The 1905 Electoral Bill inaugurated an era of open and massive democracy in our country. However, we cannot state that suffrage is universal, for women have not been granted their civic right to vote. Women have fought hard, side by side with men for the construction of a better, more fair society; participating in all aspects of our social and political life. Therefore, during the present year a draft of bill shall be presented, to amend the aforementioned Electoral Bill to extend its scope to women.
On another line of news, in light of the continued growth of our economy, the port facilities have become outdated; jeopardizing the overall growth in our economy. In the last 20 years, both the nature of world trade and our role in it has changed, therefore, the infrastructure must adapt to it and the necessary studies and preparations are underway.
On the foreign front, we offer our best wishes to the United States of Venezuela in their process of internal reform.

In London, representatives of the British Government and the Argentine Government sign a Treaty of Trade, bringing some barriers down, and opening up the British and Argentine markets to the respective goods of the other country. It was expected to have a positive impact to both nations.

The British Broadcasting Company is founded in London in 1918. Its goal is to deliver information to the British Public via radio, when more people own them, and by print if need be. Their target audience would be the British Public, the Peoples of Europe, as well as the citizens of Canada and the United States. This ambitious project was made possible by Government Grants, and soon BBC Journalists fanned out across Europe, corresponding and reporting on what was happening. The news and detail were so gruesome and horrible, many were turned off by the War entirely. But another faction, far smaller, advocated openly for the War, saying only Britain could help stop these atrocities.

The Intelligence Corps is founded as a wing of the Royal Army in 1918, with the purpose of helping advance the security of the Royal Army and Britain as a whole. However, work on the project does take some time, and it won’t be operation for at least another two years.

The Royal Air Force beings to fly sorties into the North Atlantic, trying to spot German Ships and German Submarines. While a few submarines are spotted, the airplanes can do nothing about it, and one even crashes into the ocean because of low fuel. If better coordination could be achieved between the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, this would be a deadly combination.

In France, the next round of men drafted into the army comes in, and it’s not as promising as what had been previously hoped.

In an effort to stop the strike of the French Workers, the Communist Government orders that the entire French Industrial Sector is to be nationalised and ownership was given to the Government. Some responded against this notion, and several factories across France exploded due to this extreme measure. The French Government had forgotten, in that same decree, to mention that the Factories were then handed over to the Labor Unions, to be run by the workers, and owned by the workers. In reality, a Union Boss controlled the factory just as a normal boss did before, but now the conditions were only slightly less bad.

The French Government allocate an enormous amount of money towards the creation of Industry in the nation. Under the new guidelines of Union ownership, a Union of Workers was formed first, then the Government gave them money to build a factory. In doing so, the Union retained full control of the factory, and the means of production. An industrial boom soon happened in France, one in which Chairman Millerand was said to have “looked in the face of American capitalism, and laughed.”

The French Government, knowing that their home War Industry was lacking, was forced to look abroad to purchase weapons. French Transport Ships venture out across the seas, without the protection of their Navy, and instead sail with the Italian Navy, and make several long and arduous trips to the United States to purchase weaponry. All of it makes it to France, and is quickly distributed to the soldiers on the frontlines, as well as the new ones being drafted.

The French government mandates full and total economic, political, and social equality for all genders, races, faiths, and any other type living in France. While the formerly male-dominated society is strongly opposed to this idea, too many are on the frontlines to do anything about it. The Army of Liberation receives female recruits for the war effort, but they are turned down by the Army, as the army leadership deemed them unfit to serve. Many women, however, do join the workforce, and help to fuel France’s Industrial Boom.

During the early days of 1918, a miscommunication between the Russian and French High Commands occurred, causing the French to mass a full-fledged assault against the German Empire in Alsace Lorraine. Across a wide front, mostly to make sure reinforcements were not shifted to the front, but the assault was spearheaded by members of the French 27th Army, which consisted of French Farmers from the coast. The cold, frigid weather was a drag on the morale of the French, but nevertheless, the 27th Army surged forward across the no-man’s land, head on into the clicking guns of the German Machine Guns. Artillery boomed from across the border, as whistles sounded time and time again. The 27th, armed with gas canisters, hurled them towards the German lines. As a cruel twist of fate would have it, for the next week, strong winds from Eastern Germany flowed into Northern France, making all gas attacks backfire on the French. They continued to deploy them, not knowing of their devastating effects.

