Hey City Builders!

I'm coming to you today with a message from our developers at Colossal Order regarding the game crash issues some of you have been experiencing recently. Hopefully you'll find those tips useful!

-----------------------------------------------------------

Hi!

We have seen your reports! However, despite our efforts, we have not been able to reproduce the crashes on our end. It also seems there are several possible reasons behind the issues, so there might not be a single, one-size-fits-all solution. As such, we have put together this collection of potential fixes and workarounds, and hope these work for you:
  • Memory-related suggestions:
    • Reduce the number of custom assets
    • Lower the graphics quality from the Options menu:
      • Shadow Quality
      • Shadows Distance
      • Texture Quality
      • Anisotropic Filtering
      • Level of Detail
      • Anti-aliasing
    • Reduce the number of active/installed DLCs.
    • Close other programs, web browsers, etc. while playing.
  • The crash might be related to the temperate theme, so try if other themes work. If they do, first load a map with a theme that is not temperate and only then load the temperate map.
  • Adding -force-d3d9 to the game launch options seems to fix it for some people:
    • Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
    • Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
    • Enter the launch options you wish to apply: -force-d3d9
    • Be sure to separate each code with a space if you have other launch options in
    • use.
    • Click OK.
    • Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.
  • Check that you don’t have Citrix workspace in use. Or, if you need it, check out the workaround tips here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...x-workspace-crashing-cities-skylines.1158220/
  • Check out the Mod Compatibility thread to make sure your mods are up to date: https://steamcommunity.com/app/255710/discussions/0/1870623125774285868/
  • Check that your GPU drivers are up to date.
  • Check that your Antivirus program is not blocking the game.
  • Overlays might cause crashes (for example Discord, GeForce Experience)
  • Verify your Steam files to make sure they are not corrupted:
    • From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
    • Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files... button.
    • Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
If neither disabling mods and custom assets nor any of the above tips help, post a thread according to these instructions: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...-report-technical-issues-and-get-help.920608/

Please also include your player log (Mac, Linux) or output log (Windows), as these have info that will help us figure out what might be causing the crash.

Lastly, if the tips above helped resolve your issue, please don’t hesitate to share them with others!
