Ospitone converted to Christianity only in 594. So to summarize - Sardinia - Sardinian-cultured, pagan. Sardinian culture is distinct from Italian, and Sardinian language is not a dialect of Italian, but a Romanesque language in it's own right.

I am really interested in this mod/aar since the migration period is one of my favorite parts of history. That being said there are a few things i noticed. First, North Africa. Doantism at this time was a dying heresy and was almost extinct, so most of the vandal's territory should be nicene . Second, the areas that the vandals controlled were the most romanised parts of north Africa. They spoke a language called African romance into well past the Arab conquest, so all of north africa shouldn't be Berber.

Now for western Europe. There are way to many Arian provinces in former Gaul, Hispania, and Italia. Arianism was very popular amounts the Germanic people and the Germanic kings. The native population of the regions were all nicene, while more Germanic regions should have more arian provinces. That being said, there were hold outs of Arians in the Eastern roman empire. I hope I don't sound like an ass for all things i'm saying

Now questions: How will cultural fusions work? If the Vandals survives will a Vandalic-Romance culture occur? Or a Gothic-Romance culture? Speaking of the Goths, will it be possible to united the goths under one banner and form a "Holy Gothic empire"? That would be awesome. How will the Byzantine-Sassanian wars be represented and if the Helphilates conquer persia, could we see a Zoroastrian-Buddhist mixed religon?

Finally, I vote Soissons. The western empire isn't dead quite yet ;)

Thank you, North Africa has been altered.
Vandalica: More Nicene provinces, Donatism still exists though
(African Romance is in progess)

I know, reasons was equal parts laziness and gameplay. I wanted to try to make the Arians and Nicenes be at the edge of the other becoming a heresy.

I hope I don't sound like an ass for all things i'm saying

It's fine, your simply trying to make this who thing better, and that's a good thing! The only defense I have is I did make this last weekend, so there are sure to be come minor cultures left out.

Current Cultural Blends:

Romano-Gothic
Romano-Vandalic
(events for the creation of the Anglo Saxons)
Brittonic-Jute:
Frank - > Frankish
(and some more I currently don't remember

Finally, I vote Soissons. The western empire isn't dead quite yet ;)

Laudate Syagrius Rex!

Some Changes I made:

Cultures and Religions in Vandalica are more accurate

Many Arian nations have sizable Pagan or Nicene populations

The accidental Italian culture is removed

Sardinian culture is added

Ghassanid/Byzantine borders readjusted

New Hellenic Pagan vassal to the Byzantines

New Cultural retinues for my new cultures

New Cultural Assimilations

Rex Syagrius' name is fixed

King Gundobad of Burgundy has better traits to represent his awesomeness

New African Romance Culture added

Overall more happiness and goodcheer for all you wonderful people!
