What, this again? Yes. As you may remember I had an AAR in which I tried to re-build Armenian kingdom of Tigran II in 867. It, sadly, died, because of misplaced save. But since it attracted quite a following and was very interesting to play and write, I've decided to restart it.
Now, I didn't want to start the same game over, so this time I'll begin in a different time and a different place. Our first hero will be no other, but Vahram Varjnuni.
Who? Vahram Varjnuni, also known by his Greek name Philaretos Brachamios, was a Byzantine general, of Armenian heritage, who in an aftermath of Manzikert, in 1071/72 carved out a little realm for himself, centered around Antioch. Historically, it didn't survive for long, being conquered by Sultan Suleiman of Rum by 1087. Trying to prevent that fate Vahram resorted to every trick in the book, even accepting Islam, yet was forced to retire and died forgotten in a monastery. His sons held fortress of Germanikeia under Seljuks and handed it to Crusaders in 1098, thus ending short story of house Varjnuni. We would try to prevent that.
Is that even possible? I have no idea. I did play a little forward and still alive. We'll see. After all, losing is fun, right?
Why 1072? I'm bored of 867, the situation in the Middle East in 1072 is far more dynamic and hectic, with ERE and Fatimids failing, Seljuk control is not yet solidified, formation of Rum and First Crusade just around the corner.
What mods are you gonna use? Why, HIP with all its modules on, of course. Why would I subject you to vanilla Levant? It's also my first game with HIP's brand new EMF submod, which should extend mechanics and flavor, so perhaps I'll get to showcase some new features.
Won't it die after a week, like a previous one? I'll try to prevent that. Cloud saving and back-up are my new best friends.
What's your goal? The same, restore Great Armenia of Antiquity, from Kura to Jordan, from Mediterranean to Caspian.
