    Anniversary Patch 2.0.4 Augustus

I .. did not see this one coming. Thank you!

Stellaris Dev Diary #296 - Announcing Galactic Paragons

I'm curious if this is a first approach at more internal politics (council seems to suggest this may be the case), otherwise... eagerly waiting for the upcoming dev diaries for more information.

Should FE lose the free pass?

Well, the reason might quite simply be that cloaking is DLC-only, while FEs are base game content. So they would need to then have two separate sets of rules..? I do agree that it would be nice to potentially be able to see all those cloaked recon ships that the FE awakening event speaks of...

Stellaris Dev Diary #289 - Hide and Seek

Hmmm... hold up, normally starbase sensor detection range doesn't go inside nebulae, not outside their own system. Does this mean that living in a nebula will require a detection setup on literally every last starbase in the nebula? That's... a nerf to Ocean Paradise  For a second I...

Stellaris Dev Diary #286 - Fear and Archaeotechs in First Contact

.... Aaaand now I can't play Stellaris again until the new update. :( Really curious what Cloaking Strength means and what it will do, seeing how it's not only civilian ships that seem to be able to obtain it as evidenced by the cloaked patrol fleet. Is cosplaying Romulans finally on the menu?

Stellaris Dev Diary #283 - The Vision of First Contact

A slider dedicated to one singular pre-scripted empire seems a bit overkill, but given that there are now several origins that come with essentially pre-scripted 'parent' empires, perhaps a checkbox or slider to determine the amount of empire spawns that come with such baggage attached? This...

What does "Orbital Shield Generator" actually do?

Because gameplay reasons. Planet cannot be bombarded without the ring first being out of commission. If the ring is out of commission, it does not project a shield over the planet. Thus putting the tooltip and effect there would achieve absolutely nothing in a gameplay sense.

    Your Go-to Origin (and why)

Most-played? Probably Prosperous Unification followed by Remnants and Lost Colony. I've tried the other ones, and they're fine - if I'm doing some particular cheese, I'll pick something else. But whenever I'm exploring a new patch or set of mods, those are my fallbacks, without fail. Ocean...

Self-sufficient pops via trade. A slightly bananas numbercrunch

Hmm, I don't see why corporate authority is needed, that empire size malus is going to hit hard. Instead, why not do most of the same things, but with a regular empire running Environmentalist - for a whopping -20% CG upkeep discount right there? Surely that beats having Free Traders adding a...

has anyone accidentally changed their ethics and successfully gotten back?

Hmm, are your pops sufficiently Weak to actually want to be pacifists? Pacifism is that one ethic that is actually really hard to get pop attraction to, I find, so every last bit counts.

Stellaris Dev Diary #260 - Summer Culture

A valid point, and I'd not want a culture worker to have a wide spread of bonuses. Wait, I know! Let's have only the first three tradition picks affect the culture worker! That'll suddenly make the order of picks matter just a tiny bit more, while also cutting down on the sheer amount of...

Stellaris Dev Diary #260 - Summer Culture

On the one hand, I'm thinking that culture workers don't really have a place without a mechanically-defined culture (unless traditions are it, in which case culture workers should be tied in with them). On the other, I'm thinking that linking them with state ethics is the wrong idea in terms of...

In a multiplayer setting, does the favor system break the Galactic Community?

Disclaimer: I have not myself witnessed this since I do not play stellaris MP, and the AI does not really do this (thankfully!). With that said: if this is indeed what can happen, then yes, 500 influence per participating empire (B, C, D in the example) would have to be spent. This cost depends...

In a multiplayer setting, does the favor system break the Galactic Community?

Multiple empires being able to get more than 100% total vote weight from an opposing voter via favors is exactly your complaint, is it not? Empire A votes against, has 10k weight. Empires B, C, D vote in favor, have 3k between them. Another 5 empires have 1k vote weight each, and vote against...

i think ocean paradise is gonna be my new favourite origin

Out of curiosity @blahmaster6k - since I have not played on Grand Admiral in a long time - would an alloy rush off of Unyielding starbases fielding hydroponics that in turn fuel Catalytic Processing jobs work, as a strategy? It does not - strictly speaking - rely on having any planets (beyond...

i think ocean paradise is gonna be my new favourite origin

Just a minor correction - as of the most recent patch, it's really just the Empire Capital that cannot use a designation to shift jobs between CG and Alloys. Making your capital an Ecumenopolis solves that problem, though - and the Ocean Paradise homeworld, if minmaxed, can get up to 40...

    World Shaper yay or nay?

Mechanically not worth it if you have access to Ecumenopolis. Gaia worlds have the +10% bio pop happiness going for them, but lose out by 10% on resource production (for refineries and specialists), lose out on pop growth (ecu comes with +50%), and lose out on district sprawl efficiency. So if...

    So...Federation Holdings?

At the most boring level, nothing by itself. More interestingly, a central point of government, providing a wargoal during times of war for the opposing parties (would impose a significant willingness to sign peace if taken), and a singular central point of administration (and thus efficiency)...

    So...Federation Holdings?

Hm - how about this: before Federation Holdings can be used, the federation needs to vote on a Federation Capital world. Once such a world has been selected, every member can build a certain number of holdings there - the exact nature of what is available would depend on the federation type...
