Well things do look a bit grim, but Vive Le France

that is a butcher... just give up Alsace and Lorena and rebuilt your forces

Fascinating, thank you for posting when things aren't going so well as well as when they are, it makes very interesting reading.

Best of luck

Great job so far! Though I am skeptical that you'll be able to pull it off - it really seems that the German AI only attacks when victory is assured - and with the British alliance...

One minor thing - the 3rd image from the bottom has Napoleon 3 leading the British troops. Surely that's a mistake?
Didn't you ever do history? Napoleon is really a British emporer, gosh thier is no such thing as "France" it's all Britain like it always was ;)

some bad minds think that after Waterloo, France is a very undercover british puppet .p

Part 10: The Franco Prussian War part 2

The war continues throughout July with the British continuing to attempt to surround Paris. The Germans continue to give our forces a hard time with our forces usually struggling against them when fighting against equal numbers. Despite this they continue to fight bravely for France and Napoleon III, in the battle of Blois the Germans are defeated on the 14th of July after 3 days of fighting. To the north we suffer another defeat this time at the hands of the British in the 2nd battle of Amiens. Reinforcements failed to arrive soon enough to aid in the battle and as a result 63,000 troops ended up dead or captured. Things are not looking good for Napoleon or France, Napoleon knows he needs to prevent the Germans from advancing further into southern and central but it will be a long struggle one that could cost thousands of lives. Meanwhile Bismarck seems keen for a quick peace but so far Napoleon considers the terms they have offered as unacceptable.

While battles rage on to the north, east and west of Paris things are beginning to look far more promising in central France where Fresh recruits are helping us slowly push back the German armies there. On the 6th of August the Germans lose 2 minor battles in Becsacon and Dijion. During both battles the smaller German armies suffered more casualties than our own forces. On the 15th the battle of Chartres to the west of Paris come to an end in a French victory temporarily delaying another British assault on Paris.

Further south we continue to suffer large casualties against the German forces. On the 21st of August we defeat the German forces in the battle of Chateaurox but as a result we suffer almost twice the casualties. Meanwhile minor skirmishes continue across the country with the local population taking up arms against the Germans and disrupt their supply lines. In Orleans the locals took to the field to fight a small British army before our army arrived to support them and kick them out of Orleans.

On the 1st of September we defeat the British in the battle of Alecon. During the battle we lose 9,000 men compared to British losses of 11,000 men. While our forces continue to struggle against the Germans our navy continues to struggle against the British when our fleet is intercepted in the Mediterranean transporting troops to the mainland from Algeria.

To the south of Paris we repel a German attempt to gain control of Melun so that they can attack Paris from multiple sides. During the battle we lose 9,500 men. Nearly a month goes by without any significant battles or changes on the battle front until the battle of Bourges on the 21st of October. During the battle we manage to destroy most of Baden’s army, but sadly we lose 7,000 troops more than our opponents during the battle. As November begins Napoleon orders an offensive in central France and after several small battles against isolated German armies we manage to push them as far back as Chaumont. We also win the battle of Laval on the 25th of November against an isolated British army.

The war continues into 1869 battle continue to rage of as our troops fight for the survival of France. On the 17th of January we win a large victory in the battle of Auxerre. During the battle we suffer more casualties but we manage to defeat a large amount of the German army. Most of the German troops in eastern France seem to have vanished, we assume they have gone back to Germany to rest and resupply. On the 1st of February the British are defeated in a minor battle at Rouen.

We achieve minor victories in the battles of loan and chalons in February before suffering defeat at the hands of the Germans in the battle of Nancy. In early march we receive news that German troops have invaded Sardinia piedmont over running most of the north. A few days later our spies discover that additional troops are on their way to Franche comte.

While we have been fighting in Europe the army of Algeria had also been fighting the Algerians and Moroccans in northern Africa. On the 24th of April Algeria is annexed into our empire, but the Moroccans refuse to surrender so the war continues.

Throughout May we suffer several defeats against fresh German troops in the battles of Nancy, sedan and Metz, but once again Napoleon manages to repel a German assault on Paris. After yet another assault on Paris failed the Germans offered us a more lenient peace offer. In the peace offer the newly formed German nation would be allowed to annex Alsace Lorraine, the British blockade would end, Napoleon would be allowed to keep the throne of France. Napoleon was hesitant about accepting the peace but he knew he had no other choice, this was the best position France had been in the entire war but the German troops had begun to push our troops back yet again into central France. On the 7th of June Napoleon agrees to the treaty of Frankfurt knowing the hostility he would now get from the French public thus ending the war.

Author's note: I told you everything was going according to plan :p

Good that you managed to hold on to almost all your territory, not a disgraceful defeat by any means and definitely an entertaining read.

At the risk of missing something really obvious, how come there are two flags for Germany - one is the Reichs flag and the other seems to be the Black Red Gold banner?

are you talking about the north german federation flag? or are you talking in general? the black red gold in the modern flag for some reason german get's it when they eneact a ceratain amount of reforms. i prefer the reich flag.

by the way i told you everything was going according to plan :p

Napoléon III surviving a defeat is a welcome turn of event! His son will take revenge!

Are you modding the Emperor staying on or hoping he stays?

The reason I was asking was the Battle of Bourges. I would have understood if they had the Black Red Gold banner from then on, but they didn't. It was only in that battle and then it reverted back to the Reichs flag? Surely not a temporary revolution during war time?

No, the flag of Baden is a Vertical Bi-colour with Red and Yellow, it was layered over the North German Flag, therefore looked like the Bundes Flag.
