I've recently come across a situation where I had an illegitimate bastard of my own dynasty whom I have been grooming to be my heir to the Holy Roman Empire. He was a genius, diligent and ambitious. After some careful wars I gave him the title of the Kingdom of Lotharingia. But I was surprised that he was still disqualified from nomination as hier to the Holy Roman Empire (which was an elective monarchy).
Granted, I understand that an illegitimate bastard is disqualified from succession. But shouldn't the fact that he is a landed lord (A king, no less!) in the Holy Roman empire make him a potential candidate for succession in an elective monarchy? I was very surprised to find that despite the fact that he held a title for a de jure kingdom among the Holy Roman Empire that he still was not a potential candidate among the elective monarchy. I feel that him holding a title as a de jure king in my empire should trump the fact that he is an illegitimate bastard.
