Hey folks,

Ive been thinking how to make some fun and mildly good storm chaser build.

I tried a little bit and played as machine intelligence with lubrication basins and maintenance protocols.

For species traits I went for recylced, mass produced, bulky and nannybots.
I aimed for maximum pop growth and benefits to my maintenance drones.

the first tradition to pick was versatile because of the unity bonus for maintencance drones, then logistics for more trade and statecraft to get my council lvl up fast, because the storm devastation reduction of the science node.

I picked nanotech around year 20 and finished it before 30.

The flat unity from the Stormfall situation helped a lot in ascending fast.

My questions now, I didnt played since the last beta-update, with the increased upkeep of maintenance drones. Is this way of playing still viable? Are hives better or bios? how would you build them? which ascension would be the best? How to get early 100% storm devastion reduction?

Personally, I went HyperStormDuelist, AKA Galactic Curators/Storm Devotion start, reform into Warrior Culture at 3rd civic. Necro portrait, Shelled/Charismatic/Brittle, Democratic Authority, F. Egal./Milit., Cyber Ascention for High Maintenance trait (you'll have more than enough amenities anyway) and, of course, Embellished Augments.

Typical UA/Mercantile start until you transition out of Civilian economy, though you will be in dire need of CG. Much later, have your biggest world be a Resort, with all Museums on it and as much entertainers as you can cram in there.

How to get early 100% storm devastion reduction?
I assume just turning off storm devastation in game settings is not an option? Personally I don't worry too much about devastation...

Nah, I want to keep those settings more or less "standard".

if you have memorialist someone pointed out you can put your resort world on a relic world, and then restore the ecu and keep it as a resort. i did this after they mentioned it, it was fun.

Nah, devastation isn't that bad. All you need is to have a shield generator tbh. If you don't want to ALWAYS have a shield generator on every colony, you can swap it for one of your flex buildings when a storm rolls in (like your commercial building, or holotheater, or whatever). If you rush all the storm techs, you can also get the hunker down decision and then later the edict, which also reduces the impact of storms.

It would be nice to get 100% reduction to storm devastation mostly for comfort reasons and ease of play, performance wise it wouldnt be that bad to stop the storms regularly for a short amount of time.

Should try that! So Memorialists -> Warrior Culture.

I don't mind it as much either, I just wanted to inform them that turning it off is an option.

I use storm chasers with beastmasters and hyperspace specialty. The storm rider trait gives 10% sublight speed per commander on your council, and both of those net you a commander position while also further boosting sublight speed. For extra points you can stack multiple afterburners on faunaships to go even more ludicrously fast.

I used a full leader build with a full Commander council and stacked sublight speed so high my ships could outrun strikecraft, missiles and torpedoes via Skirmisher and Gale Speed on top of the inherent Storm Chaser Commander buffs.

This was probably not optimal, precisely, but battleships with over 1K speed was really stupid and funny and it did work.