As the 27th Army surged into what was now dubbed “The Angle”, the flanks were supported by crack soldiers of the Liberation Army, the Paris Reds, a highly-trained group of soldiers that were trained in this type of warfare. The Germans, however, were well advised to ensure that nothing was to get through this gap, and they even began to make makeshift fortifications in it, to try and provide some cover for the defenders. As gas canisters were thrown, the wind constantly threw it back to the French, who thought that it was simply the Germans throwing the gas. Thousands of French fell, as one German Soldier, Hans Möller of the 12th Corps of the German Army wrote in his diary, ”They throw the gas, and it floats over them, while we sit and shoot at them, struggling to breathe. God has blessed the Fatherland with idiotic enemies.”

As the summer dawned upon the Western Front, the winds started to die down, somewhat. The same tactic as was used before took effect, throwing the canisters over the German lines, and this time, not as much came back to kill the French, and one lucky shot devastated the bunkers of the German 3rd Army. The battle raged on, fighting for control of The Angle. For a few hours on August 11th, 1918, the French Army was able to gain control of the trenches in this area, until a shock counterattack by the German Army swarmed into the area, pushing the French out, and forcing them to fall back. Fighting continued sporadically for the next few weeks, but never again in the year did the French get that close to The Angle again, and on November 18th, 1918, the French Army sounded a full retreat, removing themselves from combat against the Angle. They took up their former defensive positions, and after an entire year, had no gains to point to at all.

The Dutch Army undergoes a series of re-armament programmes, which are designed to make sure the Dutch Army stays in top shape compared to its neighbours, the German Empire and France. The Queen assured the population nothing would come of this, except being prepared for the worst.

The Dutch Navy undergoes a series of reforms, as the Naval Command is concerned with establishing a military presence in the seas, especially with the submarines floating around. Plans are laid out, and soon the Dutch Navy shall boast a fleet of several submarines.

The banks that were nationalised under the guise of the economic meltdown in the Netherlands finally take their first steps in the private market once again, as the Government lets them return to being privately owned. This is a good move for the Dutch Economy, as it shoots upwards, spurned by private investment.

Attempts to get more airplanes in the air for the Dutch Military fail as the project never gets enough funding from the Dutch High Command, who deemed military arms more important and pressing for this moment.
The Netherlands World Service Radio (NWR) is established in Amsterdam, with the intent of bringing radio programmes and other broadcasts to the people who speak Dutch around the world. It is a highly successful venture, and even the people of Flanders, who had not been able to listen to much but the French-dominated radio of Wallonia. The General Education Bill passes the Dutch Parliament with great fanfare, as it is to decouple the various schools around the nation catchment areas, and give the Students of the parents more choice in their children’s education. The Kingdom of Spain attempts to give tax breaks to industrialists and capitalists to increase the economic output of Spain, but as it turns out, a lot of them are supporters of the Fascist political party, Popular Front for Spanish Nationalism. They quickly channel this money into their own party, and to their organizers in Finland. Some of that money makes it’s way to Berlin, who sends the Spanish a note of thanks for their efforts in funding German Industry.

The Spanish Parliament attempts to pass legislation to restructure their debt to better manageable levels, but the ruling coalition of the Monarchist and Fascist Party refuses to come to an agreement over the exact wording, and nothing is done, except giving the leader of the Popular Front for Spanish Nationalism, Miguel Primo de Rivera the attention needed to promote his party to the Spanish people, and it gained major traction with the Spanish people.
The Wartime Sales Act sails through the Spanish Parliament, allowing any nation from either side to purchase Spanish military equipment from Spain. It receives criticism from other nations by saying they would sell to the German Empire.
The King of Spain delivers his yearly speech to Parliament, trying to inspire his people towards newer and greater things. The people are lukewarm to this speech, but they respond favourably to this notion.

