Hello, PDX Forums.
I have a couple concerns, and a suggested change for the recently added quay walls in Cities Skylines 2.
My first concern with the quay walls is that they cut into the soil beneath them. I as well as some other players were expecting the new dedicated quay wall types to perform identical to the vanilla "fill option" quay walls that phase through the soil beneath them, rather than cutting into and forcing the topography. I personally feel as if the new quay walls are incredibly limited in their use, and can only be used on maps with a certain depth of water, that may or may not be realistic to the build you're trying to achieve. I personally feel as if there is not a clear reason as to why the new quay walls could not perform identical to the original ones.
Changing the new quay walls to cut & fill identically to the originals would allow the new quays the same range of functionality in both shallow AND deep water, as well as introducing a proper on-land retaining wall/quay network, without requiring any new assets being added to the game. This change would also allow the new quays to be utilized as breakwater walls at any depth you desire.
As the new quay walls currently function:
-You cannot use them on land without having serious elevation differences that often force your hand into choosing the original quay walls over the new, dedicated options. The holes they make are incredibly hard to detail around, account for/hide, regardless of being in land or on water. The new quays force you to make the topography a shape/scale that you may not desire, this is anti-gameplay and reduces their functionality compared to the existing options.
-the old quay walls contain fences that are not present on the new quay walls, a desirable option for detailing. Would be preferable if they functioned the same as the original quays and could be used interchangeably.
Attached below is an example of the new dedicated quay walls cutting a hole into the soil on a decently sized hill, and an example of it ruining the natural shoreline shape in shallow water. The quay wall behind it, behaving properly, is the original/old quay wall option. Also included is a realworld example of a shallow water quay wall that doesn't cut into the soil beneath it.
I hope my message reaches the ears of PDX Devs, any help or positive changes to the new quay networks would be greatly appreciated. I personally am itching to use them as a breakwater wall in my rivers confluence.
