MEXICO
Will fire between January 1st and 7th
“The Mexican Constitution of 1917 had various clauses in it restricting the influence of the Roman-Catholic Church. This angered the catholic citizens in Mexico, and by the time the president of the time, Venustiano Carranza was overthrown by his once-ally Álvaro Obregón in 1919 there was an uneasy truce between the government and church. Obregón applied the anti-catholic legislation only in areas where catholic sentiment was weakest, thus maintaining the truce. However, his successor, Plutarco Elias Calles, enforced them strictly throughout the country and added new anti-catholic legislation as well. In June 1926 he signed the “Law for Reforming the Penal Code”, more widely known as the Calles Law, providing specific penalties for priests who violated the constitution – For example, a 500 peso fine for wearing priestly attire. A priest criticizing the government could be imprisoned for 5 years. At first the religious citizens protested peacefully, but it quickly spiralled out of control and escalated into armed resistance to the government. The official rebellion began on January 1st, 1927, when René Capistran Garza, leader of the Mexican Association of Catholic Youth, sent a manifesto to all of Mexico announcing the rebellion of the Cristeros, named after Christ himself, and the Cristeros began seizing villages around Guadalajara.”

July – The Appointment of El Catorce
CRISTERO REBELS
Will fire between July 1st and July 30th
“Public sentiment turned against the Cristeros following an incident on April 19th when during a raid on a train carrying supplies and money, Father José Vega had the train cars doused in gasoline and set on fire, killing 51 people. By the summer of 1927 the rebellion was almost entirely quelled, and Garza resigned as head of the rebellion in July after a failed attempt to raise funds in the USA, and Victoriano Ramirez became the head of the rebellion. Ramirez was better known as El Catorce, or “The Fourteen” because legend had it when he broke out of jail he killed all fourteen members of the posse sent after him and then sent a message to the mayor of the town (His uncle) to send more troops next time. He was illiterate but a born guerrilla leader. He revitalized the rebellion and arranged the hire of a mercenary general named Enrique Gorostieta who, despite his vast lack of piety, trained the troops well, producing disciplined units and officers. Following this the Cristeros gradually began to gain the upper hand.”

The Cristeros’ fanatical loyalty to their cause was unbeatable, and gradually they pushed the government forces back. AUSTRIA
Will trigger between July 7th and 21st
“Two paramilitary forces had been created in Austria in the 1920s: The Heimwehr, serving the Church and a group of wealthy industrialists, and the Schutzbund, serving the Socialist party. Following a clash on January 30th that resulted in two deaths, a general strike was called with the intent to bring down the government headed by Chancellor Ignaz Seipel. Massive protests in Vienna resulted in a fire at the Justizpalast. The police attempted to suppress the protestors with force, which resulted in the deaths of 85 protestors and 4 policemen.”

August 1st – The Nanchang Uprising
KUOMINTANG
Will trigger between July 25th and August 10th
“On August 1st, 1927, Kuomintang troops in Nanchang defected following the dissolution of the Communist-Kuomintang alliance, and attempted to seize control of the city. They escaped a siege by Kuomintang forces on August 5th and withdrew to the Jinggang Mountains in western Jiangxi, a communist bastion. August 1st is widely regarded as the day of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army.”
Option A “We must crush this with force!”
I can’t decide what to put here. By rights it should be the liberation of Communist China, who would be at war with the Kuomintang, but they would be crushed by the Kuomintang long before 1934, when the Long March began. I also can’t decide whether to represent the Long March by event or by actually just trying to work out AI that would have the CCP make their way to Shaanxi. When the Long March began 150,000 Communist soldiers broke through 400,000 Koumintang soldiers. Those kinds of numbers would have the CCP crushed in the seven-year prelude to the Long March unless we tell the Kuomintang AI not to attack them, which I suppose we could do. Another solution would be to represent the Nanchang Uprising and any other major battles as partisan uprisings, and then have a Long March event that establishes the communists in the north.
November 12th – Expel Trotsky?
USSR
Will fire between November 12th and November 21st
“In 1927 Stalin started using the Soviet secret police to infiltrate the United Opposition led by Leon Trotsky, and used the information gathered by this to have members of the Untied Opposition expelled or arrested. In October 1927, Trotsky and Grigory Zinoviev were expelled from the Central Committee. When the United Opposition tried to organize demonstrations commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Bolshevik seizure of power in November 1927, the demonstrations were dispersed with force and Trotsky and Zinoviev were expelled from the Communist Party. Their leading supporters were expelled a short time later, and in January 1928 Trotsky was exiled to Alma Ata in modern-day Kazakhstan, leaving no serious opposition to Stalin’s government.”

December 14th – Iraqi Independence
UK
Will trigger between December 7th and 21st
“Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in 1918, the Empire’s middle-eastern lands were carved up between the United Kingdom and France. The United Kingdom gained control over Iraq, which was a League of Nations mandate since 1920. On December 14th, 1927, Iraq gained independence in name if not in fact, as the nation remained basically a puppet of the British government, and British troops remained in Iraq, largely to guard the large Kirkuk oil fields and the British pipeline that ran through Iraq and supplied the Royal Navy.”

And finally, an idea: I think we should include an alternate history event chain wherein Trotsky can somehow become head of the USSR and begin a series of wars/reforms that make the game more exciting, especially if playing the USSR. The problem is, where would we put it? If we put it early in the game, it can be Trostsky and Zinoviev bumping off Stalin and seizing control of the USSR, and if we put it after Trotsky's exile, it can be a coup deposing Stalin and then a formal request for Trotsky to come back and become leader of the USSR. Also, what events could stem from that?
Any idea are great. The problem with this mod is there might not be all too much action in it because of the lack of serious wars in that time period, so I think any alternate history ones we can add are great. For example, I just had an idea of maybe a Central American League teaming up on the Cristeros if they do succeed in their war, while they're still weak the small Central American states and Mexico could ally to defeat them, etcetera. So anybody with ideas like this, I can make events for it.