The Italian Government purchases a large quantity of weapons from the United States, and they use their own ships to bring them back to Italy. Half of the costs are paid for by the French Government, and the other half by the Italian Government. However, on the way home, some of the ships get torpedoed by the German U-Boat fleet operating in the Mediterranean, which the Italians can’t seem to get rid of.

Attempts to rally the Italian Population into a frenzy against the Germans, using idea of racial hatred, fall flat as the Italian People are many things, but they know themselves not to believe in racial hatred. They do, however, believe fully that the Germans cause is wrong, and are motivated to stop them at all costs.
The Italian Society completely and utterly mobilizes for the War with Germany. All Industry is retooled to make weapons of Death, Roaming gangs of Royal Pioneers watch over the population to ensure that they are doing their duties, and many dare not to oppose them, as they knew what the Royal Pioneers did to them if they opposed. The country hummed along, with nothing to publicly oppose the Italian Government.

As the German Army gained control of Venice, the Italian Army quickly withdrew their soldiers from Croatia, and had them moved to the Italian Mainland. They were marched up to the front, which the Italians proceed to shell the German lines, in preparation for a massive invasion, using over three million men. The movement was across the entire front line, while the Germans held the line in the mountainous regions, in the South they began a full-scale offensive, after claiming Venice for the German Empire, and moved out in a “swinging” motion, smashing through the first set of feeble defenses, and using an old Austro-Hungarian border fort as a pivot, the German Army attacks straight into Northern Italy, trying to reach Milan. The Italian Army, caught up in their own offensive, met at Padua, and the two clashed in an intense battle that would soon define the entire war in Italy.
It started when elements of the German 18th Army moved to take the outskirts of town. The German plan was to establish a defensive position along the Bacchiglione River, which ran through the town of Padua. The Italians, determined to set up a defensive position here, quickly occupied the West Bank of the River, and then sent other sections of the Italian 2nd Army forward to defend Padua from the German Assault. As the whistles were blown and charged made, the carnage was unleashed upon the battleground, as Italian Soldiers refused to concede anything to the German War Machine. News of success with the Russian Front, and the stalemate on the Western Front, the Germans pushed on even harder, inspired by their victories. The fighting was intense and unlike any before seen on the Italian Front. This film reel, taken by a member of the German Army, shows the true devastation of the War. After months of deadly fighting, the German Army was able to gain control of Padua, but Italian defenses on the River prevented them from crossing and advancing further. The Italians made little gains in the North, but they prevented the Germans from gaining more land.

A group of Italians loyal to the King, called the Santo Esercito Italiano di Liberazione, are formed in German-occupied Italy. They are a hit and run group that is focused on seeking out and destroying collaborators, and generally wreak havoc on those who opposed the King, and those who were soldiers of Germany. A record number of supply lines were cut, and thousands of Pro-German Italians were murdered.
Other news from the front in Tyrol came through, Umberto, the son of the King of Italy, was hit by an artillery shell, indirectly causing shrapnel to shred through his arm, meaning that it needed to be removed by field doctors. He fought hard for Italy, and was now without an arm. It was unknown if he would still serve on the frontline, and the entire populace of Italy wondered what he would be doing next.
In the mountains of Switzerland, some explorers for the Swiss Government find several small towns and cities that would be suitable for a Factory to pop up. After half a year of paperwork, the factories foundations were finally laid, and were expected to be completed shortly.

Dual attempts to construct a state of the art radio factory in Bern, as well as a new part for the Radio don’t fall through, as a one Mr. Edward Howard Armstrong already invented the Superheterodyne Receiver, and the Swiss were infringing on his patent rights. The Factory was forced to be shut down.
In Stockholm, Sweden, a military group called the Nordic Legion was formed, and they were told they would form a new Elite-Police force in Scandinavia. It would further serve to help unification in Scandinavia.
In the Swedish Baltic, the Government looks to begin to build up the Ports and Shipyard facilities. While the Government contracted the construction out to a Spanish firm, they insisted that the price they were giving was fair, many in Sweden disagreed that they were being overcharged.

