Hi, I just purchased KA while it was on sales. From reading a few threads I understand that there are a few quests that make the difficulty jump up a LOT. Can anyone tell me which quests these are?

I guess this is a game where 'rushing' may be a bad idea, so I'd just like a bit of warning about which missions I need to be absolutely ready for.

This is hard to say. What I can recommend is that you try to not lose any teams/bands of units during a battle. Especially when you have some with experience you want to keep these.

Some of the battles are terribly difficult, but they're doable if you learn to manage special attacks/Magic.

The game does have some difficult moments.

Strangely enough, I handled King Idres's armies pretty well, when they had a 100% strength to my 70% or so, yet I got crushed when I tried to enter Bedeghraine (sp?) Forest, when they had 82% to my 72%.
