While I understand the need to change this to not give ranged units a rank, I feel like this trait no longer holds up to its name, art, and description:

Nothing about this seems Hunter-y to me; it feels more like scrappy gatherers. The artwork only connects to the extra ranged unit, whereas the bulk of this trait are the other effects.

This was like my go-to trait if I wanted to do an archer heavy build. I suppose that is why it got changed since it was almost always worth taking? Now it feels not only kind of generic, but doesn't even match the description and artwork. I am disappointed to see a favorite trait altered so drastically.

Yeah, the “excelling in ranged combat” description and having a bow and arrow as an icon seem weird when it no longer affects ranged units.

Clearing nodes is exploiting new Lands. As expert hunters, they know their way around to a) find all the valuable spots and b) make the most of their prey.
Prey had valuable materials you can sell or use as currency? More gold. Meat? Food. Materials usable for construction or Tools? Draft and construction. Magic infused parts? Mana or research.

The regeneration also can easily be seen as they have it easier to provide their own supplies, giving additional regeneration.

So i think it still fits.

If I read this correctly, it now gives ALL units of this race +5 regen on teh strategic map. IMHO, that's a significant bonus when moving around, clearing stuff. Is also feels to be on the theme of people managing independently in the wilds, which feels right to me.

It's baked in Horn of Plenty on empire level, it's not bad but more like - ehh. The first bonus of +75% stuff from infestations is the primary thing as it is the most important.

Also I'm not sure what else should they get if not new (+5 regen) or old (ranks) bonus, if not this then what will be appropriate?

Maybe bonus dmg or accuracy. But that honestly feels like too much. Regen sounds nice.

Imo touching damage is spooky 'cause it could get out of hand with enchantment stacking, accuracy could be interesting tho.

Btw did devs said anything about why on certain society traits ranks were removed but not on others?

I’ve been wondering if a +1 to range would be good. (The resources gained from clearing places can be reduced for balance if necessary.)

On another note, since Fabled Hunters is no longer specifically tied to archers, perhaps it can be made available to Mystic culture now? (They can get an extra Battle Mage instead of an archer.)

There has to be something that buffs archers. There should be culture traits that have direct impact on different battle roles.

Doesnt it still give an archer unit?

I really don't like this change because they changed an archery focused trait to not be archery at all. This makes 0 sense. The picture and description which is wrong has nothing to do with archery now.

While I can agree the trait was a bit too much I think they should have:
A) Created a new ranged society trait, with either +1 rank + something else.
Or Some boost to archery like +1 range(like longbowmen although there are other ways to get this)
or an increase in accuracy + something else.
Or how about we take something from planetfall and maybe an extra attack ability to(stagger enemies and knock them out of defense mode, or slow movement.)? + something else.
One of my issues with this game is unlike planetfall where units had many abilities your early units are kind of boring.
B) Left fabled hunters the way it is, but change the new name/description/icon.

No, that would be overpowered when combined with seeker arrows. +1 damage would be a better option. Though I don't have a problem with how it is currently.
*shrug* I was just spitballing anyway.

Archers should still get SOMETHING aside from an extra starting unit, though. Either that, or the description and image should be updated.

Historical hunting had as much to do with spears and snares as much as any ranged weapons, so there's no reason for "fabled hunters" to be archer-focused.

I agree that the trait should still get a new icon to avoid the implication, though.

I love new Fabled Hunters.

If people miss archery trait, then I think it would be better to leave Fabled Hunters as in and add another trait like "Trained marksmen" that focuses solely on archers and ranged units.

Noone cares about balance and something "too op". Its ONE trait, so what? In PF i was able to max out range of snipers to 14 and my fat Bertas were able to fling rockets over 20 range. And yes, it was op as megaF and it was FUN. So Fk balance, killer of fun.