Attempts to procure Oil Geologists from the United States to Sweden fail as none want to leave the United States, which boasts a very high standard of living, and are fine working at their current jobs, with no intention of getting caught up anywhere near the Great War that embroils the continent.
The Swedish Government dissolves and holds an election in 1918. It was mostly aimed at increasing the support of the Government, which was faltering at best. King Gustav also wanted to know the pressing issues on the minds of good-natured Swedes. As it would turn out, Scandinavian Unity, along with neutrality, was at the top of their list. The Swedish Democracy and Union Party won an overwhelming majority of the seats, which looked to unite Scandinavia under one flag, as well as maintain their neutrality in the current Great War.

In the North Sea, raiding parties of German Submarines attack multiple parts of the Russian Blockading Fleet. Operating out of Bergen, Norway, the German U-Boat Fleet undertakes a devastating maneuver against the ability of the Russian Empire to effectively blockade the German Empire. The Russians, which have to move from the Arctic Ocean to the blockading fleet near the coast of Germany, was the victim of several hit and run attacks as the Russians had to travel they long distance to refuel and resupply. However, after losing a large amount of ships to the Germans, the Russians were finally ready, and took preemptive measures, and were ready for the raiding fleet. After a short battle, the Russians were able to trap the German U-Boats off the coast of Norway, where one crashed into a Skerry, and the rest were torn to pieces by the guns of the Russian Naval Ships. This marked the first time since the war started that the German Empire has lost submarines to the allied forces.

Even with this victory against the Russian Arctic Fleet, the British Empire suddenly jumped into action. The blockade around the German Empire's shipping suddenly tightened up, and food was finally cut off from the German Empire. The Germans, however, were able to mitigate the effects of this sudden descent into a blockade by using their control of the Ukraine to their advantage. However, this would only work so so long, as the Ukraine could only supply them with food. Other materials would need to come from somewhere, and that was just cut off.

The German Empire, pushing the idea that they were indeed winning the War, and needed more men to fight for the Fatherland and the Kaiser. People still willingly sign up for Army Service, on top of the next round of figures from the German High Command.

News of the Victory on the front, as well as the great numbers obtained from the mobilisation , inspired thousands of young Germans to rise up and enter the Army. They would be fast tracked through a training regimen and enter to fight for the Fatherland by the next year.

The German High Command, already content with the submachine gun they currently had, did not want to waste even more time, effort, and money into trying to develop another. The idea is shelved entirely and the German High Command bans such talk of a new submachine gun for the rest of the war.
After years of inactivity, the German Naval Command gets orders from the German High Command. The shipyards of Germany would once again hum to life, constructing newer and better ships to defend the German Empire from the threats currently at sea. One of the first actions was to construct new shipyards, and new Submarine Yards that would build Submarines, and house them. Since this was the first project they had in awhile, they quickly got to work building these ships, some of which would be ready in the year.

In what was once known as Congress Poland, fighting between German and Polish Partisans flare up. The German High Command, tired of the constant threat dealing with the Polish, declare that Martial Law shall continue until the War is done, but when the War is over, they will strongly recommend the removal of Congress Poland from the German Empire, as the cost of policing it has become far too high and is straining the resources of the German Empire. Overall, the Germans are able to suppress the rebellion in Congress Poland, but they would only tolerate it for the remainder of the war.

Efforts to sway the Baltics and Byelorussia back to the Russian Empire fail once again, as propaganda that they did not have to “Die for Germany” falls on deaf ears. As far as they are concerned, they were Liberated by the Germans, who secured their freedom, and only keeps a tight watch on their military to ensure their survival. They are convinced that it is the Russians who are invading them, and wanting to turn them into little more than serfs once again.
In the Baltics, the two sides dig in, and begin to fortify their positions, neither of them willing to take any major operations against the other. This was, however, only limited to the Baltics. In Byelorussia, the Russian Army began a limited offensive against the German lines, only to find out that the German Empire was amassing a much larger offensive into Russia. While the Russians were going to attack in the spring, in an attack that was supposed to be coordinated with a French offensive, the Germans attacked in the late Winter, catching the Russians by surprise. While they were able to put up a good defense, they were ready for a limited offense. The Russian High Command, knowing it was a risky strategy, ordered a risky move, a Fighting Retreat. Other than having just a retreat that would put Germany closer to their goal, the Russians decided to make them pay for every inch of ground. However, this meant that the Russians would pay a price too, and it was indeed high.

News of a rogue element of German Soldiers from Bavaria pour in from two regiments, one from Saxony and one from Austria. Both make it quite clear that these soldiers went rouge, killed their officer, and killed the officers of their regiments. It was also known that these soldiers had been sending out false information to the German High Command. Once this was known to the General in charge, he ordered that Bavarian Regiment executed for treason against the German Empire. It would seem that all other attempts at Bohemian Resistance were dying out, as they did not try anything more that year. News of the Bohemian Army pulling together also never materialized. It would seem that the Bohemian Resistance, once trumped up for being so great, was dead. The German High Command, confident there was no more resistance in this area, deemed it under control and no need for concern to the War Effort.

As the Hungarians fought in the streets of Budapest, the strength and the will to fight on petered out. Even as the Chairman of the Hungarian Communist Party ordered to fight on, General Mihály Károlyi of the White Army rode with his Cavalry, killing and capturing the Hungarian Government. He proclaimed the National Republic of Hungary, and agreed to a ceasefire with the Governments of Germany and Romania. A formal Treaty of Peace was drafted, and while the German Empire attempted to insert language into the Treaty that would force Hungary to effectively become a puppet of the German Empire, General Károlyi, noticing the Germans had already withdrawn their forces, showed a display of arms to the Germans, forcing them to remove that, and make Hungary a truly independent nation. He was also able to make sure Hungary was able to maintain control of several heavily Hungarian-filled areas of Transylvania. As a condition of the treaty, the Hungarians were forced to concede Slovakia, which entered the World Stage as the Kingdom of Slovakia.

Poland attempts to raise more citizens into their Army, but only the people in Polish Galicia respond, rising up to help Poland fight her enemies, the first and most important of which, was West Ukraine.

The Army of the Polish Republic meets in Cracow, and the leadership decides it prudent to start a new doctrine, one of fast, efficient, strikes at the enemy that leaves minimal casualties, harass them, and should win them the battle.

Germany’s Iron Hand over Congress Poland prevents any more ideals of Polish Nationalism from breaking out, squashing attempts by the Polish Republic to spurn them on.
Cities under German Occupation in Galicia and Southern Congress Poland, however, explode in a fury of Polish Nationalism, and deep hatred for the Germans was fostered. All across the areas of Free Poland, the battle cry was to “Liberate our Brothers!”
The Polish Republic, which at this point was little more than a rebellion in Germany, but a full-fledged country in the parts of the former Danubian Federation. This entity surged into Western Ukraine, quickly overwhelming the few borders garrisons that maintained the front. The Polish Army, however, took massive casualties due to one of Western Ukraine’s prodigal sons, a man named George. He was seen, personally manning a machine gun, killing Polish Cavalry by the dozen, and personally holding off a Polish battalion with nothing more than string and a bayonet for two hours. George eventually was forced to retreat, leaving vast swaths of territory to the Polish.

The West Ukrainian Army is supplemented in 1918 by a large order of weapons purchased from Germany. The weapons included several rifles and machine guns that had seen use in the Three Emperor’s War. Though outdated these weapons would serve the Ukrainian cause well.

Efforts to rally the people of the West Ukraine by appealing to their sense of national pride are surprisingly successful with most feeling a little more patriotic and willing to help their nation. However, this sentiment did not necessarily translate into a willingness to serve in the army.

In the month of May, the Germans and Romanians, now done with their work in Hungary, mass along the frontline in the Ukraine. The German High Command has one goal in mind, the city of Rostov-on-Don. On May 20th, the German Army crossed the Dnieper River at Dnipropetrovsk, where they encountered little resistance from the Russians there. The Russians were, once again as in the North, massing for an attack aimed at getting the Germans out of the Ukraine. Elements of the Romanian Army was able to spearhead an assault through the Russian lines, leaving the Germans to move around North, and link up with the spearhead, cutting of a large element of the Russian Army, which was forced to surrender to the Germans, leaving a vast swath of area lack of an Army. Guerillas, however, armed with weapons from Russia were a slightly problem, until the German Army was able to sweep through the area, and ensure it was safe. A wide campaign of liberation and freedom was proclaimed by the invading German Army, and many began, once again, to feel the joy of a decade ago of freedom. With these prisoners being transferred West, and the partisans not much of a problem, the Central Powers turned their attention south to the Mouth of the Don.

This did not mean, however, that the Russians no longer had an Army to fight with. They were able to put up a fierce resistance against the oncoming German Army. While the Germans attempted to gain access to Crimea, and with it the Russian Black Sea Fleet, they were denied by a heavily-guarded Russian Fortress. The Central Powers, deeming it able to be watched by the Romanians, moved on towards their goal. The Russians had a garrison in the city of Rostov-on-Don, and used it to their full ability to repel the German invaders to the best of their ability. While the city did not fall to the Germans, north of the River the German Army was able to establish positions along the Don River, and began to float boats down the river filled with explosives and a few men, in an attempt to put a hole in the Russian defenses. However, the stubborn city did not give in and fighting continued on until the next year.

In conjunction with this, a propaganda campaign of Liberation was spread by the Germans, saying that they were liberating the Ukraine, not occupying it. While a huge rallying call for the people to rise up and fight their Russian Overlords went out, the people decided instead to remain neutral in the conflict entirely, not supporting the Germans and not supporting the Russians.

A nationalistic fervor is built up amongst the entire nation of Serbia, and a unifying force was established. The invasion of Croatia by the Italians, who had just recently departed, was used as a propaganda tool, with everyone rallying together and clamouring for a new, united nation of South Slavs to show the world that they would not be pushed around. The population has started to speak, and in a low rumble, they all ask for War against the Italian Kingdom, for the violation of Croatia. The Turkish Government attempts to find money for the construction of armaments factories in Istanbul, but all the money earmarked for this project was instead used on the Bosphorous Strait project.
The Government of Turkey invests in an Industrial Engineering college, with the intention of creating an oil-driving engine that could be used in moving some large object. Plans to use it on an aircraft or a land vehicle were the only thing debated on this project. It was finally decided that Turkey needed a better presence in the air, and an aircraft engine was designed. The Greek Navy sends a large portion of the Greek Navy out to attempt to seek out and destroy the German U-Boats in the Mediterranean. However, the experienced German Submarine Captains had no match when faced with the Greek Captains. The Admiral of the Greek Fleet ordered the ships back to port after taking devastating losses.

The Bulgarians reinforced the island with soldiers removed from the Ukrainian Front, and were able to hold out against the onslaught of the Greeks. The Bulgarian success was attributed to the fact they had begun to dig in heavily, and the Greeks had little firepower to break through their lines, even with a massive artillery barrage, most of it fell short of the Bulgarian lines. The Greek High Command, after failing to capture the island of Thasos, ordered a full-scale offensive into Bulgaria, with the intention of reaching the Maritsa River. The Bulgarians were dug deep into the ground, and while the artillery fire did shake up their lines, they had a defense in depth setup, and while they lost some ground to the Greeks, they had even more powerful fortifications behind the front lines, which they retreated to.

The Russian Navy moved to blockade the coast of Bulgaria and Romania, and was able to open supply lines between Russia and other powers once again. The amount of supplies, and the inability of the German Submarines to take down all of this shipping, removed the effective blockade that was placed on the Russian Empire.

In an effort to foster better Anglo-Armenian Relations, the British Government offers a loan to the Government of Armenia. However, something went wrong in the translation, and the official treaty signed between the two nations said that Armenia did not have to pay back a penny of the money the British gave them. People of Central America! As it stands, we have traitors in our midst! They say that then can save this country, but let me tell you, they are nothing more than yankee lackies who wish to have us kissing the boot that is American Imperialism! They will not save our country but rather drive it into the ground and balkanize it! These traitors will be dealt with as traitors are to be dealt with.
